To all of you who attended the Premiere THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of your generosity!!! Love you guys! When Jonah and I were chatting about how they did their videos I sent him a screenshot of the poll (ru-vid.comcommunity) and this was his response.... Jeff: "Looks like people wanna be "Rickrolled" by Dirty Loops 😆" Jonah: "Hahahahaha! Well this could happen! 😆 that's hilarious! I wonder what we would do with that song, hmmm" Jeff: "You would be legendary if you did it! Wonder? Just do what you always do...make it 10 times better😆
We, the followers of "The Jeffness" bow to you Jonah, Aron and Henrik for the joy you bring us! So glad you are doing your crazy magic to music... ;-) ...only speaking for myself here frankly - or not?
You have no idea how happy this made me;; this was fun, on soo many levels! What I wouldn´t do to get rickrolled by Dirty Loops!!! It's an instant classic! Thank you (mah name...speaking of memes) Jeff. Even if this doesn´t come to fruition, the thought of hearing something like that is enough to make me excited!!!!
Thank you so much, Marcus! Ya man, it doesn't take much for me to get there emotionally with these guys. This this was particularly hard for me to keep it together.
The keyboard solo has a Pat Methany vibe that fits perfectly with the tune. I've always loved this song, and their cover really makes it stand out on its own.
Can't believe you hadn't heard this one, it's one of my absolute favorite covers of theirs! So beautiful and nothing quite like anything else they've done. Henrik's little harmonic at the end of the bassline at 2:13 there is so ethereal.
This was the first song that I heard from Dirty Loops. It came up as a recomendation from RU-vid. I Love the original Alphaville version so I gave it a try. I could not stop repeating the song. Att first it was the drumming. Soo tight and in the pocket. I had a hard time to believe, it was possible to play that tight. Short after that discovery they released "Work shit out" and I was sold. For real I was crying. It just blew My mind.
Yet another wonderfully vulnerable, honest reaction. Dirty Loops have this amazing ability to make covers that end up sounding and feeling like originals. You sir have an amazing ability to listen to the music with all your decades of experience and yet share your appreciation of it with the innocence of a child.
Some crazy harmonies and bass/drum licks that brings tears to my eyes...Jonah tops it off with dreamlike vocals and keyboard masterstrokes! Heartfelt and honest reaction from you! Love from 🇸🇪
Thank you, Jeff. Beautiful reaction. Nostalgia to the bone. Road trip with the love of my life, enjoying the majestic sceneries of our neighboring country Norway. Sleeping in the back of the car whilst rain and thunder was raging outside - safe, young and in love. We didn't stay forever young, but the memories do. Who could ask for more ❤️.
😁 Jajamen, Bollnäs här. Hej Gabbe! Helt osannolikt att mötas så här, så himla globalt. Skickar kram! Jeff: Two gals, who haven't seen each other in decades, from the same small town in the middle of Sweden saying hello on your channel. Who'd have thought! 😄👍
Jeff! DL reaction videos GOAT by now! 🙏🏻 Always such a pleasure. Enjoying these videos paired with your reactions and remarks makes me feel like Im seeing/hearing it again for the first time. Which is so great!
I know, I know Jeff. I’m crying right along with you -- and I’ve heard it SO MANY TIMES--the WHOLE THING. But vocally and pianistically - it’s beyond Sensational. One can so easily get lost in this Dirty Loops. Thanks for reminding me how tremendous this is!!! You’re just great!!
I was a wreck even BEFORE I hit the play button! LOL The songs kills me to begin with and DL gotta go do THAT with it. SHEEESH! Thank you Julie! :) :) :)
Ahhhh I'm working on those subs! I'm just getting started really. I think I'm going on 6 weeks with the channel. Getting there! Thank you so much for your kind words. :) :) :)
It's funny how I couldn't even listen to you talk about the original Forever Young without choking up myself, man that song really got to us all. I remember being, what, 10 years old or something, hearing my sisters play it day in and day out, and it just mercilessly drilled a hole in my soul that's been sitting there ever since. Now, Dirty Loops doing this cover and presenting it the way they do here... It's just amazing. I could just sit here and listen, and actually cry, and be the happiest ever.
Man, your comment is making me cry!!! 😭❤️ I almost lost it right from the start of my reaction before the music even started! Some songs have that melancholy magic…this one has tons.
This is my favorite of their covers. The reharm in the chorus just kills me and Jonah soloing over it...my goodness. The chills. I made the mistake of first hearing it while I was driving. Important tip: NEVER have a first listen of anything by Dirty Loops while driving. I had to pull over because I just couldn't do anything. Incredible cover and maybe my favorite cover of anything.
