he didn't do much to it man, he just put it through a cabinet filter, to roughen the mid frequencies up a bit, mirroring an effect that old recording equipment would have in some of the very old vinyl records. It works with the song.
The goal of bringing the artists in during the project wasn't simply for them to sing or play their piece, have the producer make theirs, and slap them together. it was to give a more controlled variety of styles and sounds that the producers wanted to work with. The goal was to produce something akin to brand new genres rather than a mash up of the two. LeAnn Rimes' voice is gorgeous, and in taking her voice and running it through filters, it still carries the same emotion, to me anyway.
@quadstrike actually Leanne Rhimes has one of the most beautiful natural voices i have ever heard. Her voice was altered to sound funky as hell it was all part of the production
Yeah, her voice is beautiful without the filters but the song isn't about LeAnn Rimes and showcasing her talent. PL makes dance music in a very distinct way and I think how he treated the vocals served the song perfectly. Dance music is unique because it is made for a specific function: to create an atmosphere and get people dancing. It's not about showing off talent, it's about serving the music.
While I agree that her voice is much more beautiful without the filters, I don't think it would have fit the song at all without them. The current version was pretty sweet.
I agree, while watching Re:Generation I thought she had a beautiful voice and was kind of disappointed to see that he went and threw a filter on it. Still the best track off the doc.
interesting tune. I would like if they did put more vocals from LeAnn Rimes into it. and maybe a bit less effected. I think her qualitiy is underpushed here. she´s a wonderful talent but I didnt see and hear almost nothing of her.
yeah, he altered her voice a lot. im sure her and her record company worked pretty closely with derek on this so i dont think its anything to get all worked up about. they obviously liked something about it or they wouldnt have allowed him to tweak her voice as much as he did.
@TheSimardShow Pretty lights releases all his music for free... So the answer to that is because he will release it elsewhere free so you don't have to pay for it.
Well good thing you don't have to pay for any of pretty lights music :-) Not saying he isn't amazing (cause he is) im just sayin no payment necessary for the beauty of pretty lights tracks:-)
@ThePywackett Too bad LeAnn collaborated with Derek for this track as part of the documentary. She agreed to have her voice changed as he pleased for the sake of bridging musical genres together. Sorry you don't like the track.
This is the best feeling and groove from that regen project for me. But its not finished. Just one loop, and nothing else. Nothing further developed. Its a pain because it would be so good. Nice dirty bassline. Beat. Professional harsh sounding vocals. And no changes. Agree about her vocal, not to touched like that. It was so professional when was made in the regeneration project film, and now both vokals have harsh digital unnaturalness. The main problem with that softwares they use. Notmusical
The real song is actually longer than this. and I dont like it when songs loop, cause it gets boring. If it changes throughout then it makes it better.
@Skyline10789 Yeah I'm kinda disappointed. I watched the Regeneration movie tonight and Leann's natural voice is much better than the one portrayed in the song.
It sounds cool but I guess my point is his voice was not touched and hers was so manipulated to sound like a folk singer, Dolly on an old radio, and this could have been done with anyone!
Justin fucking beiber can have a movie that is a waste of movie put in theaters and it stays for weeks but a movie worth watching is in theaters for only a few days? what.the.fuck!!!!!!???
lol other dude must have missed dubstep 101 or is trollin bc idk how anyone can be so cocky and wrong. unless hes drunk lol shit happens to me all the time
excuse me kind sir you obviously don't know what your talking about. Skrillex made a sad attempt to capture the other genre of music in his song. The end result was just another stupid robot dubstep hipster song. Thats really the only way i could describe it as opposed to your "epic" comment.
Well, regardless, it sounded better without the effects. watching the documentary, her voice was chillingly good. hearing it butchered was very disappointing. pretty lights is an underwhelming electronic musician and it's unfortunate that these 2 great artists agreed to subject themselves to this. same could be said about the doors x skrillex /gag
why did he bring LeAnn Rimes in if he was gonna butcher her voice that way? i like the song but her real voice was much better, if youre gonna bring in a star keep their voice. i agree i wish it would at least loop and be around 5min. but no matter what, bad ass song, i hope he fools with it and remixes and puts more of the lyrics of wayfaring stranger and maybe dont touch her voice so much, thats a track id pay for.
sorry that i appreciate music and think that shitty electronic is a bad look for established quality musicians. also sorry that you can't think of anything outside of "no one cares" while attempting to contribute to a discussion.
Firstly discounting, it has no reference or respect to the core of tune. There is no semblance of groove. The vocals are (especially Leanne's) are pinch shifted for no reason?? It sounds so amateurish I wonder how people like this get a shot like this.Anyone who thinks this is innovative, inventive or remotely interesting has no taste or point of reference.there is nothing clever about this at all.
