As a Scot living in Scotland (on the NC 500) I love watching visitors' travel vlogs. It's fascinating to see and hear people's impressions of my country. Things I take for granted are often things others have never seen or even heard of before. For example, your reaction to the various livestock you encountered made me smile. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. As others have said, come back and do the far north and north west. It is beyond spectacular there. Thanks for showcasing my country so well.

Thank you so much for your kind words and feedback! We're guilty of it too, seeing others enjoy parts of Canada that we often take for granted. I supposed it's all about perspective. We had a memorable time in your country and hope we can experience more of her beauty next time!

Very true like yourself I am a Scottish,and it' is fun to watch and enjoy people from abroad who come to Scotland to feel the magic and cham of Scotland,things we Scotts take for granted as normal for us,the young lady was so sweet and charming you wanted to give her big Scottish hug,but the things she stated are very much true,we live huge towns with so many other people that we get so stressed out,as the saying goes,great things come in small bundles,the guy was funny,he could not believe he was seeing black sheep,i think he would have flipped if they were tartan,the look on the bulls face said it all ,he should have let out a very large MOO,the tourist would have freaked out of there wellies, I remembered telling some tourists to be aware of predatory Haggis that attacked and devoured tourist if they strayed from the path,as it was the mating season and male Haggis got very angry because they strayed from the path into the long grass and made a lot of noise ,I never seen so many tourists walking to quietly on their tiptoes to make sure that the male Haggis did not get disturbed and became aggressive,the poor tourists thought there life's were in great danger,I showed them some sheep's wool and told them that this poor sheep had been devoured by predatory haggis,the looks on the faces said it all,absolute horror,I also told them I would rather face a mountain lion as tangle with a haggis in the dark,I had never seen so many who want to get back to the hotel before darkness fell,if a rabbit had been seen they would have been of.

There are ring around bull’s noses so it can be used to control the bull. It is in their nose cause the more they move if you grab the ring the more it hurts so they can be controlled.

Also - i think you better stay away from that bull. Doesn't it mean they're aggressive and the ring is used to move the cattle around? :D xx

Kudos for dealing with the temperamental Scottish weather, haha. As a Scot and a history student, I find it really admirable that you've really taken your time to find out a little bit about the places you're seeing. Our geography, history and folklore is some of the most beautiful and interesting the world has to offer. A little fun fact about the Giants Causeway! Legend has it that two giants in Ireland and Scotland had a little bit of a rivalry going on and the Irish giant built a bridge between the two nations, and went to challenge him to a dual. Scottish giant didn't anticipate how big he'd be and ran back to the Isla of Staffa, tearing away bits of the bridge to make sure the Irish giant couldn't follow him. Also! Scotland has 790 islands, all of which are absolutely beautiful. If you ever get the chance to come back, there's plenty more to visit. :)

I took the Fingal's cave boat about 25 years ago in similar weather, the boat played Mendelssohn's Hebridean Symphony as we approached Fingal's cave ( it was written about it) . It was such a moving moment I will remember it forever. I was in tears, so moved by the grandeur and ancientness of it all. We hired a wee cottage for a few years in Mull for holidays and got to know the islands well. Some folk used to say...' why do you holiday in Scotland? Isn't that a staycation?' and i always felt sad about what they were missing in their own country. thank you for the memories. xx

Why do ranchers wear button fly jeans? Shep run when they hear zippers.... :-) I believe the nose ring in animals is there for control. It's sensitive and the slightest pull (via rope) will control the animal...or a human if he has the nose ring...

MEOWWWWW couple of claws popped out there 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Me & my Husband will be there this time next week, I'm so excited as we've never been to Mull. We visit family in Killin as much as possible and have travelled as far as Glenfinnan to see the famous curved viaduct. Around every bend in the road leads to more beauty than I ever could imagine, and I've only seen 1% of Scotland. I would move to the west coast in a heartbeat! It's the most beautiful place in the world (imo) and I live in the peak district of England, that is a beautiful place to live.

Your films popped up on my recommendations glad they did. I am a Scot who has travelled and lived in many places but my homeland always pulled me back. The wanderlust is still there though. Iona is one of the most sacred religious places in Britain due to fact that St Columba made it his home and from there spread Christianity to Scotland converting many Kings from all over the land. The Scot's were originally a small Irish tribe that settled on the west coast of the country. By conquest and clever marriage they eventually became the most powerful tribe and the whole country is named after them. Many ancient Kings from Scotland and Ireland are buried on Iona though the Vikings did love to plunder it. Your film showed the Kelpies of Falkirk and I now live around a mile from them.

The rings through a bull's nose are used to control the animals when required. They do look scary but they tend to be very docile, most of the time. Oh and the cat - it was partly your indecisiveness that provoked the reaction, just clap the cat and it may have been fine. Saying that, it is a tortoise shell (=temperamental) so it may still have had a go at you just for the fun.
@Louisa93able
@Louisa93able 3 года назад
When farmers need to move their bulls from one place to another, they need a way of getting a powerful and potentially dangerous animal to cooperate. After all, if a bull pushes the farmer against a solid object like a fence or wall, the farmer will be crushed to death and horns can be dangerous as well. A bull can be fairly easily be led in the desired direction by pulling a rope attached to the ring in its nose, because its nose is sensitive enough to encourage the bull's cooperation.

