This is the version from the Metallica Blacklist album (30th anniversary of the Black album). Alessia Cara and The Warning collaborated on the studio version. Metallica told them to rearrange it. They said they didn't care if it was turned upside down or played backwards. Alessia recorded in Canada, and The Warning in Mexico, all within 10 days. The Explorer that Dany is playing here is the one that was gifted to her by Lzzy Hale last year when they toured together. Their straight cover of Enter Sandman , at ages 14,12, and 9, is one of the videos they posted for family and friends, and it went viral. Metallica saw that cover, with Kirk saying that the drummer kicked maximum a$$.
@@fredfreddy2338 I’m aware of all that and it’s 25 million views on the 2014 video. But they weren’t playing it live until they remade ES for the Blacklist Album in 2021 as a completely different animal.
Locura is Spanish meaning craziness. It's one of TW's favorite words to describe the Rock'n'Roll world they are in. Metalica's instructions to all the bands for the Blacklist Album was to take the song lyrics and rework the song around them in any way they wanted. TW and Alessia Cara did the best job of that IMHO. Alessia was approached to do the song but she balked at the offer saying she knew nothing about doing Rock or Metal. She's a Pop singer. But she shares the International Management company with TW and they connected them with one another and suggested a collaboration. So, in the midst of the Covid Lockdowns Alessia in Toronto connected with TW in Monterrey and they came up with this arrangement, recorded it remotely, and had David Bendeth do the final mix of it - all told from soup to nuts the process took 10 days, seven days for the actual recording process. As TW would say, Locura!
the ONLY real downside is that Alessia, having had to be remotely captured, is being almost "forgotten" with each view of the TW live performances. I know she is acknowledged at the concerts and its her backing them, sometimes her video images even, but, in this case, "remote" really is remote. The song is an absolute masterpiece, so much so that when i hear the original i automatically compare, and Metallica doesn't quite come up the TW.
To be fair, there’s 2 versions of the Blacklist version. The OMV and TW’s live version not counting the original cover. They do acknowledge Alessia and use her backing vocals but I believe that part of the deal of doing this project was that TW could play it live as they saw fit and they un pop-ified the live version. Even when Alessia joined them onstage to perform they did a more rock-n-roll version.
Sometimes I think Dany has no idea what an amazing performer she is. That lady and Ale and Pau just astonish me every time. You have to see them live gents, I have once and I'm going again in Nov in Mexico. To see them on their home turf must be epic, I'll find out.
After a minute of this video I thought, did they see the official music video for this? So I paused the video and checked their channel and no, they hadn't. So I buckled in for what I figured would be an epic reaction and they didn't disappoint. Real musicians who have reacted to this "remake" are always blown away by the creativity and the live performance of this song. For completeness they should watch the original music video to see how they incorporated Alessia Cara's pop vocals into the song. This performance strips most of that away but you can still hear Alessia's voice on some of the backing tracks.
Welcome to the Teatro Metropolitan concert! All of the songs have this mix, this light show. All are good. My personal favorites: Disciple, Choke, Martirio, Dust to Dust, I could go on... No bad songs, pick whichever (starting with Disciple).
Not sure any of us were ready for this when it came out. But geez they totally flipped the script on this one for sure. So glad you like this one so much. And to think, they did the entire thing in 10 days. Enter Sandman is certainly one of those songs you cannot get away from. I have to admit, I am not a Metallica fan, and I was sick of this song, until this version came along. A lullaby where Alessia very sweetly puts you to bed, then Dany rouses the troops, shares a little prayer, and the angel chorus comes to sing you to sleep, then Boom, the hammer drops. I think of this very much as the female version of the tale. So good. Delicate, powerful, soothing, strong, gentle, fierce-all at the same time. I love this one. The OMV with Alessia is good to watch. Live this one hits like a truck. First time I saw it performed, I was second row right in front of Ale's 8x10 fridge. At the "sleep with one eye open" when she drops down and rips the B-string took my breath away. I also never knew I needed the drum line for this song in a half-time shuffle. Yeah, breaking the mold for sure.
Yep, u wanna hear some nice vocals and i think, one of their best songs, check this out, "revenant" from the same show. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oqXcNOVmcjc.html
Guys, just one word - Evolve! Yes, you've reacted to it before (the music video), but the live version from this Teatro concert is crazy good and will blow your collective minds! 😂 Including Pau's now famous Scream of Destruction. Here's a link (only released a couple of weeks ago) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WhgxFlQLY2Y.html
The answer to your question about which song(s) from the Metropolitan Theatre to play is - yes! Play the entire concert at your pace. There was a little extra something something in the ladies performance(s) not to mention the professional audio and video. Absolutely Locura! I’m surprised you guys didn’t comment on what Ale was doing with her bass during the breakdown part of this song. It took me several watches of the video to catch it myself and I thought it was cool is all.
I can tell you guys are going to be watching this one again. Needless to say it stands up to repeated listening. This version has it's genesis in the official music video with Alessia Cara. I'm sure its been mentioned do i won't repeat. Thanks. Every song from the Teatro Metropolitan concert hits like this. The whole concert is next level.
