So if I take my $7000 65 I6 mustang and swap it to a $500 289 it's suddenly worth $65,000 because Gas Monkey says it is? I bought my 67 Cougar for $700 not running. Now because of these shows I can't get a rolling chassis donor car for less than $3,000.

So he didn’t exactly make $31,000 either, Barrett Jackson Georges an 8% commission to the seller and 10% buyers premium so he had to pay $12,800 to them out of his profit which means he made less than 20k that he had to split with old boy. So for all the high life he was living in the expenses of spending the week out there that probably means his profit was somewhere around 5K after expenses. And that doesn’t even count what he had to pay his help and the detailer and all that transport fees. He’s lucky if he broke even.

The 302 was light yellow and the 429 was grabber orange. Neither ran but they were complete. He wanted a lot for each (at the time 1984) but I left with the Camaro. Light yellow, dark green interior, 307, auto. Crager wheels and 26,000 original miles for $2,600. He also had a Sunbeam Tiger. Red, black and I think that was a 260 with a 4spd.

Yep, Richard should have known that if you do not put a reserve price on the car at auction, then the risk factor of taking a huge loss is always possible. I have seen an old man selling his dream car a original Shelby many years ago, with no reserve price and the final bid was almost &90000 less than what he thought he will get. He was so angry and told the auctioneers that they have scammed him and demanded his car back. Of course they said no and not even a good lawyer could convince the old man, that he took a huge risk and got far less than anticipated.
@DLHarv

i wouldve been pissed if i bid $130,000 and then having them convince people to bid higher

I’ve had that happen when I was bidding, alternatively they’ve called sold before I even had a chance to put my bid in.

My dad is the reason why that motor is in that car. Carcraft could not get it done. My dad was called in to go over to carcraft. He had it in the car within a few hour's. Ernie MacEwen. Experimental mechanic Ford motor company.

My ‘65 Mustang Convertible with a 289 HiPo went belly up. So I sold that and went to look at a black Boss 429 for 4 grand. Made the mistake of taking my Mother with me. The guy took it out on Harlem Ave and punched it and my Mom said you’re out of your mind if you think I’m gonna loan you money for this.

MSRP for a Boss 429 in 1970 was $4,087. That’s $32,175 in 2023… That’s just not fair.

If it was missing the carb and smog equipment and who knows what else... the buyers for these cars know what they are worth. That car was worth $150-$160 for whatever reason. That's why the Minnesota guys wanted $150.
