A basic look at Plaits macro-oscillator and some of my favourite modes.

Thank you for this demo! Great equipment, but the DEMO you performed is too great not to make mention of! I find it SO intriguing, the exotic sounds that can be created electronically. Especially that it doesn’t *have* to be musical.

Thanks JLR, it's one of my first attempts at this type of demo. I'm pleased it seems to be being received fairly well. It's a fantastic module, been indispensable in so many ways since it arrived.

Your overview videos are fantastic, can you make one for rings? I also would love to hear how you are using both rings in your rack.

hello could you explain how you are using the modal resonator towards end of video , it sounds like you have an audio into plaits ....., also do you notice a big difference between rings and plaits when plaits is in rings mode since plaits is not stereo and has less voices.....thx.

Off the top of my head, it was just the first green voice in Plaits and a quite long envelope from stages multed to the vca and Ripples FM input so that the filter swept a little with the envelope.

How often do you use the two rings together? I have one of them right now and am contemplating if I should get another one or plaits.

All the time. It's such a diverse module that I'll often have them bringing quite different qualities to a piece. If it was just Rings and 1 or the other, well Plaits has a far broader range of sounds and has a couple of the Rings modes (in a slightly reduced capacity) in there. I even sometimes use them all together as '3 Rings' if the need arises.

It's such a diverse module and does it all so well that I just couldn't resist a 2nd. I sometimes even use Plaits in one of it's Rings style modes too for 3 resonator action like on this piece - erstlaub.bandcamp.com/album/triple-key . I've had an Elements for a while, it's a great module but I've got plenty of resources for rolling my own impulses for Rings. The bow and mallet ones in Elements are really beautiful though.

Thanks for the vid. I use a beatstep pro, and when i have the trigger patched to it the internal envelope/decay works fine, but when i patch the beatstep pro velocity to plaits level, it seems that plaits internal envelope is bypassed. is this normal?

Yep, the level in is essentially an internal VCA so you can plug an external envelope to modulate the amplitude. If you also use the trig input, the internal decay envelope is routed to the small knobs (assuming nothing is patched to their inputs).

HomeOfHappyPixels seems the be something unreleased. With sliders nonetheless.. maybe a sequencer id guess. The output on the bottom right looks interesting, like the warps output. Nice tease david, hope it was approved by olivier ;)

Naturally I pointed it out to the big man and he didn't mention it (which was a relief as it snowed a tiny bit and my already crap internet decided I was getting 8kbps upload speeds so the video took >12 hours to upload)

Isn't that a huge dc offset on the screen ? Edit ..it would be if the yellow x-axis is the zero line ..but I guess it's the blue indicator

Aye, it's a dual channel scope so the yellow channel is turned off but you can still see where the basline is set. The purple channel is a data channel so you can use it to show summed/subtracted/multiplied combinations of the 2 input channels (which is also turned off here).

Hey, my dude, what scope is that and do you recommend it? I'd prefer to get something with at least two inputs preferably two plus a trigger input, but it seems that doesn't exist. The trouble is most scopes with a decent feature set are also trying to sell you on their wide frequency range, and we just need to go up to 20khz.

Your ability to find musical tones on the ‘green’ side amazes me- I find almost everything there to be harsh, unmelodic and unusable, and my speech synthesis function simply does not work. I keep the module for the ‘red’ side- some great granular, noise, and THE best snare in Eurorack.
