Couldn't be so much more true AND accurate Jizzy about not phoning it in, no matter WHAT... Love your wisdom and your love and passion for what you do. STILL... feel like I should send you a copay this was such good therapy.😂
You’re a good man Pearl. I like the enthusiasm and the hard truth of ‘if you don’t like the day job, don’t take it out on us’. 😆…oh and the phone thing drives me crazy too.
I have a bit of an add on to this . I'm 58 , been playing out since the early 90's , but my music is a niche' fit so I don't exactly sell out rooms . When Cats talk about playing to an "empty club", well I have literally done that because when the only 2 people there (sound guy and bartender) went out to smoke I was the only person in the entire venue . I've had a room full of people walk out during the first song , been talked over , met with absolute silence and totally ignored . But plenty of times people have dug it too. And the thing I learned looooong ago is don't put your satisfaction in the audiences hands, keep it in your's . All I got is how I feel after giving my absolute best for every second of the show. I don't have fame or fortune , but I do have that satisfaction . In the end , it a HUGE privilege to get to share my music . And if you take the time and money to see me then I owe you everything I got . Because if you , as a performer can't do that , then the crowds will never be big enough , the applause never loud enough , the critics never kind enough . And in my opinion , that's why we have lost so many of our artists by their own hands .
Hi, brad.keep your head up high man..because I'm the type of fan that supports the struggling muscian.i support independent artist...it's the independent muscian who i support, if it means I'm the only attendant at a show, I don't care, I'd rather stand alone and watch my fellow muscian play, because I am TRUE LOYAL MUSIC FAN ,I WILL ALWAYS SUPPORT OBSCURE, UP COMING ARTIST..ID RATHER STAND ALONE TO SUPPORT ARTIST, WHEN OTHERS DONT GET IT, KEEP THE FAITH BRAD. U KNOW WHAT U KNOW,& WHAT U BELIEVE, KEEP ROCKN
Jizz, you’re so right about the phone cameras. Admittedly, I’ll take a pic or two, maybe a video clip, but not the whole frickin’ show. My best memories come from watching the actual show, not some video.
QR is absolutely hitting at a high level these days. I watched from side stage and was blown away by your set at Picktown Palooza last month. Great voice and super solid band! Playing "Blackout" was a cool bonus!
Only time i ever had a chance to meet you was at a l.a, guns (tracii's post brides) show in italy and you were mad at me because i took a few pics with a digital camera (it was probably around 13 years ago or so) and i didn't notice until after the show that my flash was on. for that i whole heartedly apologize. this video totally gave me the perfect plug to finally do so .
You are cool as Hell, Jizzo! Great vid. I will see you in a couple weeks at the Milwaukee Indycar race, the very type of gig you were speaking of. My 2 worst gigs: ( and I absolutely was part of the problem! ) New Years Eve 1994 : Brutal. We didn't do any promotion because "its New Years, everybody will be out." Not unless you invite them. They WILL be somewhere, just not at your gig. 6 people, tops. "Band Showcase Wednesday!" and we were the hosts. So we played after every band while the next ones got ready to set up. Dude, by the 3rd band I was literally sleeping at the bar, all of us were. It was awful, the bands, the crowd , us, the bartenders. It was like Cheech N Chong playing the Roxy BEFORE the smoke came through the vents. 😂 There was quite a few more people than the other place to witness us play our worst. Live n Learn .
Jizzo, you are the epitome of a Professional Musician, and an inspiration to the younger generation. I know the late great Ronnie James Dio is up there smiling down at you. I saw Dio in 1993, at the Malibu Night club in Lido Beach, NY. The arena days were past; but he brought it like he was playing to a crowd of 20,000. One of the best shows of my life, and I wasn't really a big Dio fan back then. But the way he played that little club told me all I needed to know about True Rock n Rollers.
