Hai, Appreciate for reacting second time with understanding lyrics.. Some more fine details to add to your understanding of the video. 1. Riding on elephants here denote live life to fullest like king.. ( some may think riding on elephants as actually riding and harming elephants ) 2.Where are my glasses , take it grandson... Denotes our grandparents will give their grand son / daughter whatever they have without even thinking for a moment. 3. Nourished garden, throat empty... Farmers not enjoying the full benefit of their hard work. 4. Did you note female lead Dhee stand out from background (dress color, lighting, dancers) and male lead Arivu camouflaged with background to make us feel we travel with him in the song and get along the crowd. Even if you are modern ,unique....Take a moment to appreciate nature and ancestors. 5. Grandma voice portion is sung by Arivu.

The song is loaded with hidden messages. Studies have found a connection between elephants and rain. There is more rain in places with more elephants. Caterpillar and frogs refer to the lower tier of the food chain without which other animals cease to exist and the butterfly will only lay eggs in a location with greens. The kingfisher bird only exists near water bodies and water was available as the olden day farmer did not exploit the land. It talks about the sequence of formation of earth. The traditional farmer always left some crops to provide heirloom seeds but we now eat GMO. We now eat so much sugar and salt and eggs are fortified. Nobody taught the chicken to lay eggs, nobody taught the peacock to look beautiful and nobody taught the algae to be green, Nature will find its way. We need to stop taking things for granted and come together and set things right. That’s the message.
@meenanachiappan243
@meenanachiappan243 3 года назад
Forgot to mention the part about the grandma’s story. The British exploited farmers from India and Arivu’s grandma was taken to Sri Lanka to plant in tea plantations then the farmers were brought back to India when they were unable to continue working and were left with nothing. They had to go back to the field in India and work hard. We take for granted all the hard work our ancestors did to put us where we are. That’s there other message.

"bitter gourd in the canopy" also has a deep meaning... bitter gourd is bitter and it refers to our old grandparents and their advice...its bitter but good for us... also the skin of bitter gourd resembles the skin of grandparents... canopy here means the canopy which tamils use to place their dead ones before burying them.. "bitter gourd in the canopy" "it has given us seeds" here literally means grandparents are dead...and they have passed on their genetic material and this land to us..

@@saffrondominic4585 It's just his point of view in my opinion it's really the grandma asking for glasses and the best part of this song is when the lyricist has put hidden sarcasm in the lines 'enjoy my dear .... riding the elephants take shower in the rains' ppl might interpret it as a cool thing to do but it is the way colonialist used to visit the slaves working in the fields riding their elephants enjoying their life showering in the rain while the slaves don't even get water to quench their thirst

The song isn't just about environment... its also about the oppression and caste discrimination.. the writer ( the guy singing ) of this song comes from the oppressed caste and he has mentioned that this song is inspired by the life of his grandmother, who used to be a plantation labourer from oppressedcommunity. " I planted 5 trees yet my throat is dry" Is a metaphor for the hard work plantation workers used to do yet they never got the fruits of their hardwork. Brilliant writing 👏

You really studied the song and reacted. Thank you !! Ignore the stupid mean comments. One of the important meaning layered in this song is in this line “I planted 5 trees. Nurtured a beautiful garden. My garden flourished yet my throat remains dry” it is like a slavery or discrimination that happened n still happens (to some extent) towards the tribal castes when they grew the crops but where not paid by the upper caste landlords. So many deep meaning in this song! Absolutely amazing !!

That's not the meaning. You are totally giving a negative connotation to the song. "My garden flourished and yet my throat remains dry" line refers to farmers to worked so hard for the land even if they are not well nourished. It showcases the sacrifices of ancestors. Don't be a woke broke machine.

