RRRRAAAAAAAAAAA I LOVED THE THUNDER SAGAAAAA!!! It grabbed me by the throat and said "DO A MUTINY ANIMATIC" and I storyboarded the entire song in a day. Finishing it up took a bit longer, but this is still by far the fastest I've ever made an animatic of such length. This is also the longest animatic I've ever done!! And, if you're a regular of the channel, you'll also know that drawing humans isn't really my forte, so that was a fun challenge as well :) I hope you guys enjoy the video!!
Spanish subtitles were provided and translated by Mirlion, who was kind enough to reach out and offer to help me with them!

Thank you guys for watching!! This was so much fun to work on and I'm so happy I get to share it with you all :') EPIC has been such an inspiration to me, and I'm so happy to get to contribute to the awesome fandom :D EDIT: I’ve seen enough Eurylochus slander in these comments, it’s time for an essay 😤 (im not actually mad i just think it’ll be helpful if anyone wants to know why im such a eury sympathizer HAHA) I don’t think Eurylochus is a hypocrite. He’s angry with Odysseus because Ody _purposefully_ sacrificed those men’s lives. All the other deaths of the crew thus far in the story have been _accidents._ Up until this point, Eurylochus could trust Odysseus to put the crew’s survival first. His faith is shaken early in the ocean saga; Odysseus is acting erratically after Polites’s death, and seemingly acts without regard for the crew’s safety (steering them recklessly through the storm as the ships take damage, confronting gods seemingly on a whim, being _really_ secretive and trusting no one with the bag he returns with). Eurylochus opens the bag out of a need for closure, to know that Odysseus is still acting in favor of the crew. He does, and it’s a really stupid mistake, but I can understand the reasoning behind it. We the audience have the benefit of knowing for certain that the storm is in the bag, but it’s important to remember that _Eurylochus doesn’t._ After this, Eurylochus takes Odysseus’s ending words from “Luck Runs Out” to heart; he doesn’t question Odysseus in front of the crew anymore, because the last time he took matters into his own hands, they lost the majority of their fleet. When Eury loses his men to Circe, he thinks them to be essentially dead. He has no reason to believe that Circe can be convinced to turn them back, and Odysseus trying to confront her seems like he’s just walking into a death trap (and it would have been without Hermes intervening for the funsies!!). Despite expectations, Odysseus succeeds. He gets the men back, and he gets directions to their next course of action, and Eurylochus puts more trust into Ody’s ability to protect and care for the crew. They go into the underworld, and they come back out alive. They sail through Scylla’s lair, Eury admits to opening the wind bag, and Odysseus directs Eurylochus to light the torches and hand them out. Eury does so, and then Scylla attacks. The men with torches are eaten, _deliberately sacrificed,_ and the rest make it out safely. Now, Eurylochus has to grapple with the fact that obeying his captain unquestioningly lead him to having a direct hand in the deaths of more of their friends. He has to deal with the fact that, despite earlier assurances, Odysseus _will not actually put the men’s lives first._ Before anyone or anything else, Odysseus puts his goal of getting home to his family _first._ And _this_ is Eurylochus’s tipping point. It isn’t the fact that the men died, it’s the fact that Odysseus decided that the lives of the crew are acceptable collateral in his quest to return home. To Eurylochus, who finds his purpose in protecting the crew, this is an unacceptable stance to take. Thus, the mutiny. ANYWAY I’ve just seen a lot of people complain that Eury doesn’t have a right to complain since he’s also caused a lot of deaths, but I think they’re fundamentally misunderstanding the reasoning behind the mutiny. Both Odysseus and Eurylochus are very complex characters and they’ve both got blood on their hands; looking for a simple “this person is Right and this person is Wrong” in this situation just doesn’t work! obviously you’re not obligated to agree with me, this is all just my opinion ✌️ thanks for watching, and if you made it this far, thanks for reading my essay HAHA

I love how even the mutiny, we see how the crew and Odysseus don't immediately switch gears. When Eurolychis kills the cow and the realization sets in, he immediately looks at Odysseus. And Odysseus responds immediately, taking back the role of captain, ordering the men to try and escape. Even after the sacrifice of 6 men, he still cares. He was tied up and didn't need to take liability, but he reopened his wound so they could have a chance of escape.
@RoshieFlower77
@RoshieFlower77 2 месяца назад
As for the six men, he didn’t exactly have a choice. As said in Suffering, the Lair Of Scylla was the only way home. And Scylla was immortal, just like Charybdis. There really was no point in telling his men that six of them would die no matter what they did, unless Odysseus wanted to traumatize them any more.