Your efforts do not go unnoticed, Jizzo. I saw Quiet Riot a couple of weeks ago in Clinton Iowa, and I walked away with the biggest rock concert buzz in my lifetime. Im 52, and I brought my 17 year old nephew in-law, and he even felt it. I knew the set from many RU-vid videos, and it never gets old. It just rocks. The four of you are probably one of the tightest bands I have ever seen. I did video some of the show for the memories and RU-vid, but of course, it's to share the moment with my friends. Anyway, your channel is very entertaining, and the bands story shows that perseverance does pay off. Thank You Jizzy!
Love it! If you do Blackout in the Red Room in Louisville next week, I will take off my Mets hat and reveal my bald head in utter excitement. Either way, I cant wait for show!
Thank you my brother. I remember when I joined it was 1.200 subscribers and look how this is growing. It is because people are hungry for good rock and metal. Yes, you are totally right about your first point regarding people trying to capture the moment in their cell phones. They don't only ruin their experience, they also ruin it for everybody else around them in the show. In the end, nobody cares that you recorded that show and your are not likely to be rewatching it more than twice. Please people. When you attend a concert, just be in the moment, absorb the music and engage with the people around you. This is how you and your community betters up. Your second point about the musicians looking bored at one of the community events, like county fairs. Think this. It does not matter what the other people are doing. You will usually meet resistance at anything you work on. I have been in gigs where a few women were totally laughing at me because I was playing metal and head banging. It is not for everybody but I like it and millions of people like what we do. I find that usually children really get into it. Some of them are looking at the musicians that they found love for music and performance. Just think God put you there so you can introduce music to the newer audiences and present the art to other people who need to re discover you. Rock on and all of you bands with good songs, keep at it and keep it ringing out...like Lars said.
Yes! The spirit of music calls for everything you've got at every performance! I've been saying it for years: Just because the room appears empty doesn't mean nobody is there. 🙌
I'm not quite sure how you can enjoy a show through a phone. I try to only get clips of my favorites and then put the phone down. I do have to say, Jared Leto and Shannon Leto's band, 30 Seconds To Mars....I never took my phone out once....I just didn't care to....I was In The Zone as a concert goer. Singing every lyric along with band, being in that moment where you're there but the music itself takes you off to another world.....that's where it's at! But I do have to say, I do like to record just a little bit of my favorite parts of a good show for memories to look back at later....But the music is meant to be enjoyed, it's meant to be in the moment....Not through a phone. QR and LH never disappoints....EVER! It's the best when it takes you back to being a teenager and or young adult. Sometimes REAL music is all we have to hold onto in this insane world.
Such a great message. Reminds me of when I saw Frankie Valle in the 80s at the Edmonton Coliseum. Only 1000 tickets sold. He had everyone come down from the upper deck and sit closer. Then he played like it was a full house. He came to Edmonton again to the Jubilee Auditorium and sold out. Never forgot that lesson in professionalism. I saw you recently at Grey Eagle in Calgary. To me, you guys were the headliner. My only disappointment was there were no t-shirts. I was hoping for a Metal Health one. 😊 You are a fantastic front man. 🤘
QR’s first show after Frankie passed…… I was in that pasture in the middle of BFE Missouri. I actually live about 3 miles from said BFE pasture lol. The crowd was boring as shit I thought, but you all did not even remotely look like it affected you. Professional as hell and brought it with energy and then some. Total respect.
DUDE! This is price less! great great great content Jizzy. Deserves a second watch - you should be a counselor at a school or college man! (Obviously on your free time! we want you on stage)
Cheap Trick should be playing huge gigs!!! Classic. And yes, those filming entire concerts annoy the fuck out of me. Snap a pic, take a video, and then put the fucking phone away!!!! Nothing is more annoying!!! Thanks Jizzo for doing what you do and still doing it great!!!!! Rockin' and rollin'''!