Great Reaction Guys! If you haven't listened to the song Revenant from this same concert, it is a must! They have one of their guest musicians, Dany on Acoustic and Pau singing! Pau's voice will blow you away as well as Ale's and Dany's background vocals!
Great reaction -- had a feeling that you would both enjoy it and grasp how much they remade it! And you took my word for it: clever! And somewhat courageous - to make such a drastic remake and submit it where you know for a fact that Metallica will definitely be reviewing it?!? But hey if your gonna go for it, go for it, don't half @$$ it Kinda wonder what the other artists that covered Enter Sandman thought when they heard this.....
The brief from Metallica was to have fun with it. Turn it upside down, inside out, whatever they wanted, just preserve the lyrics. They certainly made it their own. They stretched it farther than any of the other versions on the album
When doing a cover of a song that absolutely didn't need another cover THIS is how you do it. Completely deconstructed and completely avoiding one of the most iconic riffs in metal history and then giving it to you in the breakdown
Check out their Foo Fighters cover of “ Pretender “ when they were much younger , I like it more than the original !!!.. everything these girls do is amazing !!!
@angelseda9823 same here! I also prefer TW's covers of Hysteria and The Resistance by Muse as well. But love the Foos and Muse too! Strength and honor! 💪🎖😁
@@brentkelsay3439 .. their cover of Resistance is one of my favorites , I listen to it often .. Pau’s drumming is flawless !!!.. strength and honor my friend !!!
🤘⚡🤘 It used to be Survive from the 2017 Ted Talk, that I used to intro friends to them with. Now This video at the City Theater of ES, is played after that one. Playing Live is their superpower! This entire 21 song show is simply amazing. The HD/HQ recording, and the amazing edit from the crew of HD cameras, was just superbly done. The actual film is in 8.8K, which RU-vid will never get even half of that quality. Same with the audio bit rate. For that reason, I hope they put this historic concert on BluRay Disc, or at the very least, offer the high bit rate audio on a download. Just a bit of info to help you as you go with these videos...... They all wear Black the first half of the show, take an intermission while they play Pau's song "Breathe" for the audience, as they all change to White, for the 2nd half of the show. It will keep your perspective balanced, if you know the timeline of the entire show. They played to a full house on a Friday (Aug 26th), then another full house on a Monday (Aug 29th). Both recorded professionally. Both shows, have their own special performances, with a few guest performers. If you don't know, CDMX is for Mexico City, MEX. You will see it used for many other concerts they did across the city. Locura!! 🤪
Isn't this spectacular, though? This to me is Enter Sandman. Absolutely brilliant, very risky -- if they didn't do a great job, it might have caused them a lot of damage -- and perfectly executed. Definitely done The Warning way, with their vocal richness and harmonies, the buildups, and the powerful, abrupt ending. The other thing I've noticed with the riff at the end is that Pau isn't simply setting the beat, she's playing the melodic line much of the time on her toms and kick. "Yep, we can play Enter Sandman the original way too, but even that we're going to do our way". In the MV, Pau did the recitative, with a distinctly eerie sound (and visual), vs. James Hetfield's creepy recitation. Apparently Pau had difficulty doing that live because it was too different from the drum pattern, so Dany does it (although I believe Ale did it once). Dany originally did it with a tone of desperation, even panic, but it has evolved into an an angry, defiant challenge over time. But my favorite section is the hush little baby buildup, starting ever so gently but ending in a fury. "Pau cam" refers to being able to see her play; it's normally mounted to the side, above, or rear/side. Sometimes she mounts her phone behind her and records the entire concert from that spot. It was hard to tell from this video, but Dany and Ale cross over on stage during the riff (I suppose so Dany fans can get some Ale face time and vice versa), and when they cross back at the end, they usually give each other a quick high five. They really are proud of this, justly so.
Thanks guys! From what I can tell, you have done "Animosity" and "Martirio" from the Teatro Metropolitan performance. Although you have done the official music videos of "Choke," "Disciple," and "Evolve," the Teatro Metropolitan performance is definitely something you need to see. Essentially, any song you pick to react to from that performance works for me. They all are so beautifully performed and produced.
I don't follow the Warning as closely as many people do, but I had heard many of their previous songs like their original cover of Sandman, Evolve, Choke, Disciple, etc. I took a break for a bit, but when I heard this performance of Enter Sandman recently, I was absolutely shocked by how much better that they'd gotten. I was also in awe of the growl in Dany's singing. I had no idea I needed it. It's so fucking awesome!!! This concert for real ruined the studio versions for me because they just sound a bajillion times better live.
Lzzy was paying forward what someone else did for her in their early days. I think it's a pretty safe bet that Dany will happily do the same for someone else down the road. It's the kind of person she is (all of them, really).
To be honest with you I have been following them for more than 4 years, I love all the old clips and movies that their dad took. But they are so damn good and so tight it makes me cry sometimes, Of course being an old 71 year old freak Give me a pass on the crying part.. The first time that I saw them do a cover of Enter SandmanOver 4 years ago strictly blew me away they were little people playing big people songs it was not natural it was heavenly. I strictly love the way you guys break it down I love your reactions I can tell that you are music thru and throughSo all I can say to you is. Peace out brothers☮️☮️☮️
The guitar Dany is using here has significance too. It is a Gibson Explorer gifted to her on stage by Lzzy Hale. Lzzy said when she was starting out someone did the same for her and she wanted to pass the buck to someone she felt was destined for great things.
