Basically that scratchy voice is of grandma's telling about her grandson. The whole song is about how ancestors safeguard and lived along with nature and passed it to next generation and it is our duty to safeguard as they did and pass it on to next generation.

The raspy voice you were talking about is called Oppari in Tamil. It is an art form unique to Southern India especially Tamil Nadu. This art form consists of a singer usually a female, singing in a false voice with considerable vibrato and slide notes. It was widely used in funerals. The lyrics would consist of the achievements, memories and good things about the demised person and how much his/her friends miss that person. It is also used as a medium to spread any bad news in a village (in those days, messages were conveyed to people of a kingdom by singing songs and beating a type of drum called 'Murasu'). The Tamil society was, many years back, split into different cultures with one group of people belonging to an upper caste, educated, wealthy sector, while the other group belonged to a more suppressed and poor socioeconomic class. Oppari used to be one of the art forms of the latter. Luckily such socioeconomic disparity and diversity is becoming less common in this modern era. Even the people belonging to the upper class during those days have their own artforms which are also very highly celebrated in India called 'Carnatic music and hindustani' India has such wide diversity of music and in this era people are more open minded and everybody is starting to appreciate every art form in India. The title “Enjoy Enjaami” has so much of meaning. To the people who are unfamiliar about the title, “Enjoy” is combination of two words, En + joy (thaayi), narrated by the Rapper Arivu. “En” means “My” in tamil, "thaayi" is actually "Mother" in Tamil. This normally sang by elderly people in a wake (funeral normally). It is the form of expression of pain from heart for loss of life. In this song though, it was for the pain of loss of heritage and nature. Normally many people who have empathy soul will start tears up hearing that tunes unknowingly.

This song is basically about farmers and our ancestors who worked so hard to make this earth a great place to live but they are not given the due respect that they should get. The first time he sings in his grandma's voice the lyrics go - I planted trees and made a garden. The garden grew to be very beautiful but my throat still remains dry.