One of the many things I love about these guys is that their sound is unique, a new version that will never grow old. Thanks for sharing your love and yep, just like of us, bitten by the Dirty Loop bug. I can say without remorse that they are actually my favorite band, hands down.... not an easy one to overcome. The passion of each arrangement and execution is flawless, even if they'd try to make a mistake on purpose it would sound great. They raised the bar exponentially!!! So happy they exist. Blessings Jeff, this was a great birthday treat for me. Best vibes 4 U 🙌✨🎵
@@StrateleStudios Thanks man! Appreciate it. I just get hungry for more.. They are contagious in many ways for music fans and geeks. The way they execute is a show on itself. Keep on with the good stuff, and I promise to check other videos. Try to not think of DL as a reference. Hahaha Have a great weekend!
Was fun being in the stream with you guys ´n girls ;-) looking at you Kim and J.Elise What really grabbed me is how they encircled the original always coming back to the core elements in a pretty pure form. I think you can tell how big of a meaning this song has for them too...
I can't help feeling like they took some cues from The Pat Metheny Group's 'Letter from Home' album: at the beginning, I thought, "this feels a lot like 5-5-7" and at 4:15 I was transported straight to 'Are We There Yet,' with a reprise of the '5-5-7' feel laid on top of the texture of the second half of that chart. Speaking as a Metheny fan for the last 25+ years, this made me love Dirty Loops even more! 😍
Another great reaction Jeff! Did u notice Henrik using the little key on bass... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SSKiR3_hVys.html it looks he is decreasing half tone the first bass string...
Have you listened to their cover of "Wake Me Up"? I think it's a little off the beaten path for them, but wonderful. I also recommend "Over the Horizon" which also has a different feel to what we're used to.
@@StrateleStudios OVER THE HORIZON???!!!! Finally someone does a reaction video and it’s the best one. Our favourite Jeff! 😃 Yeeeeess!! So excited for that! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Hope I catch it right away cause Im a little worried it might get shut down since Samsung probably owns the rights to it. 😬
During the reaction, I was scraping my brain looking for this information and came up short. THIS IS EXACTLY what I was looking for. You are totally on the money!
My favorite part of this cover is the subtle pedal tone in the chorus. I think the pedal tone is an F#, and the first four notes in the bass line are D, E, F# and G# (sort of outlining D lydian). Meaning that F# is a 3rd against D, a 9th against E, a root/an octave against F#, and as a dominant 7th against G#. I'm not sure G# is the root though, I'm hearing an inversion. But man, those four chords are uplifting! #justmusictheorynerding You can hear it better in the synth solo (starting from "that" 4:3 polyrhythmic run), which is killer, by the way... I swear, I'm done nerding out now... And I feel you, man. Isn't it great that there's actually music out there that actually makes us feel like that. Dirty Loops is just one of those bands. Jacob Collier made me cry from the first chord of a song ("Butterflies" off Vol. 3)... 2021 is a great year for music.
Fellow theory geek! hahaha...what do you think about the opening of the song being in G# Phrygian? The bass guitar notes right at the top sound like G# D# F# G#...THEN homeboy starts the next lick with A! I was just playing along improvising in G# Phrygian and it sounded nice...after that I'm not sure without pulling out my headphones. Curious to know what you think! :)
@@StrateleStudios Always love nerding out about these things. ;) Interesting point about G# Phrygian though! I'm really a product of growing up in the 80's and 90's listening to mostly hard rock and metal music (thanks dad), in which phrygian is heavily used, no pun intended. So phrygian does fly under the radar sometimes. l have to listen to the opening again, it seems. I'm just a sucker for those super bright sounds. And to that end: I figured out the chord progression in Jonahs solo during that 16-th note run. After dissecting the melody line I believe it's D13#11 (there's your lydian), E6-9, F#add9, G#7sus4. It starts out tense with the first chord, then mellows out a bit on the E and F# chords, but that G#7sus4 has a tritone in it between the ... Hold up.... G# major is.. G# A# *B#* C# D# *E#* F# G#... Think I'll swap the 7 sharps for 5 flats... That *Ab7sus4* has a tritone in it between the final note C in the melody and the pedal tone b7. To me it ends up sounding both bright and dark. I'll get back to you on the phrygian thing👍