The nose ring is for control. It's easier to control the animal when moving him around to other pastures for example. You put an rope in to the ring and he will follow you like a puppy. Have to take to consideration that it is a massive animal with tremendous power. You take care.

Very nice video, thankyou. I've tried twice to get to Staffa and each time the boat had to turn back. Third time lucky, maybe. One interesting thing that connects Tobermory and Tobermorey in Canada is that they are both towns where diving is a popular sport ( I have dived both!) There is also a Spanish galleon from the Armada sunk in the mud in Tobermory harbour, supposedly with up to £6 million of gold on it. Numerous attempts have been made to salvage it, but the mud is too thick. Tobermory is also famous for being the film location of the children's BBC tv series Balamorey

the bull nose ring is used to tame these animals. The circle tightens on the nose, which is very nerved in the bulls, so that it can later be attached to it with a cane, which is about a meter and a half long, and lead an animal. The bull, wanting to avoid the pain that causes the pressure, ceases to jerk his head and becomes calmer.
@eccosselion

I don't think you can tame a raging bull if it decides you are in it's way, 2 1/2 ton of muscle and you 12 stone in weight the big guy will win every time,tame is not part of the equation using your brains is,I am not being critical of your comment,I am only trying to give you good advise,that is why the little notice on the gate said beware of the bull🐂🐾🐾🐾😱💩💩.

That looks absolutely amazing! Also, while I do love small towns, I don't agree with the idea that the cities we have now are "too big". Without a concentration of resources and people, we wouldn't have some of the great medical and technological advancements we have today. That podcast wouldn't exist without the hyper-specialization of workers that gave them the technology and platform. I think everyone is different and if you want to live in a small town, that's great and the world does need small towns. But, I don't think the world would be the same without big cities. Speaking of which, when are y'all reaching Toronto?

It's nice to see the country through other peoples eyes, it makes you appreciate it more. The ring in the bulls nose is for a rope, so that you can move it (lead it by the nose).

Scotland feels like different planet. So much contrasting to what I'm used to.

You can lead a bull by the ring easier because its a tender part of the bull.

The ring in the bull's nose is to control it, especially when taken to shows.

I believe the ring in the bull's nose is so you can attach a line to it and lead him where you want him to go.

Felix Mendelssohn was so impressed after visiting Fingal's cave in 1829 that it inspired him to write the Hebrides Overture.

Hello again team,Did you know that D Trump mother😎👵 is from that neck of the woods you are visiting but don't let that bit of information spoil your visit to the Western Ilse of Scotland, the reason for all the rain and mist is the Gulf Steam🌊 that day you went on the boat to the cave the weather and the sea looked quite calm, you want to come back when it's really angry🚢,getting back to your trip,yes she is totally correct in what she said about big city's full of lots of people, life is a lot nicer and better in smaller communities, that is the basis of the clan system and close knit communities, the same system applies to the native American's the red Indians ,they are small units but very self sufficient who strive for the common good of the unit or tribe / clans,.If you get a chance and want to learn more about that part of Scotland,get books and read about the Highland and Islands Clearances, where people from these small communities where forced of there land at the point of English guns and bayonets,that is the reason you find lots of people in Canada and the USA and very much so New Zealand of Scottish decent ,New Zealand is Scotland in the Southern Hemisphere because of great number Scotts,these people were hardworking people who get on well with the indigenous peoples of the country they went to,because they understood how hard things could be for the indigenous population who lived their before they arrived,the same goes for the Irish people left there native Ireland and settled in the USA,one of my kinsman who was born in the same place as myself went to the USA and became the father USA conservation John Muir, an other well know Scott is Andrew Carnage, Henry Ford was of Irish decent ,they all came from small rural communities they came to North America and helped lay the foundation stones of the USA and Canada, a name gives away where they were from Nova Scotia the province in Canada says it all ,it means New Scotland, it was very perceptive of the young lady to mention about small communities and how they thrive better than large communities in the fulfilment and quality of there lives, she comes across as a very bright and sensitive and caring person. l look forward to chatting again with you both, take care and God bless, and have a good 🎄🎅🎇🎉🎊 Christmas and a better New Year 2019🌂☔🐂🌊🚢🍷🍷🎆🎆. The reason for the ring in the🐂 nose is that they can be led and controlled easier if become a bit bostrious when being move.🐂🐾🐾💩💩😣.That is the reason that Scotsmen wear a kilt,so that they can run faster than Englishman and a tourist being chased by a Scottish bull with there trousers down.

You don't know what's on the bucket list until you actually go. Soooo true . Any traveling people know the best things are the ones you never knew about until you turned a corner a thought WOW look at this . I've been traveling Europe these last 4 years but go home to Scotland for Christmas in 15 days . Can't wait for fish and chips , red , black , white and Haggis puddings , a cold pint of the big red T and some of mums Christmas food . Some morning rolls and a two week Christmas / new year party . Then off on the travels again. Love these Scotland vids to cheer me up about coming home for a visit .
