Had a musky on the line once as a kid. I remember clearly my dad and grandpa holding me in the boat lol. Didn’t take long for the line to snap. One of my best childhood fishing memories. Would love to actually catch one. Great video guys!
Great video. I totally agree with the confidence tip. I like rubber swim baits, so I have the most confidence in them, which has translated into swim baits being my most effective.
I fish for musky all the time . I fish the black river in Wi . For me I have always had better luck with live sucker minnows . The bigger the better . I put them on a large bobber and let them work . Where I fish i usually get a fish on almost every night in the fall . Lol that doesn’t mean I get it in . I have been fishing for musky for over 30 years and I have only caught two that was over 40in the biggest was 46 . I have had some on that I think would have been over 50 but never gotten them in . Give live bait a try .
+Doug Kichman That certainly can and will happen with these crazy fish. There are times when a smaller bass sized presentation is just the ticket. Hopefully you catch a few this year on musky gear. Good luck fishing.
Would be nice. I try to target the same general areas where I catch them by accident, but that doesn't seem to help. Last year I caught 23 by accident and 4 intentionally. Biggest one being 38" on a 1/4 oz swim jig.
That’s how Jeremy wade caught his first after over 10,000 casts with a Muskie rig. Several friends got their biggest ones on small bait. That makes me wonder if they see the heavy line and leader.
if you want to get into it with low investment. use your frogging caster with buchertail. it's pretty good start. I've caught musky on #2 mepps on a med-light rod. you don't need to have a bunch money sunk into gear.
For all your musky fishing needs I highly recommend checking out the Rhino Outdoors website. Great lures for a great price and have always came with a hand writing thank you
Thank you for tips. I love musky fishing but have struggled the past few years to find them. Any tips for lakes with a lot of boating traffic in summer?
Look for spots off the beaten path and even open water can hold fish if the traffic allows. If it's just pleasure boat traffic then fish spots like normal. Musky anglers are far more bothered about boat traffic than the fish are. Once I caught a musky trolling open water with the bait running only about 5' down. A jet ski had run almost right over the top of it shortly before it got hit. Good luck fishing
I’ve never caught a Muskie I found a spot where Muskie where caught and it has weeds but after 2 seconds of reeling in my bait gets on weeds so I use a spinner instead of a big jerbait is that right ?
Do you have any recommendations for beginner musky rod and reel setup for casting? I was thinking about a st. Crioux mojo musky rod 8’6 heavy paired with a Tranx or REVO toro reel
+Machinegunkuzzy 16 I would say the St Croix and either reel would be a great setup. I personally like the Tranx 400 better than the Revo. Both are good options though. Good luck fishing
Got to be Musky nuts!!! 30 hrs casting this year with only 3 follows.. No strikes!!! Love to hate em" great video, great info... #justkeepcasting --- 715 Central Wisconsin 715 ---
I live in Musky central and just started fishing for them last year. No action on casting, just suckers ( but never landed one ! ). I spent many many hours casting last year and this year with no results.. then last weekend I caught two and my wife also caught two in a matter of about 45 minutes.. Just keep at it
+AcousticSoul1989 I would think that it would especially if the seats fold down in the back to access the trunk. Your other option would be to get a telescopic rod but I think that only gets you down to 7’ 6” I believe. Thanks for the question let us know if you have others.
+Clarence Cremeans I wonder if it is a one time issue. I watched the whole thing again to check and had no issues. Thank you for bringing it to our attention I'll keep checking it.
You meet a ton of great people …. In my area most of the regular fisherman are great. But for some reason all the musky only guys are assholes and think they own the water .
