Join us, Carol & Ken, on our latest adventure on the Isle of Wight in our little red Nissan NV200 campervan. In this video we meet some really cute donkeys, have trouble finding a park up and discover probably the best curry on the island. We also answer the question we are asked the most about travelling in such a small space.
If you would like to support us to make more videos, the easiest way is to buy us a coffee.

Cockroach 🤣loved the Donkies. Pleased that little fella was OK❤. Can’t beat a jolly good role in the dust. Breakfast looked good. When you called Dora it woke our Luna up! Think she though you were calling her 😂. Of course you can talk to donkies ( and dogs!) nice walk around the house. The gloomy weather added to the atmosphere. Very creepy. Pleased Carol didn’t know it was haunted! Oh Ken -Just a small curry then 😉. Looked delish. love Ventnor. Really enjoyed this 👍

I first went to the IoW many, many moons ago (I was 11) on a school trip for a week. Coming from London by coach, going on a ferry and then on a train to Sandown and last of all another coach to our hotel in Sandown was to my young mind the most exciting thing ever. I have been back a few times since but have to admit I have never heard of Appledurcombe House. Will definitely give it a visit if I ever visit the island again.

Can you talk to donkeys? Well yes of course you can. I bet if you had asked Dora why the farmer called her that she would have replied "Why he aw he aw he aw he always calls me that" (oh dear, the old jokes are always the best) Loved the vid by the way! 😎😎😎👍

I was on the IOW last week. Went to the Donkey Sanctuary. I struggled to find parkups and ended up in quiet streets by the side of the road, some distance from where I wanted to be. Not so obvious in a car. It meant I walked a long way every day, which I didn't mind as I like map reading. There is free parking at Fort Victoria, not far from Yarmouth, with toilet facilities. Some van dwellers were there so I felt comfortable knowing I wasn't alone.

Another great vlog. Had hoped you would visit Ventnor, my home town many years ago, albeit i still return a couple of times a year. The work at the end if the car park is to rebuild the sea wall between ventnor and bonchurch, part of it collapsed many months ago. Very interesting to hear the comments re the Masala Bay, im pleased it seems to be doing well. Alot of steep hills in the town, the first you passed St Catherines School, i think its private and caters for children with speech difficulties. Thanks for a trip down memory lane

No not all donkeys have a cross marking on their backs. The marking depends on their genetic makeup and phenotypic trait. Having said that the majority of donkeys have this marking.

What a wonderful respite. And an equally wonderful sanctuary! There are a couple of islands on the Eastern side of the US that has wild horses left by the Spaniards back in the 16th century. There were more than there currently are but that’s all I am going to say about that. Also in the states, there are fools who believe that dogs were only recently domesticated and will be happy to join their brothers in the wild if you simply drop them off. That’s not true, of course, and with the exception of suggesting that tar and feathering has its place in this modern age, that’s all I will say about THAT, as well. Both comments lead to the question of what brought so many donkeys to an island off the shores of England? Are/were there wild herds of donkeys on the Isle of Wight? Are donkeys frequently dropped off by farmers with little or no understanding of basic physics who abandon donkeys in a field there when their refusal to carry 5 times their body weight is interpreted as stubbornness? Is the sanctuary a rescue that brings neglected and/or abused donkeys from the mainland for an easier life on the island or what other scenario might result in the sanctuary’s location removed from the mainland? Just one of many curious queries from the other side of the pond. Thanks!!!

Yes, I can speak Donkey! I was lucky enough to live by an acreage with a Donkey who I visited daily after work bearing carrots and apples. When we first met, Donkey bit me, and caused a horrid bruise that took over a month to heal. I lived there 13 yrs before moving and retirement. I have lovely photos of my friend. And paid for his Ferrier every four months. I still miss him terribly after 8 yrs. They are precious living creatures. Those nasty Italians turn them into sausage. Never go to Italy! Barbaric people! And from me, the ART LOVER! Never did go to Italy, simply disgusting practice! Horse meat, too! Horrible!
