When I visited my family in Iraq back in the summer of 1980, one afternoon I observed my grandmother making watermelon rind jam from scratch. Everything she made was from scratch. I was able to quickly lose the freshman 15 I gained from my first year of college before that visit simply by spending the summer there and enjoying my grandmothers home made food with lots of fruits and vegetables. Bye the way, the jam was delicious!
My digestive system had been problematic for a long time and finally I became blocked and perforated. I came home from the hospital in 2022 with an ostomy. NOW, I can eat pretty much anything w/o blockage! Since regaining muscle control, balance, and stamina, I've become much more attuned to what I eat. I'm grateful for all the help I've received from all the health care professionals that have been so positive and helpful. I haven't eaten meat or sugar or simple carbs (for the most part) in 7 months. No processed food either. I walk every day, drink lots of water, and eat lots of produce. Things are much better in the digestive department! No meds for anything! I'm 76 and going strong, if not a little pompous about it.
@@dyskover I am going through a continuous bout of diverticulitis and am in my mid 60s. I have been a vegetarian for 53 years. I just go home from 11 days in the hospital. The nurses were great but the Drs really don't know much. I am home and still in pain. Been going on for 3 months and I have been treated with every antibiotic and opioids. I don't drink alcohol, or sugar or processed foods. I have to still wait till Oct. for a colonoscopy. I have lost 30 lbs cuz I am in pain when I eat. The worst part is the anxiety cuz I know the gut brain connection is real. I am doing everything to keep myself calm. I don't know how you lived thru it.
@@marthasimons7940 That you've been a vegetarian for most of your life and still are having such a problem is kind of surprising to me. I wonder if you've had surgery? I know that the first time I was in the ICU with a blockage I should have been more amenable to an operation, but I hung in there with anti-biotics and finally walked out of the hospital. The next time, 11 yrs later, I was too far gone physically and it took me months to rehab my musculature, balance, even my hearing had suffered but has recovered since re-routing my colon and eliminating part of it. I wish you well.
Jackfruit is much easier to open when u firstly smear cooking oil onto your knife to avoid the sap from sticking to it. Besides the sweet pods, u can also eat the seeds by first boiling it with a little salt with the skin on. Once boiled, use a knife to peel off the tough skin. The boiled seed is eaten as is or with your salad. Enjoy.
Jack fruit?!?!! Wow-wee! I’ve heard it tastes absolutely fantastic! I’m going to have a go at this. Thank you so much for showing us all this! How exciting! 🎉
They are amazing. Make sure to oil your knife and use gloves or oil your hands as well. Of course, spread out some old newspapers or any old flyers on the counter before cutting jackfruit. It contains sticky sap which is a pain to remove. However the fruit is absolutely delicious and worth all that pain. Edit: don’t throw away the seeds. Wash them and let them dry out on the counter. Remove the dry skin that forms and roast the seeds. They are amazing as well.
There's a smaller version of jackfruit called cempedak, in South-East Asia, like Thailand, Malaysia, etc, that tastes even better. If we were lucky, the local goreng pisang (fried banana) stall would have it.
There's plenty of jack fruit in my country Sri Lanka, but never knew all these time that it's so nutritional. From tomorrow onwards i'm going to enjoy it. Thanks for this eye opener.❤
I certainly appreciate all the efforts, consistency, love, and knowledge that you put into all of your videos. Thank you so much for sharing with us some of your most valuable time! Much love and appreciation always ❤
This video is amazing, so much important information and points you make, not just this video but all your videos. Please keep them coming! I look forward to every video you do.
This is the ultimate, authoritative guide to selecting a watermelon. Nothing else like it anywhere. Plus, you threw in jackfruit advice as well as fruit vs. vegetable clarity. Amazing. Thank you!
Eating more fruit is what I need for bowel health. Thank you for showing us how to purchase, cut, cook, eat, and store the jackfruit. How much is the fiber’s fruit reduced after cooking? For instance, eating a fresh apple gives me a tummy ache, but I can easily processed a baked apple (no sugar).
Next one try cut vertically and remove the centre part, so you can remove all the fruits easily. And apply oil to the knives or whatever you used to cut. Less messy.
To cut jackfruit, I put a liitle coconut oil on my knife, so it doesn't get sticky with the latex from the skin. I grow jackfruit in Florida. I harvest them young to make vegan "meat" and ripe for the fruit alone.
Surprise they can grow in FL. Which part of the fruit is used for vegan meat. How can the tree branch hold several fruits on a single stem, each one weighing 30-50lbs.
