I have limited knowledge of Jira, so your video is awesome ! 😀 I've recently joined a company who are relatively new to using Jira and each technical team use it in slightly different ways. The Infrastructure lead is a very keen advocate, although, coming from a software project background, I have not gotten my head around how it fits with infrastructure projects. The infrastructure lead, is also using Jira for the following and I wondered Is any of this a valid use of Jira ? #1. using it to capture meeting actions, even from meetings not associated with any project, such as a weekly management meeting. #2. started putting project risks into Jira and linking back to the RAID log Many thanks for any advice

There is a lot of confusion as to when a story or task is “done”. Usually a story will require development, unit testing, QA, and a stakeholder review (for user acceptance). In some organizations UAT is usually done by members not in the scrum team before business acceptance is given or signoff. Completing all these steps in a 2 week sprints is very difficult. When do you consider a story/task “done”?
@ScrumMastered
@ScrumMastered 11 месяцев назад
That would be for the development and product teams to define in collaboration. Highlight things that you'd want to be able to do within 1 sprint but currently can't. For example, as you say, UAT. What needs to happen in order to bring this item inside of the sprint? Do we need to automate some processes? Do we need a dedicated business person on the team who can do UAT? What else? So you may start with a very limited Definition of Done, but your goal is to expand it. But first have that conversation to set the right expectations around what Done actually means

Hi! Question, I use azure and we use epics and features... But in Jira I only see epics, is it that the only one available? Where can I put the story points for every item? Is there an estimation tool? There a way to create queries?
@ScrumMastered
@ScrumMastered Год назад
Jira only has 3 hierarchies: Epics, Tickets, and Sub-tasks. So I don't think you would be able to create the same organization as you have in Azure. That's why I often encourage using releases/version in Jira as an additional level of organization. Natively, Jira cannot roll up multiple epics and their estimations into one place. But I believe there are lots of plugins and apps that can help with that.
@boyesjeffrey
@boyesjeffrey 11 месяцев назад
@ScrumMastered Not true. In the base product, one can add many levels to the hierarchy. Above Epics, we use Initiatives, then Themes.
@ScrumMastered
@ScrumMastered 11 месяцев назад
@@boyesjeffrey I found this article explaining it: confluence.atlassian.com/advancedroadmapsserver0329/configuring-initiatives-and-other-hierarchy-levels-1021218664.html - basically Initiatives are not in Jira by default and it seems that you can only configure it with Advanced Roadmap features. I think most teams operate on a generic Jira instance.

Hello, I have a question, if I want to see the percentage of progress of the project and the number of hours and cost that the project has had, can it be seen in JIRA? I currently manage it in Google Sheets, but the company I am in is considering changing to JIRA but I am not sure if JIRA satisfies these functions that I particularly require, does anyone know?
@ScrumMastered
@ScrumMastered 8 месяцев назад
@user-ix1cu3gb9u, Jira is a workflow management and team collaboration tool more than anything. So it won't have any of that information. But I would ask whether you really need that much information. I can understand the cost of the project so far. Number of hours is basically just number of days * by number of people you have minus any holidays or vacation. This can be done via Sprint Reports. As for the % of the project completed - this metric is really useless in on its own. When you say project, you mean a set list of requirements that have been agreed upon in advance and will not change? If yes, you don't need Scrum. Just do waterfall. But if you are trying to understand the progress towards goals, then Jira has Release and Epic Burndown charts that can be helpful for forecasting if used correctly.

@icantfindausernamehe spreadsheets have lots of limitations when it comes to Product Backlog management, and I would never recommend anyone to use Excel for any work tracking. One of the biggest reasons is that it's very hard to reprioritize or split work in a spreadsheet - which is supposed to happen often. Tools like Airtable and Smartsheet are better, if you are very attached to spreadsheets. But just Excel is outdated.

@opmdevil
@opmdevil 3 месяца назад
@@ScrumMasteredWe can have sticky notes on the wall or any way we see fit. I've seen many cases where people insist that "we need to have a tool, without tool this cannot be done". Then I've seen situations where you can achieve the same without tools by just sticking to sticky notes and white cards. I guess some of these tools provide transparency outside of the team but transparency could be achieved some other ways as well. Why cannot you have just sticky notes on the wall? Why do you feel that you gotta have a tool? But then again, sticky notes and physical kanban baords are tools, so, I grant a point for you there, that you need a tool.
