It's actually very refreshing to see these professionals scratching their heads and problem solving, swapping guitars, re tuning snares etc. It's good to see all of those decisions and remember that it's a process of refining and working out the kinks. Can't wait for more :)

That tip of ctrl+dragging the audio to another track to save setting up record / mute on each take of a background vocal is really great. That's going to save me a heap of time. Awesome stuff. Thank you yet again. BTW - how do I know a mix is finished? When my daughters listen to it and say it doesn't sound like I mixed it - it sounds like a professional did!

Thanks! This prods me to carve out time to get the last of my technical difficulties fixed so my recording gear is always ready again, like it used to be. I've still been a bit mired in the move, and maintaining health. I think when I can just hit record again, and it works, the psychological uplift will do wonders. I need this kind of produce on a daily basis as well as the fruit & veg! 🙂 Thanks all, for letting us hear things moving along.

Hi Warren, very interesting video as usual! I really would like to watch a video showing talented engineers as Bob mixing synths together. You know what I mean, sounds super wide with lots of delays and reverbs mixed together.

Robert Hunt I like finding affordable gems! The under $500 Tube Mic is amazing value and I highly respect Darrell Thorp!! I also talk a huge amount about Lewitt! If someone makes something great value for money that’s going to help people make great music I’m all about it!!

Very interesting. I was a little surprised at how "directive" Bob appeared to be regarding the choice of snare & content of the drumming ... from the way the video was edited it looked like the drummer was just being dictated to. I have no issue with the choices or ideas chosen ... just wondered if, in fact, there was more of a two way communication with the drummer to arrive at those decisions, than perhaps the video suggests?
@Opeckie
@Opeckie 6 лет назад
I noticed this too, and was kind of wondering why it wasn't discussed in pre-production... unless the band just paid for an allotted amount of studio time and jumped right in perhaps? Regardless of the process though, I completely agree with his suggestions; exactly what the tune needed! Awesome insight to these videos for some of the beginners out there I'm sure.
@Producelikeapro

Hi OPeCKiE Productions, this is an excerpt of the 10 hour course. The recording was done over three days. Sometimes you mould the bands ideas, sometimes you just use them exactly as they are and sometimes you have to rewrite the part! That's a big part of being a great Producer, having this skills and knowing when to use them!
@Producelikeapro
@Producelikeapro 6 лет назад
HI Steve, thanks for your comment! Yes, this is an excerpt of a 10 hour course which we filmed over 3 days. Great Production for me is having a large skill set where you can ether rewrite, mould or leave the part as it is. The main skill is knowing when to do each of these things!
@BigBoysStudios
@BigBoysStudios 6 лет назад
Indeed. And it's incredibly important to not just arrive at the best decisions for the music but to do that in a way which ensures that the band members / performers are happy with the process, as well as the end result. The performers play their best when they feel comfortable with the process and invested in the parts they are playing.
@Producelikeapro
@Producelikeapro 6 лет назад
Agreed Steve! If you get to watch the full 10 hour course, not just the 5 minute excerpt, you'll see that Bob built great twist with the Artists!

@Producelikeapro
@Producelikeapro 6 лет назад
Егор Фейрман Marvellous question! That allows the song to feel like it has a little groove, removes the rigidity of the click. Try it! You’ll like it!

Haha, the effect they are talking about at 4:40 is called "Avid Love" in post production studios, when the producer doesn't want his "final cut" audiomaterial to be corrected in sound and timing... because he got so used to the wanky crap he did himself ;)) Sometimes it's hilarious what our mind is telling us "sounds good". This might be a Topic to get a grab on: Psychoacoustics… ;)

Sorry you've had such a bad experience! Every guy in this video is an amazing musician! As you can see Bob Horn gets on the kit and shows a Drum Part to the drummer, he's a Berkley College Of Music Graduate.
