The Music team of Bungie was always at peak, ever since Halo. It's the 1 thing that never fails.

In my opinion, the single best piece of video game music ever created. Walking over that ridge and seeing the burning city with those deep thumping drums was absolutely epic and heartbreaking at the same time.

What's really great about it is it's the entire campaign in one song; loss and despair, resolve, getting checked on our progress, big confrontation, triumph, rebuilding and returning, and a long note out for what's to come.

The cat singing in the background is what gave me chills 😂

This track plays during the "Adieu" mission from the Vaulted Red War campaign. The part where it really kicks up is when you turn a corner and see the Last City, the place that was your home for the past 4-5 years under seige and burning. It was perhaps one of the best set pieces in a game ive seen personally.

The horns at 4:36 are the main Destiny 2 theme. :) They use that leitmotif in almost every major piece, and especially during the most epic fight scenes. It's basically the protagonist's theme.

Michael Salvatori has been with Bungie for a LONG time while working with Marty O Donnell on the Halo and Destiny 1 soundtracks. He always knocks it out of the park. You should listen to 'Rise of Iron' from Destiny 1 by Michael Salvatori!

It's crazy how many years it's been since I've played the red war, but I can remember every single footstep my guardian took as this song was playing. This song literally sums up the campaign in like 7 minutes. The loss, the despair, the hope the triumphs. Destiny's score has never ever ever missed.

I am a MASSIVE Destiny fan. So much so that I have Destiny tattoos and custom hoodies. I can't express how much it excites my soul that someone out there appreciates the music as much as I do. I have been playing Destiny since it first began, the music, 99% of the time, is outstanding, I am now 66 and still playing. The music captures the moment and the theme runs throughout.

If theres anything Bungie/Destiny is one of the best in the business at its their music, would love to see you react to more of their tracks, some stand out ones are Deep stome Lullaby and Sepix Redux.

Journey and the first mission of destiny 2 has a special place in my heart, I remember how emotional i was seeing the tower gets destroyed and dead guardians around the earth, i will never forget it 💔

One of my favorite pieces is from the Dreaming City. The choir is both haunting and majestic.

God this brings back memories. The song steadily picking up as you crossed the corner to see the city burning in the distance as the music peaks, Bungie doesn't miss with the music.

This music makes you feel all the sadness in the fall of the city after the attack of Dominus Ghaul and that Red Legion. One of the most popular campaigns of the license

When this played in the final mission when we were taking back the city and fighting along side with other players. It was my favorite mission because of this song and how it played out.

Interesting! Your analysis of the intro being that it was like the groups are stumbling over each other, when that was what was occurring in game at the time of being introduced to this track. Our character was stumbling out a collapsed burning city.

The Sanctified Mind Sepix Prime (or redux. or both) The Darkblade and the Lightblade (at the same time to get the full effect) Shell of What Was The First Disciple Cabal Stomp Ready to Roll Temptation Aberrant Path and lastly oneirophobia but honestly all of Destiny's music is worth a listen there are no bad tracks. also another one i would listen to the Music of the Spheres. Always love seeing other great personalities and professionals discovering and experiencing the power of Video Game music. Bungies music team never misses, ever. Definitely worth a listen to if you just want to get lost in emotion and soul.

Journey never fails to make me tear up. Absolutely beautiful song. Its a literal Journey. In game we lost our home, invaded and under siege, we lost our power. No more immortality, any death now would be final. We trudged our way out of the City, up the mountains and as we rounded the ridge we looked out over the horizon to see our home burn. But it was not the only thing burning. Rage and determination to regain our strength and hit back with power twelve fold our enemy's. This song embodies the Journey of getting knocked down but finding it in yourself to get back up and keep going even when all seems lost.

I remember this, walking up that mountain and seeing the traveller in the distance. What a memory of D2 🫡

its interesting you said its like them stumbling over each other, this plays as your character, newly stripped of their powers, injured and alone is stumbling through the wilderness trying to just find anyone alive after the last city has been taken by an alien race, the first big drop you're on the side of a mountain and as the drop hits a warship flies over you towards the city you're fleeing, this music really makes this part one of my all time favourite experiences in destiny, im sad its currently "sunset" (removed from the game for now as the campaign it was in was removed)

You should check out the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon's score. Very pirate-themed and includes all the leitmotifs of the player character

Journey has been with us a long time, and its still one of the best damn tracks in the game.