@@StrateleStudios Sadly I was never any good at keyboards. I began as a flutist, believe it or not. Then I taught myself guitar, bass and a smattering of other stuff. It's been years and years since I recorded anything, mostly on account of being a dad. The theory stuff is also self taught. I just love figuring stuff out. Why does this chord sound bright or dark? Is this a polyrhythmic or wonky groove? And why does leaning on the 2 and 6 when improvising over a minor7 chord sound "fusion-y" rather than blues-y? That's all good fun, but I've always been better at the theory stuff than the actual playing. I mean, on the flute was more than fine, but with the guitar in particular I could never get my left hand dexterity going. So no noodling or lead stuff, no matter how much I practiced. I did get pretty good with a pick, and I can do some Tosin Abasi style "thumping." Think I'll have to get more serious with it again. I thought I'd mention what music inspires me these days, because you seem just as thirsty for music that's full of information, so to speak, both technically and emotionally. My absolute favorite guitarist right now is Joshua De La Victoria. He has a few releases to his name, and a RU-vid channel with short snippets of ideas which are fully produced. He delves into pretty advanced stuff without it sounding overly complex or void of emotion. Like metric modulation. And you obviosly know of Owane, who's actually an aquaintance of one of my younger brothers (should probably mention I'm Norwegian). And he's made insane strides in his playing over a very short period of time. Like the Crossroad Blues guy... Finally, the phenomenon that is Louis Cole, and his band Knower. The music is chord heavy his drumming is insane. He also has a two man side project called Clown Core with himself on drums, Sam Gendel on sax, and the both of them on a smattering of synths and horns. I imagine that started just as a joke, but is still just entertaining. I mean, the last album was recorded in a moving van in Garage band. Wow, this was a long one... I'll end on this note: Jonah uploaded a session breakdown of "Bad" on RU-vid. You'll probably want to get on it ;)
Old stuff ... "The Way She Walks," "Accidentally in Love," "Die for You," "Undo" (cover), "Ta Fete" (cover), "I'm Lost in You," and of course, "Hit Me."
I am doing just what you are doing...crying. To think, 2 years ago they disbanded after a crappy contract with David Foster. He did not know what to do with them. But, there is a God. He sold their contract to Quincy Jones. Dig into their new stuff with Cory Wong and the horn section overseen by The great Quincy Jones. My first purchase when I build my house is a pair of Martin Logan speakers and an Adcom amp, I will be listening to Dirty Loops as an audiophile.
Oh man, another one you most certainly would like is Eleanor Rigby performed by Sam Wilkes, Louis Cole, and Jacob Collier. I think the names say enough
tell me if I'm wrong but I think he already used this patch for a solo, for the next to you one... I'm not sure ! As always godo reaction and good analysis !
You know I think you're right! I think the fact that he was playing in a lower register reminded me more of a trombone patch but they do sound the same! Good catch!
Please do a reaction to Elephant Gym. Such an amazing band from Taiwan; Im sure that you will LOVE them! It's so funny - nowadays when I hear something I enjoy, my first thought is "I bet Jeff would like this!" lol
The original always annoyed the hell out of me…😂 and now it’s a thing of beauty. Agree on the shuffle 100% and together with the harmonies, bass lines to die for, vocals. It’s too good. And YOU are too good, Jeff!! ♥️ Ps. Scary Pockets have made a Rick Roll, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sQnoZUR6fvY.html
Hi Jeff! I have question to you. Do you think DL use auto tune? You are a musician and a producer. Sometime the high notes sounds artificiell. Maybe I’m wrong but I have read about auto tune and that many artist use it today. Anyway, thank you for your wonderful reactions.
Hi Thomas, that is a great question! I would say that if Jonah does use auto tune it’s to hasten the recording process and not because he CAN’T sing it “perfectly”. In the old days we’d have to sing something 20 times to get the one take “perfectly” executed but today we have tools that allow us to correct minor issues then go on our way. Can it be abused? You bet it can and you hear it when it is. To get a good sense of how much it is or isn’t used with Jonah take a listen to his live performances. It’s obvious he needs very little help from auto tune.
@@StrateleStudios since you’ve heard it already, you mightn’t be able to do a reaction to it, but maybe an analysis of it? There are so many insane (and hilarious) moments in it…. 🙏
This was amazing (per usual!) I would love to see you react to a track by "Dance Gavin Dance" Not exactly mainstream or easy-listening, but you have a very eclectic taste, so I think you would appreciate them.
I recently discovered this band, so I'm sure there's a lot of DGD fans that would disagree; but I think "strawberry swisher pt 3 (tree city session 2)" is something you would enjoy (the video is of a live set, rather than a conventional music video)
I looooove the dynamics in "uneasy hearts weigh the most" (tree city session 2) So if I may revise my pick - that track is more interesting, in my most humble opinion.
@@StrateleStudios I know right?! So they have 3 unique voice's in that band. I really love all those ghost hits from the drummer 🤩 Regardless if you like it or not, none of their tracks will leave you bored and that is high praise, if you ask me 🤗
@@StrateleStudios Very nice first part of your interview! Well done! Have you heard this, very early, DL-production: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0LXQYAphr0M.html
