Everyone has mentioned how this plays during your flight from the Last City, your home, after it has been attacked by the warlike Cabal and their Red Legion. But no one has yet mentioned that Journey also plays at the end of the campaign, backing your return to the City as you fight to free it from the Cabal. The same track that played as you fled your home, Lightless and humbled by the might of the Cabal, now plays in your fight to take it back from them. Musical storytelling at its finest.

That was such such an epic part of the campaign, with all the visuals and the music and all the other guardians that you meet at that stage. What a shame that it got vaulted.

this is by far my favourite Destiny 2 track. It's played near the start of the base game "Red War" content when you and your allies have been stripped of your power, your home has been overrun and people are being executed systematically as you try to escape. But by far the saddest part is that this is no longer in the game as Bungie (the developers) went through a phase of "sunsetting" content (removing it from the game) . 😪

Rumors are its gonna be using a lot of "Greatest hits" from the franchise. One of the reason that the composers were unfortunately laid off is bc TFS is using less original scores that normal, and will be reutilizing some of the best parts of the franchise's soundtracks. Journey is obviously #1 in terms of best hits.

You were spot on with the drums being aggressive or attacks. The drums are used as a signature sound for an enemy race called the Cabal who are a militaristic empire and were the main antagonist at the time that this track was released.

At the beginning of Destiny 2 you lose all your powers/gear from the first game including the ‘light’ which is kinda like a Jedi losing the force. It means that you’re now mortal, as you have a little robot buddy called a Ghost that uses the light to revive you when you die (which the game’s narrative behind how you revive in the game). The Journey is your awakening after being thrown off a tower upon losing your light by the big baddie and you fighting your way through the ‘last city’ of humanity to a safe place. The music starts soft because you’re coming to terms with the tragedy but as you fight further through the level, your character becomes stronger and more determined the closer they get to the end. It’s a great opening to the game!

Destiny 2 is basically an MMO shooter about space wizards with guns that get their powers from a gigantic magic ball called The Traveler that is basically a god trying to stop various evils, but especially "the Darkness." though these days we also sort of use the Darkness too.

I still remember playing through the start of the red war. Walking through those mountains and then to have the music swell right when we you see the traveler and the cabal ship flies past you. The stress of having no light as you fight the war beasts and red legion soldiers as you make your way through he valleys. Then just as it ends the relief that you have found allies as Hawthron tosses you the gun. I will never forget those days

Michael salvatori did this beautiful theme and many others for Bungie for more than 10 years just to be given the ax by Bungie this week because of their poor management 😢 I just hope he can be rehired by someone that will appreciate his talent.

This played at the very beginning of Destiny 2. To recap, you play as an immortal warrior with space magic (called the Light), called a Guardian. In Destiny 1, you beat a good number of threats to humanity's survival in the Last City on Earth. By the time Destiny 2 had arrived, we were fearsome, god-killing badasses. We're paired with Ghosts, little sentient robots that can revive us an infinite amount of times (unless they themselves die), provided by a huge...ball(?) called the Traveler, which bestowed these gifts onto us. And then, in the very beginning of Destiny 2, an enemy faction called the Cabal invades and essentially traps and shuts off the Traveler. Ghosts can't resurrect their Guardians anymore. Guardians don't have access to their powers anymore. Civilians and their protectors alike are dying, trying to repel the invasion or escape the City. To quote the villain, Dominus Ghaul, "You aren't brave. You've merely forgotten the fear of death. Allow me to reacquaint you." And then you're thrown off a ship to the ground below. This song plays as you escape the City, severely wounded, Lightless, not knowing where to go other than "farther away from the City." You find dead Guardians, cut down for the rest of time, never to be revived again. It's a song of desperation, and it's a real shame because they CUT THE ENTIRE CAMPAIGN FROM THE GAME. You can't even play it anymore. I'm still pretty upset about it because the base game campaign has some of Michael Salvatori (who worked on Halo and all of Destiny until he was victim to personnel cuts in 2024)'s best work.

The song title of Journey perfectly translates to the song. It begins somber, dark, almost grieving. After this it gets more hopeful but maintains that tension and then you get everything coming in slowly. Instrument by instrument building to this full driving piece. It encapsulates the story of the Red War. The tower falls, we lose our light, we're broken and scattered. Over the course of the campaign we gather allies, the instruments start coming in more and more, and then we finally take the fight to Ghaul and take him down. It's a song that tells the game's story to you
@shinyuy
@shinyuy 10 месяцев назад
It starts out so somber, evoking a sense of grief in your chest. As the strings build it almost creates a chill... then the drums kick in and a sense of anticipation rises. As it layers further it wavers from that triumphant to threatening and combative. The rising of the voices start a bit distant and separate to all together, as one, swelling with all of it to a victory of sorts. It reflects in how the game plays and when this shows. Victory may have been achieved but at great cost. We stand atop the rubble with the threat gone but the work has just begun.

This was so powerful and beautiful for me the first time I heard it and considering when it plays, I actually shed tears. This perfectly reflects the situation. It's a really big shame that you can't play that scene anymore and thus hear this music anymore. RU-vid, and possibly others like it, are the only way to hear this music anymore. While I have quit Destiny 2 entirely to save my sanity, I will always fondly remember this music and the scene where it played.

Youre synopsis of the songs title is apt. Its allot to do with the lore of Destiny, especially the start of the story of Destiny 2 and the invasion of the Tower by the Cabal and the shackeling of The Traveler. You start the game alone at the syary and the somg os back ground. The somgs octaves increases as you go on as hope amd triumph. It mirrors Destinys overall theme and the creation of The Guardians as well during the collapse right before the first game. Destiny's lore is super complex, but this song actually fits the whole theme of the game as we play it.