Well no, cause it’s shown that in this musical Eurylocus just realized they were immortal, they couldn’t have been eating them before. I believe the reason this is is because Eurylochus specifically waited for Odysseus to awaken so he could explain to him his reasons, instead of just sacrificing him like Ody did to the 6 crew mates. It kinda shows that although Ody doesn’t have much humanity left, Eurylochus does, and now there’s a difference between them

I love how this animatic portrays the duel between Odysseus and Eurylochus as a violent yet non-fatal one. Once Odysseus subdued Eurylochus, he doesn’t go for the kill like I’ve seen him do in all the other animatics I’ve seen. That small, unique detail goes so far in developing the two’s broken friendship, and how, despite their ideologies and roads in life irreparably diverging, they still care about each other and don’t want the other dead.
@nonamegiven19xx
@nonamegiven19xx 2 месяца назад
Are you sure about that? Because the way Ody is gripping his sword, he definitely seemed to me like he was gonna stab down at Eury. Which I think personally fits the energy of the song and the 'NOT LETTING YOU GET IN MY WAY' vibe, as well as the 'THERE IS NO PRICE HE WONT PAY' chorus

This explains why Eurylochus left the cow immediately. Because he realized it was poison and all for naught. I don't think Ody knew the cattle bled ichor. He just knew the cattle belonged to Helios, and harming/destroying/taking *anything* belonging to any god in the greek pantheon, be it a son (like the cyclops) or a pet (like the cows) or even a thing like a golden apple or fire leads to death at best and often times worse. The fact that Helios' cattle had ichor in its veins, hindering the very reason they killed it meaningless, is just an extra drop of irony.

This is my FAVORITE Mutiny animatic. I love the designs of the characters, I love how the blood actually drips down in a few scenes, how there is even sort of a parallel between Eurylochus at the beginning with the blood of his crewmates dripping down his face, and Eurylochus at the end with the blood of the cow dripping down his face - the damning of the rest of the crew. I love the artstyle in general, it's really hypnotic, and the anatomy is SO GOOD. I love how expressive the characters are too, Eurylochus tearing up at the start is really nice. Another comment mentions it but I also really like Odysseus using the blood to blind Eurylochus during their battle. The battle is really well animated and fluid, I love it a lot. I also love how the whole crew surrounds Odysseus during the mutiny, and how a few of them even have their own distinct designs... Odysseus still being hurt at the island, the cows are drawn so nicely too, and I love how trusting they are as well - the crew seemingly tying the one up with no real problems at all. The yellow shine in the cow's eye before the statue is even mentioned, into the yellow eye staring at Eurylochus after the cow has died. I also really like how Eurylochus is so out of it and distant, just like how he sounds in the song. He becomes more aware after killing the cow, enough to be afraid for his and his crew's future deaths, even if he's the one who caused it. I also like how he follows closely after Odysseus onto the ship as if to help him if he needs it, or if he falls, despite the mutiny not a few scenes ago... I just love it a lot in general. Thank you for making this!!!

