1st things first, thanks Jeff for opening up this branch of music aka Funk/Soul! I stumbled over Scary Pockets only 2-3 weeks ago but MAN I was lost form the 1st vid I saw... THIS!!! I never heard of Judith Hill but she sang backing voc at Princes stuff. She really is more than skilled for the front row - that PHRASING killed me + her raunchy voice... KILLER! Scary Pockets catalogue is packed with funkafied classics --> "Dreams" Fleetwood Mac with Elise Trouw OMG ;-) To me they are the new Funk Brothers from Motown records back in the days, rock solid grooves and prime arrangements - the perfect platform for many singers.

I TOTALLY agree with you about Judith Hill! She's AMAZING! I first noticed her as a background singer for David Foster on one of his Hitman shows...

‘Awesome to see you dive into Scary Pockets, man! They also did another track with Judith and it’s this incredibly fresh, unique cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. I’d love for you to check that one out in the future. P.S. The drummer on Judith’s sessions is TaRon Lockett, who’s currently the drummer for Cory Henry and the Funk Apostles, so that’s an easy one for today’s game of Six Degrees of Snarky Puppy. 😋 ‘Can’t wait for you to dive into Oz’s stuff as well, man. Dave Weckl’s one of my all-time fave drummers, and the work those two put out is astounding.