@@Just_forfun9140 I have several trees that are 30 years old. Lots of branches. The young green jackfruit are used to make mock meat. I pick them when they are the size of a papaya , cut them and steam them, then use them in a curry or shredded in a BBQ sauce.
My doctor found a pre cancerous cyst on my pancreas. It really scares me. Sad that something medically has to happen before most of us take action with their health. Well better late than never. I'm eating beans everyday. I put all the color peppers in it along with onions. My digestive system is full of inflammation. I'm hoping the cyst is smaller when I go back to the doctor in months. No more meat and more beans, fruits and veggies.
THANK YOU SO MUCH Dr. Liu for your dedication to teach us about health and nutrition. You go above and beyond - tackling a giant jackfruit live! A million thank you for clearing the air about eating too much sweet fruit is bad for insulin sensitivity n diabetic causing. Din kw more fruit helps in cholesterol lowering too. ❤❤ Kudos for ur works, so well researched n explained. One of the best. 😊
Jaca!!! I love it! When I was a child, I helped mom remove the fruits. Very sticky, I used oil on my hands. The seeds can also be cooked to make marron glacé.😂😂😂
I love your videos! I am 54 and really concerned about longevity. I have health issues and I am trying to take on some healthier habits. Thank you for your content!
Watermelon starts at 23:00 I’ve never seen a Jackfruit and I dont have a car to transport it. Watermelon is heavy enough to carry home on foot.
Thanks Dr. Liu for all the info. on the fruits. I ❤ fruit! The biggest fruit I've had is watermelon. I'll have to try the Jack fruit sometime. Thanks again! 👍🌝
Dear doctor, My digestive system is working much better since I am following your tips. Thank you soooooo much! You are the best.❤❤❤❤❤ May I ask you if you could please make a video about how to get healthy lungs.
I tend to have my fruits around breakfast or between meals. I always wondered if it was okay to eat fruit after a meal that was high in protein, fats as well as starch. What do you think? For example, would it be okay to have fruit right after a grain bowl, that has tofu, legumes, steamed greens, and an avocado slice? I just feel like the fruit should be eaten at the beginning of a meal due to the fact it digests quickly or on is own a not with any meals (other then breakfast oatmeal). I would love to learn your thoughts on that. Thank you.
I’ve been watching your channel now for the last couple of nights don’t know what to do I don’t sleep at nights because I’ve been having discomfort right at the tip of my stomach in the middle of my breast and sometimes under my breast and sometimes a dull pain on my left side of my upper back and this is keeping awake it’s like am going crazy because I need sleep I sometimes fell weakness in my legs, my cholesterol is also very high, my rheumatologist called me on some blood work that my liver enzymes is low and so is my white blood cell so I need to see a Hemathologist, I am hoping I can get a quick appointment and there’s things I can do to get healthy
This is exactly my deterrent with squash... I like the various kinds of squash, yet the skin is so hard I feel like I'm going to end up cutting my fingers off trying to split one open before cooking. So... when I get squash it usually ends up rotting and I never use it.
Cant wait to try this someday. Hey I was wondering if you could cover foods or meals if you have Gastroparesis. The diet for that is very limiting. Dr recommend low to no-fiber foods or something called B.R.A.T.(Bread, rice, applesauce, and toast) Mostly bland foods and the categories provided arent nutrient dense to my limited knowledge. Im just looking for something to support me through this journey. Thank you for your awesome work I watch all your videos!
Well that's a very non derm doctor thing to say about retinoids.. But retinoids are great and they're very efficient..they can irritate your skin but when that phase is over your skin ages a slower..
Hello I wanted to thank you for the amazing videos, I was wondering if you can talk us through CRICKET POWDER and if it is ok to take as a protein supplement
Yes but you need to be aware of the glycemic index of your fruits and veggies Choose items that have a lower glycemic index number. Watermelon is a mid level on the index, so eat in moderation.
Remember to walk at least 10 minutes after any meal. I have a friend who also uses cinnamon to help lower or prevent spikes. You should see a difference in spike with these hacks.
I wish you would have actually boiled some jackfruit seeds so we can see what they ook like done. Also, can any of the surrounding fiber of the jackfruit be eaten?
Genesis 1 God made vegetation to serve as food for man and animal....If you do not value the joy and blessing of gardening....then at least prepare fresh garden vegetables from a local gardener...make friends with a local gardener support their good work...eat from Gods earth garden...
I’m going to discontinue this site it’s gone over the top instead of just simple info which was very personable now it’s become fashionable and overdone sorry😢
