I don't think people understand how many hits Mustard got. He's been a legend. "Not Like Us" may be his first #1 but he got hella top 10's, top 20's, top 30's, & top 40's. Hella platinum songs! All I heard was Mustard beats on the radio from like 2013-2015. His run didn't stop there though. I've heard Mustard beats everywhere, for the past 11 years. His longevity has been crazy. He's had a hit like every summer since he's been in the game and its crazy! His longevity is amazing! Glad hes finally getting his flowers. Not to mention...so many producers were influenced by his sound and made beats like him. For example..."679" by Fetty Wap was a big hit and the beat sounded like a Mustard beat, but he didn't make it. His sound is beyond just the West Coast...its global!

HOWEVER, not one is a Pulitzer Prize Winner for Rap (a category created), nor a literary genius. I get the NYC/LA thing though. I am a teacher and can't wait to use some of Kendrick's barz for reading and comprehension. I'm from the 'Dirty South.' Please share who you think should represent the east coast to level the rapping field.

He’s BEEN established for years, but not ONCE allowed complacency or ego to deter his persistence. Nor did he let Kendrick not moving on all the previous submissions to change his grind or sour his attitude. 2% of his work got this man the number 1 song in the WORLD and definitively one of the greatest songs of all time. THIS is what breeds success and everyone can learn from him. I respect this man, Kendrick and the song so much more!

I'm a southerner who went to OC for college. Cali folks are very dedicated to their culture and sound. They rarely if ever played anything except west coast hip hop when I was out there.
