Idolatry was common in Middle east amongst arabs and at times jews who did not follow properly. Lot of idolatry from indus river was exported to modern day Iraq. Conceots like the trinity went farther but they were modified in each civilization to suit the cultures. Different prophets who taught basically Islam or oneness of God were warners against these idolatry systems because the ancient versions for oppresive and required sacrifice of babies and other rituals to make humans do filthy things to become inferior. Some of those Hindu idols may have made it Saudi because they believed in everything, it was their business.

I don't believe his parents were pagan, and even if they had the wrong understanding of God or believed in pagan Gods, and named their son Muhammad bc they wanted him praised by God, it doesn't mean that a pagan God or their false understanding of God now exists and is praising Muhammad.