The original video to this song was my introduction to The Warning and I had exactly the same reaction to you guys, so blown away that I checked out all their catalogue. Ridiculous talent
Awesome reaction guys! You nailed EXACTLY how I felt the first time I heard their remake of ES. Absolutely incredible. The vision and creativity required to imagine and then execute this version is staggering. The risk they took was also incredibly high. If they missed their mark it could have been devastating for them but Metallica asked that they do something different and they delivered in epic style...in a week!
She's playing the guitar Izzy Hale gave her last summer. Alessia Cara is the oohs. You have to react to the video they made with Alessia Cara. They played in Toronto on Sunday and Ale sang two songs.
I can't even imagine the anxiety they must have felt, taking one of Metallica's most iconic songs and rewriting it. I think it is time for Metallica to ask The Warning to open for them.
@@Chuckles.. I am not sure about that one. Metallica loves this version. It would be cool to get both in the same evening. And Metallica is so seasoned that they can probably make something fun out of it, maybe spice up their version with some TW parts.
Hello Chris and Sam, good news regarding TWA. Great news The Warning 'Sick' is on Billboard Mainstream Rock Airway at #11. June 01, 2024. Hell Yeah!!! Javier R. San Diego, CA
This is one of the few GREAT things that came out of the Covid crisis. Thats how I found out about The Warning. I spent all my time watching videos from so many bands & artists I had never heard of. With that I was also introduced to RU-vid Music Reactions. I am 66, retired, and so thankful to see the REAL Rock & Roll I remember is alive and well, and will be in good hands for many more years to come, with the evolution of bands like The Warning. Not only are they UBER Talented... these ladies, and their family are such good people. I hope they always remain the humble, hard working, accessible artists they are known to be. Viva La Mexico!! P.S. Great reaction Offset Era!!🤓🤞🤘🔥
Great reaction, you always get amazed with this girls. I suggest react to "Survive" in a tandem, the version of TEDX live and the Metropolitan live version, you will blow your mind to see de growth they have, but the energy its amazing. Saludos desde México!
Seriously, I've interviewed and written about many bands, and few give me goosebumps. When Dany, one of nicest humans on Earth, starts ripping down and dirty, I get shivers. She's so fucking amazing. A few more years, and calling her the reincarnation of Grace Slick will seem spot-on.
When Metallica asks you to do a cover and do it any way you want... and you are The Warning... Greatness is gonna happen! That is why this is the 1st song on Metallica's Black List album, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Black album.
As someone who cut their teeth on legendary bands of the sixties and seventies, in the sixties and seventies, these young ladies kick ass. Oh that's the guitar Lzzy Hale gave Dany when toured with Halestorm. Here they are 9 years ago ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1boUYB9LFJY.html
Brilliant version of this song by the sisters, BTW the guitar Dany is playing was given to her by Lizzy Hale. Don't forget a new Babymetal song with Tom Morello is coming this Friday, I'm looking forward to a reaction on that one 🦊🤘
The official video is slightly different. Watch it also. You can get the Alessia Cara part. (Canadian POP and R&B artist). She has only sung this song with TW. Only live once..
The OMV for this, released in Sept. 15:03 2021, is definitely worth a view as well. Due to pandemic travel restrictions, Alessia Cara had to appear as a projection, but they and their team pulled it off masterfully.
I love that Dany plays the Gibson gifted to her by Lzzy Hale to play a cover of an iconic Metallica song endorsed by James Hetfield. They've been anointed as the heirs to the throne from two generations of rock royalty.
Hey Guys! I knew you guys would love this! It is FIRST track on the Metallica Blacklist Album. Actually Metallica invited Grammy-winning Canadian Pop singer/songwriter Alessia Cara to do a remake for the Blacklist Album. She shares the same International Management company (21 Entertainment) as The Warning. So, Chris Smith, CEO of 21 Entertainment suggest she collaborate with The Warning. This was during Covid, The Warning had never done a collaboration and Alessia Cara had never done a rock song. Oh, and they had 8 days to make the publishing deadline for the album. hahaha. So, Legendary Producer Matt Squire, flew from LA to Monterrey, MX to work with The Warning, and Alessia worked with them via Zoom. They stripped the song to its core, and rewrote it as a Pop song, then Rockified (Warnified ) it, into a Rock song!! Then they had their Producer David Bendeth Mix it, and it made the deadline in 8 days! Watch the official video, it is AMAZING!!! You hear some of Alessia's vocals on the backing tracks during their live performances. Alessia did perform the song once with The Warning at The Troubadour in LA.
Here is the link to disciple Pau (drummer) angelical vocals in the middle of the song is nuts ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Wo0odllVq8g.html
Al paso de las reacciones se nota como fueron adquiriendo un respeto hacia The Warning y ellas se lo merecen totalmente por su talento , disciplina y amor por lo que hacen . 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