Mummaari means Three rains, Maari means rain. Indha indha Mummaari means, Take three rains. In earlier days they used to say Three rains will be there per month even in summers. But it is believed Mummaari happens when all lives in harmony and kings leads the country ethically. That's why they started Come together as one. Ambaari means elephant seat above. Elephant is the important animal to grow forest by it's excretion, Forest brings us the rain. The three lines just indicates If people live in harmony and save our forest we will receive three rains in summer months like olden days.

Enjami contraction of ''En sami'' meaning ''my lord''. Primarily used to address higher class people like land owners. Valliamma, the grandmother of the writer of this song, aarivvu, addresses her grandson ''enjami''. She used to be landless laborer who was shipped off to sri Lanka by the British to work on rubber and tea plantation. There is a line in the song ''I planted 5 trees, the garden flourished, but my throat is still dry'' signifying the struggles of landless labourers who work hard on other people's land and still live in poverty. The beginning of the song shows a hand with make the earth tremble, showing the power of these labourers who extract the goodness of the earth with just their bare hands, making the earth tremble.

Hi, at 8.15 of the video the lyrics mean "I planted 5 trees, nurtured and maintained a garden, even though the trees flourished, my throat was still dry" meaning, ancestors took a lot of strain taking care of nature even in their poverty. which is the current situation of our Indian farmers. even though nature is thriving they don't get enough income to wet their throat or eat. Btw, this particular type of singing is called "oppari" that old grandmothers sing in a funeral crying and singing at the same time reminiscing the past. At 11:52 the grandmom says" I grew bitter gaurde( a healthy vegetable) in my canopy which was given to me by my parents has given out seeds so that I can use it, meaning our ancestors have left nature for us to protect so that we can give it to the next generation and this cycle has to go on.

My forest are flourishing yet my throat remains dry which means whateva difficult situation they go through they wont forget or to hesitate for taking care of trees and lands. Nature is god for the ancestors (now we are against that, not taking good care of lands and forest) And lol ur revisisted reaction is tooo deep now 🤣 u even analysing about the instruments which used for the song even the director has not done it 🤣🤣 but man great attempt i can say that u are one of the top of the list on reacting for this song because u understood each and every words along with learning about instruments 🤪

It is just very unfortunate and really heart breaking to know that, a very small amount of people in the world know that, tamil is the oldest language on the planet...... The oldest tamil alphabets are recorded to be 55,000 yrs old....... I.e 3rd century B.C......and im happy and proud that our tamil brothers and sisters are silently doing their job of preserving their language and culture.... ❤️ From a girl living in tamil nadu.......

Modern Tamil is a child of the older versions of this language. But it's definitely not the oldest language in the world.

Hi, thank you for reacting to this song again. This is an independent music album in "Tamil" by Arivu (the guy in the song) and Dhee (the girl in the song). At a higher level, the song conveys that earth is not only for humans but for all creatures of the earth. Our ancestors protected it and we should also do it. You were spot on with your explanations. But the song has deeper meanings / layers. At a deeper level, it is the voice of the oppressed people of the country. In terms of background, Arivu (the male lead) dedicates this song to his grandmother whose stories he used to composed this song. About 200 years before, the British had taken many oppressed Tamil people (from the current state of Tamil Nadu in India) to Sri Lanka and to many other countries (Africa, Malaysia, Caribbean etc.) as slaves for plantation work. In this particular context, Arivu talks about Sri Lanka where their ancestors were working. They transformed the virgin forests to plantations, livable villages and cities. After 3-4 generations, they were forced to go out of the country. With no contact with their roots, when they landed to India, they knew no relatives, no family. Doing plantation work was the only work they knew. So, they migrated to hill stations in the state to work in tea estates and doing meagre work for livelihood. And one such person was the grandmother of Arivu. It is her experience. At one point in the lyrics it says, "I planted trees, they grew and were fertile. Though they became a forest and prosperous yet I am still thirsty", which means we are in poverty and have no claim on it. We are not allowed to use it. In short, it is the voice of the oppressed, tribal folks. And, the old lady sitting in the center in the last frame is the grandmother of Arivu. :)