1:56 I absolutely love how you drew the crew here. It tells so much story in just a single frame. The look of betrayal from Odysseus and the sadness and worry of the crew. He was their captain, king, friend, brother in-arms, and for Eury his brother in-law. As mad and resentful as they were they still viewed him as such. As a fellow commenter pointed out they still call him Captain and Ody respectively. Even more so they didn’t kill him. Many stories of mutiny have them trying to kill him due to the danger that leader would pose. They know Odysseus enough not to underestimate him. But still they just tie him up and treat his wounds instead. One could argue it’s because he is the king, but it is a Mutiny, those roles go out the window. Also the consensus portrayed by Eurylicous (who speaks for the crew) they never are going to get home so why even try. Even if they did to their knowledge Telemuchus is probably ruling by now since he is grown so it would actually save the trouble of whose going to rule. What I think is that it’s more that they all fought alongside each other and grown during their time at Troy and on their way back. A war that maybe Odysseus blames himself for bringing his men to. Not regretting it because it got him his top tier wife but still feeling guilty for the suffering. Especially with the added bonus of his first real mistake. With either anger (musical) or pride (original) getting the better of him he set their course by shouting his name. So this also concludes to why the choice for Odysseus is even more heartbreaking. Everyone can say it’s an easy choice cause they betrayed him but there is so much nuance and emotional depth that it makes it all the more tragic. Even when he gets home, even when he becomes the monster, he still will have every memory of the men he swore to lead. This might have been the general understanding already but I just wanted to appreciate that one frame. Anyway great art, ❤ it’s beautiful

I love how Eurylochus doesn't even deny ody when he says he'd have done the same. I think Eurylochus knows just as well as us that he's one of the main reasons they are in their current position. Imo Both Eurylochus and ody are hypocritical but I'm on ody's side here.
@saratoner3778
@saratoner3778 2 месяца назад
I think part of it is that Eurylochus expected better from Odysseus than from himself. Remember how Odysseus went back to save the lives of his men when Eurylochus wanted to run in the Circe saga? That is the man he thinks Odysseus is, the man who would rather die than lose another man but what he doesn't understand is that man no longer exists. At least not in the same way.

The difference is, Ody didn't even give them the choice or inform them of what would happen. He's put his men at great risk through his arrogance in the past, but he acted like a human being, for understandable reasons. Scout the island, leave Poly alive, confront Circe - he's taken gambles but he's always been on the level when it came to his crew. Him coldly deciding six of his men should die, including E, and not even bothering to tell them how or why, those actions are more in line with a furious god than a brother-in-arms. There was a massive amount of trust between him and his soldiers, as a commanding officer - strong enough that they continued to follow him after Poly smashed them, or Poseidon drowned them. But offering them as sacrifices broke that trust.
@MurphyTheLaw
@MurphyTheLaw Месяц назад
@@Lardo137 you forget that there was no reason to tell them. Either way, if he told them or not, 6 men would have to die since Scylla's lair was the only way. Do you think the crew would feel better if they knew 6 of them was going to die? They would have all refused to sacrifice themselves. Eury would've tried to fight Scylla and cause more causalities. And Eury was willing to leave men behind if he deemed them impossible to save AND was the first one to betray ody's trust by opening the windbag when ody specifically told them not to open it and why they shouldn't open it. Which sent them RIGHT to poseidon and sped up the deaths of 500+ men right when they were extremely close to home. There was no logic or proper reason to opening that windbag other than greed. Then, this is specific to epic the musical since in the oddysee Eury says he would rather die to the gods than of hunger. But in epic, Eury, while knowing full well the gods would come after them still kills the cow then asks "Captain?" like he didn't know it would happen. You think Zeus would've come after then and killed the rest if they were a bit more patient? The key conflict in epic is communication. Ody should've told them WAYYY before Scylla that it's the only way home and they need 6 sacrifices to not have anymore casualties. Eury should've trusted and spoke with ody about the windbag before letting his greed get the better of him. Eury should've trusted ody's words about the gods since he knows the most of the gods. They staged a mutiny against him, it's not even debatable that he should not have killed them considering their time and position and circumstances

AAAA THANK YOUU Ody throwing the blood in Eury's eyes was definitely me going 'warrior of the mind heehee' The ichor was partly because they're immortal/sacred, but also because I'd heard the term 'helios's golden cows' before, and I didn't see any reference to them _actually_ being gold in the og story (not that I could find), so I wanted to include the gold element in another way :) I was initially wanting to make it a full face for Zeus at the end, but I couldn't find a way to make it fit the framing with the ship's mast in the center there HAHA, so I adjusted and tweaked it until I found something that fit better :)

