I wanted to be a theater kid so bad in high school but the few times I actually got accepted into the cast, everyone, including the directors, treated me like crap. Now, I’m content just belting showtunes alone in my room
I'm really sad to hear that. I wish you many more years of happily belting out songs from musicals with people who treat you with the kindness and respect you deserve. Much love.
I love musicals so much and I’ve watched so many, and I’m a theatre kid and love performing on stage. My big problem is that I can’t really sing very well. So I really want to be in a bunch of musicals, but even if I do get in, I will most likely be in ensemble
do lots of vocal warm ups daily (this really helped my voice) and keep believing that your voice will get better the more you practice i also know a few things to keep your voice healthy if you wanna know
@@GRE4S3RSS I’d love to know if you have some suggestions. I was able to have two singing lessons but I won’t be able to have any more until the summer is over. Any suggestions you have would be amazing
@@northernwords9966 to keep your voice healthy: warm up before singing, its okay to not to do it sometimes but try to avoid not doing it, avoid clearing your throat, instead drink something, keep your voice hydrated (drink lots of water and steam is also a great way!), its great to have days where you rest your voice, and try to avoid whispering a lot, thats all that comes to my mind rn and that was stuff my choir teacher taught to improve: vocal warm ups are GREAT, i went from d3-f#6 to d#3-b6 and now im at d#3-d7 from doing 30 minutes to an hour long of warming up my voice. try to project, remember opening up your jaw to at least 2 finger spaces is a great way to project, also, when opening your jaw more, DO NOT OPEN IT SO MUCH TO WHERE IT SEEMS LIKE YOUR YELLING, its great to annunciate certain letters too. understand the emotional value of a song and also what you think it means is a great way to involve yourself more in the song. if you feel tension in your jaw, try to release that tension too if theres a will, theres a way, and remember, it takes an ensemble to make a show. youll definitely improve over time with practice, and be confident in your singing! directors can tell when your nervous. i thought i would always be ensemble, like how you think, but now i have a role with a solo, thats proof you shouldnt give up. if you would like to, keep me updated, i would love to hear about how your singing is going along and ill give you more tips if i find/remember more
Don't worry about it!! I've been in the Ensemble in every musical I've been in, and it's actually awesome!! Trust me, I think you'd like it if you tried it. You get to do cool harmonies, and as well as being crucial to driving the story forward you also get to meet cool people and mess around a lot. In my opinion it's also really fun when ever you get to make character choices onstage because I love to plant those little details for the audience to notice, and it really helps to create the atmosphere. If you want to try musicals, go for it!!!!!
i've got some musical theater casting tea from my partner if anyone wants to hear it. (feast upon this ye theatre kids) SO there have only been four productions in the school's relatively new theater program and every single one of them has had almost the exact same cast list with little to no variation in every one of them. BLATANT favoritism on the casting director's part but most other people get in the ensemble so not really a big deal. right? WRONG they announce the musical is the PJO musical and everyone goes BONKERS because yea it's great. BUT THEN ALMOST NO ONE GETS IN EXCEPT THE SAME 15 PEOPLE and the girl everyone was POSITIVE was getting annabeth (who literally has the most amazing voice you've ever heard and has been in so many productions before this) didn't even get in. instead they casted this other girl who (1) does NOT in ANY way have an annabeth voice (2) is the president of the theater club so it looks like they just casted themselves AND (3) DIDN'T EVEN SHOW UP TO THE MANDATORY DANCE AUDITION AND WENT TO A PARTY INSTEAD AND STILL GOT THE LEAD. (to be clear you have to sign a form that says that if you miss that then you're out of the running no exceptions) anyway there's your daily dose of theater drama :D (this is just stuff my partner has told me XDDD so not mine. just thought that the fellow theater girlies would appreciate some tea)
The way our school just had the exact SAME thing happen with PJO. I made it into ensemble but this stuff is MESSED UP as hell. Feels like the show is cursed with how small it’s cast size is, recipe for disaster 😭
That’s awful, especially because PJO is such a good one to do with a lot of people. It’s my favourite book and musical so I would be so annoyed if to happened to me
I hate! Biased casting directors. Like bro why, “This one has talent and can handle the role, this one isn’t very good and can’t handle the role. Who should I give it to? Well I like the second one better so them. Who cares if they are good at singing, acting, or dancing.” Like when is the logic in this?
I just finished my opening night of into the woods as Jack and I’ve been getting over the flu (over all pf tech week). this video was relatable in a lot of ways
Invitations to the spring show come out on Monday and I'm so nervous cause I really want to be in the production🙊🙊 thank for this so I will not suffer so much wait a whole day and a half
y'all my school is doing shrek the musical and we had auditions yesterday and i think it went really well!!!! one of the directors(?) told me he thinks i should be fiona and the cast list might come out next week‼️‼️‼️🤭🤭🤭
@@girtle8599 the cast list came out two weeks ago, i didn't get fiona, abut my friend did!!! i'm really happy for them, i got dragon/teen fiona/ugly duckling so i'm pretty happy with what i got!!!!
@@lovemoth_ that’s amazing!!! I love it when my friends get the big roles and yours are none too shabby either! I’m sure you’re going to have a TON of fun with it based on what I’ve heard from the soundtrack. Sounds like you’ll also get some interaction with your Fiona friend onstage too which is so fun :) break a leg with all this, I hope rehearsals go smoothly and the performances are even better! Do you know when performance dates are, how long you have to rehearse?
my audition is in march !! i think the cast list comes out in april? i really hope i get in 😭 i havent had many chances to audition for plays or musicals because of covid
they sound great but the girls at 0:40 are singing the most random harmonies and i died laughing on the last belong cause i just finished the show and was so ready for the triad and it was- not what i was expecting. Props to them though their version was also great
Help not me watching this right before callback list comes out (literally it’s coming out in 20 minutes) HOPING FOR VIVIENNE CALLBACK (the show is legally blonde)
@@malilky-paperanimals I didn’t get a callback 😭🙏 now I’m a law student/salon worker but I’m just glad I didn’t get cut cuz 1/4 of the ppl who auditioned did
3:15 We went to New York last week as a theater trip and we were supposed to see this show (obviously not this exact one but just The Play That Goes Wrong in general) but our director got tickets for the wrong week and we’re so upset about it ;-;
