Check out the Manners/BLACK HOLE Official Live Video. It was a COVID era stream so the production quality is more studio like. And it's true that Akane and MISA are total monsters but the other three bring equal weight to the group. Kanami is the songwriter and drives much of that creativity you're talking about. Saiki is obviously perfect in her role. And Miku... she put the band together, writes the lyrics, fronts the group, and makes strides in both singing and playing every year. This is a wonderful collaboration between equals who are surprisingly different from one another.

That "descending sound" appears in some of their other songs. It often sounds chaotic but it reminds me of the music you might hear at a circus or carnival. Sometimes I worry that their songs are getting so complicated that only other musicians will appreciate them. The general public might find it too difficult to follow and tune them out, just when they need a wider audience.

I think they will always continue making the more accessible stuff. They're just mixing in more crazy stuff with it.

Great as usual TMA. "Sense" did hit hard, especially for the anime crowd (Platinum End). Many Maidiacs prefer the co-releases "Hibana" and "Corallium".

DJ thank you for your analysis and reaction to Sense. One thing you might find interesting is that intro was written by none other than Kanami Band-Maid’s lead guitarist. She had never written that type of score before so she consulted some musicians for advise. I’m a Rush fan and definitely a Band-Maid fan. If you want a mental exercise I’d suggest Sokoninaru. Thanks again

This is the theme song for the Anime Platinum End! It appears anytime Band-Maid is contracted to do a song for Anime or a video game the song is completely different from what one expects from Band-Maid. Band-Maid is Jimmy Page approved!!

Akane is a real avid anime lover. She was more excited about this song, being involved in a new anime, than be in the Netflix movie, "Kate", which featured two Band-Maid songs and they were actually in! I love all three of the songs that were released together, "Sense", "Hibana" and "Corallium"! Great and informative review, thanks!

Mincho uses descending chromatic octaves to great dramatic effect here. And I swear I typed this right before I watched the part where you said it (great job picking that out).

And well done, yourself, DJ! Love it when musicians catch the details that this band works hard to integrate into their songs. Way too many people miss it and it's a shame. Would love to hear your thoughts on some of their more recent stuff like HGK or Giovanni.

But i see they have put up one in Seattle in October this year. Just FYI! :D About this song: it is not on any album since it was written for an anime-series named "platinum end".

The music is all written by Kanami (Lead Guitar) and the lyrics all by Miku (Rhythm Guitarist/Backup Singer). Truthfully, the songwriting and arrangements are nearly flawless and Saiki's vocals are always on point whether live or otherwise which is not true for a lot of bands.

I assume you are aware they have posted their US tour dates and cities! This written specifically for an anime show. It's a big deal for a Japanese band. I recommend "Freedom" that showcases them beautifully,

Another interesting band you should check out is Scandal. These girls have a very wide range of style of music. I can give you some suggestions and links for Scandal songs.