Found your animatic yesterday with my wife and needed to sit on it overnight to sort my thoughts out. Eurylochus' expression journey at the beginning is so emotive and gripping. He's so desperate in hoping he didn't completely lose the friend he knew in Odysseus. The tear tracks on Eury cutting through the blood spray and leading to a drip down his neck. Wow the attention to detail. Huge props for the accurate ship design with the set in rowing positions. Ody tossing blood to hinder Eury ties well into the whole cunning and guile side of him. Seeing the crew handling Ody with care after stabbing him was a good touch down to their remorseful looks. Same with the crew member helping Eury up from the deck. Ody being cleaned, bandaged up, and tied to the sun god statue helpless to what's about to happen but wanting desperately for them to not proceed was so well done. Also! Your cows are so beautifully drawn and animated we both wanted to pet them. The scream we scrempt when the cow's blood was gold is where I started holding my breath because this scene was made much more intense through your art. They eye gleaming gold before Eury approached was a nice, subtle touch. The eye turning gold and rolling to focus on Eury was heart stopping. Ody breaking free from his binding to attempt to save the crew (himself) at cost to his physical wellbeing was gut wrenching. As was Eury attempting to wrangle Ody but hesitating to even touch him, just hovering instead. Fantastic piece. I highly look forward to seeing what you come out with in the future.

Eurylochus, on the other hand, is just in rags like the others, but his bigger sword seems to show how he is willing to take bigger risks to survive Idk just a thought

Seeing Ody start out the initial fight dwarfed by Eurylochus but using the BLOOD OF HIS SACRIFICED CREWMATES to gain the upper hand made me gasp, beautifully portrayed, incredible!! I also really love thinking of the symbolism there, of Odysseus callously using the dead’s blood to show how far he’s willing to go, while Eurylochus ends up blinded by said blood. Blinded by the rage and unfiltered horror at his Captain’s actions, ultimately acting out in mutiny not just as an individual but also as the chorus of the remaining crew’s desire to lash out. GAH, I’m in love with this animatic you have no idea! I also just checked and was pleasantly surprised to see that you’re Mudpaw’s creator! Incredibly exciting to see you branch off into EPIC!

Wow, this is awesome! Love the fight scene, the expressions, and the fact that Odysseus's injury shown to be more serious than just something he walks off. Also, the cow's eye moving to look at Eurylicus was so spooky. Well done!

The way you used the volour of blood in this is masterful! How so much of the blood was coating Eurylochus at the beginning to show the hell he just went through and BARELY survived. Odysseous using the blood of his own crew, the crew HE sacrificed, to blind Eurylochus in the fight. And then the cows- THE COWS. The golden blood and the slight foreshadowing with their eyes also being the only thing with colour, the golden colour. Eurylochus coated in golden blood while Odysseous parallels him in the beginning as he's coated in red- THIS is the best Mutiny anamatic, in my opinion. Also the expressions through out! OH GODH... I love it.

This fight scene was so, so well done. I've seen some versions where Odysseus just completely dominates the battle, but I loved the decision to have Eurylochus have the upper hand in a fair fight and Odysseus immediately making it an unfair one, using the blood of his dead shipmates as a weapon! It fits so well with his crafty nature and emphasizes the horror and desperation of their situation. Your depiction of how broken Eurylochus is on the island is perfect, too, and the colors of the blood (AND THE ICHOR!!!) against greyscale was an inspired touch. This was a really great animatic!

Your expressions are SO good, Eurolychus goes from like absolutely losing it at the thought of what Odysseus had just done to furious to.. tired. Of trusting Odysseus, of hoping they'll see things through, of being the second in command Odysseus asked him to be. You can see, his eyes, his face, sitting there looking out at those cows, he's just.. so tired.
