This such a cool and fresh take on a all time classic Ella Fitzgerald tune. Love the playing, the singing, and the whole vibe! Socials Twich: twitch.tv/kyleiswildtv Twitter: @Kyleiswild55 Instagram: @kyleiswild
Song has a good bit of history. It's a Gershwin Brothers song from "Porgy and Bess" and was written to imitate the old timey folk sound. It's been sung by may greats over the years. Notably for this style, two artists from the 1960s really brought the song into a new dimension that still influence how the song remains ever popular is certain circles and how it is performed. Janis Joplin performed "Summertime" regularly in concert. The other artist of the 1960s that really gave the song new legs was Doc Watson and that is a big influence on this performance.
I am the biggest BMFS fan there is, but DAMN every time I listen to this I am blown away by the parts Marcus plays during the last verse. His accent chording with the bite in that tone is just fucking awesome.
This is one of my favorite performances of all time by anybody. And I enjoyed watching you enjoy it, because you're obviously someone who knows how incredibly good it is. lol
They are both excellent tho, are they not?! :) You seem familiar with Billy already, but on the off-chance that you've not seen it yet, I'd love to see your thoughts on his "Turmoil & Tinfoil" - #PanteraBluegrass FTW!! ;)
