While talking with my dad about the recently featured 1973 MPC Mustang, he reminded me of the many different Mustang kits he’s had. So I went on a search and found twelve, listed below in order of appearance. I hope you enjoy!

Has there ever been a more, iconic, American Fighter Plane for its time - for all time, really - than the P-51 Mustang? Growing up, every kid that built models had at least one P-51 in their collection, and it seemed that every model kit company had one or more variants of the P-51 in their catalogue that varied widely in cost and quality of detail. (I remember hearing once that a model kit manufacturer would rather have 5% of the P-51 market share than 100% of any one-off, obscure aircraft, no matter HOW interesting the subject was.) But I think I must be getting old (I'm 64.) A few weeks ago, I was at my local hobby shop, and I saw a couple of kids around 13 looking at an F-4 Phantom kit, and discussing it in the same, awestruck and reverent manner that my friends and I would use when speaking of the legendary P-51 way back in the 1970's. Time marches on . . . .

It and its Spitfire cousin (both of which were ultimately powered by the Rolls RoysCe Merlin engine - the Mustang version being built under license by Packard) are classics, for sure. Chuck Yeager became an Ace in a Mustang. Tom Cruise owns one.

I’m really getting into this CHANNEL… I still Build the Older Kits !!!!!!! €Bay has been my GO - TO for model kits lately… Yes, it can be pricey, BUT I’m getting the Kits I want…. TOY FAIRS are good places to find OLDER KITS……… Gotta LOVE the old BOX ART… Building Models is FUN 😊 Model On…………. CHRIS 🇺🇸