The concert-goer with the phone doesn’t bother me any more than the concert-goer spilling beer, singing along loudly, and sneaking vape hits. I’d prefer to be an audience of one, left to quietly enjoy the show, but I deal with others at a concert the same way I do while driving on the highway: with deep breaths and gnashed teeth covered with a fake smile. Btw, I’ve seen Cheap Trick play a concert hall, a 5K seater, a rib burn-off, and a gazebo in a bar full of meat-heads. In my opinion, they always brought the full show and I respected them for it.
Jiz, I saw yall in Columbia md, m3 this summer, to my surprise, yall won the day. I was there to see the headliner and last in line, and really didn't give qr a chance since I seen the original lineup with Carlos open for ozzy way back n the day at the cap center. BUT yall got my attention and it was really fun reliving all those songs again with a high energy band. Your words here is the greatest advice for anyone in musical performance. Thanks.
Absolutely. Ive seen them more than any other band , by a ton. They were my 1st Eagles Club show on my 16th birthday. Im well over 50 now. Ive seen them so many times @ SO MANY different places. They've played on a freaking baseball diamond , in the middle of the day, at a small local fair in Waukesha, Wi. ( also saw Sponge that day with about 10 other people) Iconic band .
Ironic, I'm gonna catch ya at the fair this Sat Billings MT 😁🤘 ! (Phone will be in pocket entire show, except I do like pre show stage set up pics...or if you're available before /after) Looking forward to it , as I last saw you w Ratt same city, which you were cool enough to take a moment to talk to me & my bro, sign my shirt and rock out from the crowd. Always remembered + respected that btw... Rock on!)
I understand Jizzo, but think in the fans aroud the world...im in Buenos Aires, Argentina. If nobody is fimling... how can i see this legendary bands? ( including you¡ i saw you with Tracii Guns here in Bs As) i dont film when i go to a rock show, but i wanna see it later)..
I appreciate what you’re saying but I think your perspective of Cheap Trick is incorrect. I’ve seen them so many times Jizzo I’ve never seen them do a bad show and I can’t say that about anybody else I’ve seen. I appreciate what you do!
Great update as ever. Having bought your music, seeing your gigs and hearing your thoughts it’s patently obvious you give a shit. Please continue to give a shit! Also….phones. The scourge of the live show! F’king detest them everywhere. That’s my thoughts! Cheers mate.
It’s pointless to record a concert when you can just go on RU-vid and watch recordings of the same concert. About Robin Zander’s hat I agree it’s gotta go. I also think Slash needs to ditch the hat and Angus Young needs to rid himself of the uniform
There's nothing more annoying, u go to a show to listen to the bands music, There's annoying people talking around u, when all you want to do is get in to the bands music/ NOT the audience talking during the music, I came to ROCK, & SUPPORT MY FAV BANDS MUSIC, Not txtn during shows too, My attention & support go to my fellow Rock & metal idols
I'd hazard a guess that most of tbe people who film gigs on their phone never watch them again. Complete waste of time and sound quality sucks 9 times out of 10.
Annoying? Yeah, a bit. But not nearly as annoying to me as an entire audience singing the dang lyrics so loud that I can't hear the actual performer sing it.
i grew up in 70s and 80s and yes the phones are horrible the whole experiance is horrible i seen all the bands you talk about in there prime cheap trick several times and no offence but i cant stand to see a band with one original guy left i cant pretend im 18 again the energy is gone and those guys arent hungry anymore and im half deaf but i miss stage volume lol
At 53 I can say I have only recorded ONE song at a concert. On KISS KRUISE 2 I finally had a good digital camera and recorded Cold Gin. For that song it was like I was watching Kiss on a TV at home but louder. I was totally out of the show, totally out of the experience and I've never bothered recording anything ever again. It's just stupid.......
Only one question: I saw you like 20 years ago when you were in L.A. Guns and not only thought you were great, but you played Blackout! Awesome. My wife thought you were the original singer of L. A. Guns. :-) When you have been with Quiet Riot I know Frankie did not allow anything other than Quiet Riot to be played so now that he has passed can you play Blackout occasionally now in Quiet Riot's set?