The start of the Red war will always be something to remember. This soundtrack takes me back almost instantly.

So grateful to have stumbled across this reaction, a lot of people sleep on music in video games because they feel that since it’s a game it just won’t be on a high production, I strongly recommend listening to the god of war 2016 soundtrack by Bear

You gotta check out the high action versions of both 'the first disciple' and 'oneirophobia' Destiny soundtracks are fantastic

These songs hit one way when you're just listening to them, but when you're in these moments playing this game, headphones on fighting for the lives of everyone in the last city. These moments really resound and make the hero moments so pivotal to the player

"Never forget" Halo 3 OST please check it out, or even any song of Halo 3, i also recommend halo 1 or halo 2 main themes but specially "Halo Theme Gungnir Mix" of halo 2 anniversary. I feel Destiny's music has a lot of classic halo (bungie times) influence so maybe you'll like it Thank you so much for taking your time to react to the beautynes of video games music.

This song is about our guardian stumbling over his/her mortality into becoming more and more dedicated to stop the forces that invaded his/her home during a time of great loss and grief lost without his friend and his power. Than he/she rises in its commanding mortal form And the traveller looks on unbeknownst and says. You are my chosen here is my vision for you. Become legend. It is your destiny. beautiful track

By coincidence, the only other game soundtrack that reaches these heights for me is the OST for _Journey_ by Austin Wintory. Destiny's music is simply phenomenal.

Pretty much any Bungie soundtrack is worth a listen, their arrangements are fantastic and they have melodies that reoccur throughout the soundtracks they’re brilliant

This song manages to portray "It's so over" and "We're so fucking back" simultaneously.

You should check out "The Traveler" from the Destiny OST. It was the main "thematical" thesis for the first game's initial release's music language, and it was beautiful. Still invokes a frisson of excitement and wonder in me every time I hear it.

Fun fact, the vocals are actuall in Latin which I think makes it even better

Came by to unfortunately inform that Michael Salvatori, the composer for this masterpiece, was released by Bungie towards the end of 2023 during a mass layoff debacle that still resonates negatively with the Destiny community in the present day.

Unfortunately that's about the main thing bungie is good at still music

A song that doesn't see a lot of love is Towerfall I really enjoy the high intensity of that song and always have.

Imagine how she would be feeling when this was playing in the background as we just lost the city walking through the mountains towards an unknown future without the light.

I heard the music before I played the game, started in crotas end d1 and havn't put it down since. At this point I hear it at work or while im relaxing at home, very well done.

Two things have always been true about Bungie, or at least for Halo and Destiny, idk much about Marathon, great gun play and even better music lol the "Sad City Song" (the beginning) as my friends and I called it back in the day, into the main title score brought back so many feelings of D2 launch.

As a huge destiny 1 player, I remember playing Destiny 2 at the midnight release. I was so excited I was shaking, and I had my closest friend online with me in voice chat doing the same thing. When I got to the section at the intro where you are standing on the mountain watching the Last City burn in the distance and the somber violin is playing, it was my single most emotional gaming moment ever. I cried.

I remember getting out of the Last City after the Cabal took it over and you have to make your way to the farm and this played. I had tears in my eyes the fact you lost your light and have to leave everything behind it hits hard

There's a reason why this track has ~9.45 million listens on Spotify and another ~7.95 on RU-vid. (~17.4 million total) Deep Stone Lullaby is the only other Destiny track with even remotely similar numbers at ~9.61 million on Spotify and ~2.97 on RU-vid. (~12.58 million total)

Yeah, Salvatori only has two approaches to making music: 1: go hard. 2: go HARDER.

Obligatory “if you like Destiny music you’ll LOVE Halo music”. Both game series were made by the same developer. Their games always have incredible music

Bruh, the final mission of Red War, when this song's reprise came back, you better believe I was charging forward with focused, reckless abandon. Red War was my start to Destiny, so I never got attached to the Last City, but dangit I was taking it BACK!

Memories of the Red War *sigh I don't think folks will remember but listen to "The Tangled Shore". Even better is the mash up between "The Tangled Shore and The Tree of Probabilities" one of my favorites (among many)

A lot of people will recommend deepstone lullaby, which is one of the best certainly. But I recommend my favorite "The Last Array" from destiny 1's first soundtrack. It still defines high action video game music for me
