This band is sublime. Trust me. Yes I am a 20 year fan, but... disregarding Lauri's vocals for a moment, just the sheer excellence in which the instruments are played make this band one of a kind.
So. I am not very good at music genres but I do not understand why The Rasmus gets put in a metal genre at all. I feel that’s misleading. Metal fans will think their music is too soft or they expect more of them. Or that is my impression at least. They are not metal, and never was, IMO. They have had some metal influences here and there but that’s it. They are alternative rock for the most part. But they’ve been doing music since 1996 (formed in 1994) and they’ve had so many different influences in their music it’s hard to define them to just one genre, hence why alternative rock fits best, With everything from funk rock and jazzy vibes to rock and rock-pop to more electronic sounds with some rap like parts thrown in as well. I love this band a lot. Their biggest/most famous era was back in 2003-2008. They got international fame with In the shadows 2003 on the album Dead Letters. They released a collection album, ”Best of 2001-2009” if you’re interested to hear some of their music. Lauri, the singer, wrote Jezebel with Desmond Child for Eurovision. (Child also co-wrote and produced their album Black Roses 2008) Lyrically it’s rather simple but I think that was intentional with Eurovision in mind. A catchy chorus was the more important part. Usually Lauri’s lyrics are rather dark and deep, lots of metaphores/ambigious lyrics. Some are simple and direct too of course. They’ve released 9 albums and is working on a 10th. The lady guitarist, Emilia, is new in the band and this was her first song with them.
I don't think I would label them ad Heavy Metal either. Hard Rock, that I can buy. I'm not familiar with a lot of their work but this song would fit as Hard Rock for the HR and Metal Charts. I do need to check out some more of their stuff. Interesting find for me. Thanks for letting me know!

I wasn’t a fan of them until 2003 so I am not very familiar with their 90’s music. But personally I find it interesting to go back and see those early songs. They were only 15 when they first formed their band in school in 1994. So 17 when they released their first album.
