You look back at Steve Hackett's body of work and think wow! And he' still coming up with wonderful stuff!

I met Steve in Feb 2020 just before his show and holy what a down to earth humble guy. We talked about the Alberta Rocky Mountains and the paintings his father made of them. We didn't even talk about music--just the beauty of nature. He signed about 8 LPs of his and Genesis that I brought. Amazing person. And as he said, interacting with fans he has no problem with. I was so honoured to have met him.

Hello, I saw the Edmonton show on Feb. 27/2020. I met him twice on Cruise to the Edge and agree, very laid back humble man.

Steve's solo on "12" is one of the coolest guitar solos EVER! There's so much to geek-out over when it comes to Steve's guitar work over the years.
@johncassidy3071

Just pulled up the comments to say the same thing. That solo on 12 is a multi-goosebump moment for me. What's so interesting is that you don't even have to know the line up, and you can go "Is that Hackett?" And be reasonably sure it is.

Genesis Revisited would have been so much better if it had a way better singer than Nad Sylvan. You know, someone on the level of, for example... Neal Morse!
@lastdaysguitar
@lastdaysguitar 3 года назад
@@anthonyfarshaw8619 I agree with Steve's choice: Nad was perfect for the role - his voice has that important brassy Gabriel quality that Neal just does not. Also Nad is quite theatrical, as Peter Gabriel was in the days these songs were performed. And I'm a huge fan of Neal's (obviously). No Nad Sylvan bashing here - I'm a fan: Steve understands this music at its deepest levels and he made the wise choice.

Interesting what they both say about collaboration v. working solo. I think Neal is more lucky these days in that the bands he works with seem to collaborate well together. I don't think Steve had that joy in Genesis , at least regarding song-writing. Anyway, a great chat. I think this is the one some of us have been waiting for . Thanks Neal and Steve.

If it weren't for Mr. H. (and his brother), I would never have gotten 'on board' with volume swells, polyphonic guitar synths, or 'oblique guitar playing' in general! I owe a LARGE portion of my love of electric guitar to this guy!

Its OH so bad that Steve and Steve didn't do more with GTR. "When the heart rules the mind" was such a great mix of prog and pop, it reminded me of something like what Rush would do, minus Geddy's iconic vocals. Its a bummer. You never hear anyone cover it, either. Its such a unique song.

I hear that Steve's next project with his band will be "Seconds Out", I'm hoping that is not the case...Instead, he should cover "Trespass" and "Nursery Cryme" both in their entirety, and maybe "The Lamb..." at some point. As for this interview...I'm really tired of zoom calls that freeze and falter, you miss a lot of dialogue, but did I notice red wine with a water chaser?

@@anthonyfarshaw8619 Yeah, I know Steve didn't play on Trespass, but it would be very interesting to hear his current band recreate the music, and just think of Nad covering Visions of Angels and Dusk/Stagnation. I guess if they do Seconds Out, we'll get their version of White Mountain.

@@booshting3520 Sorry, I can't go down that road with you, Steve was long gone by "Invisible Touch", and even though he wasn't there for "Trespass", that album provided a framework for the direction Genesis would subsequently take, and Steve fit that mold beautifully.
