I actually agree with the girl in the beginning Because "men and women can't be friends" is a blanket statement. But depends how you define friends 1. Like the guy said (his wife was also friends with his female friends) 2. Acquaintances at work or school/Masjid (when you work/volunteer together on projects often in a professional setting for a bigger goal), then mostly no. Unless you're attracted to them 3. If the way you define friends is they specifically hangout together, ( a man and a woman) individually hanging out, then no. If you're friends with someone who is part of a larger group and you're always hanging out with them, then that's fine 4.. but if you were friends growing up, then one of them is bound to catch feelings and think about you in a certain way during some periods of their life

No, young college/university age male and female students just cant be friends, theres always deeper feelings/attraction.

I think you can be distant friends, as in, not really "friends", but more people that can get along well, for example: colleagues or someone you see and speak to only a few times, such as a friend of your own friend. Also, of course, big difference if other colleagues or friends are around or not. And friendships on social media between male and female are possible too, because people often don't even know your gender and you don't know theirs. Like, I can befriend another RU-vid channel, but how would we know each other's gender unless we tell it...? (And I rarely ever do that, so yeah.) Obviously, digital friendships are different, because you're not actually together at one place and don't know each other personally. As for close friends in real life: no, I don't think a guy and a gal could be "just friends". Maybe the gal won't have feelings for him, but the guy most likely has for her (sure there might be exceptions, but that's a rare minority of the cases and even this minority is probably mainly the result of modern society trying to break men) and then it might be just because of respect and decency and/or fear of getting rejected that he won't try anything. But the fact that such feelings are provoked nevertheless is just natural, but it could lead to ending up in dangerous situation and/or sinning and that's why islam forbids it. And I completely understand and agree with that.
