You were able to share good ideas for people starting in pottery. The reason I began 12 years ago or so was to make pieces for work. We own a prop house and use tableware for photography. So I began pottery and I think progressed faster than normal because, like you said, I was motivated (I'd used to go to the pottery studio 5AM in the morning and then often 6PM after work--much less intense now!). So motivation like you said and copying work you admire. And your clay advice is important. Just this week I was struggling a bit with one porcelain clay because it was a bit too firm. I bought a bag of another porcelain clay to try and it was so good and then I felt like I could easily control the clay. (And now I am selling some of my pieces and that too is motivating!)

A good video. Copying: what can the difference between the original and your copy can tell you about your individual style? Sometimes the difference can be due to a lack of skill but other times it can tell you about your scale or preferences. (I've been working on copying a friend's teapot spout making technique. After making dozens of failed copies I've found a form that might work. It's quite different from his but I've found I like it. Now I need to practice more so I can get that shape consistently when I want to.)
