I love how Odysseus goes from mental breakdown to "Jokes on you I have a bag"

I LOVE that you made Poseidon use a horse form, both because its one of the animals he is associated with, but also because it's another layer of mocking Odysseus with the depiction that will remind him of his Trojan Horse

Think what I like about this one is how *inhuman* Poseidon is. His face as a human is skull-like, a pale brow and hollow cheeks around monochromatic eyes and a beard that frames his lips apart from his jaws, like teeth. And when he shifts into a horse, he moves fluidly, standing like a statue that shatters the laws of motion when he shifts. Poseidon isn't an especially powerful humanoid here. Poseidon is an aspect of reality and fantasy, reminders of death and fear. Trying to dance around him with words means he teaches you that his vows, like water too, can be unyielding.

I do enjoy that Poseidon's whole point throughout the song is literally 'Buddy, if you'd actually finished my son off, I wouldn't have known who to punish'. He doesn't actually care for his child, or at least it seems that way. It seems that he's doing what he's doing because he knows someone that hurt something of his, and he's a greek god. If someone wrongs you, there is only one course of action.

Something I love about Poseidons attitude about what Odysseus did to his son was that he doesn’t actually care that much about his son, things die all the time, it’s part of a natural order. However, Odesseus MAIMED his son and his “mercy” left him disfigured, which he is taking more of in insult towards than actually caring about the state of his son

It's so creepy when the lyrics say "die" and that terrifying smiling horse just looms over the ships

4:16 Being the god of the seas, there's no reason that Posiden couldn't have stopped the ship's escape. "Remember me," is the same thing Odysseus told Polyphemus While the original intent was to kill Odysseus, he decided to instead to let him live with the mistake that caused hundreds of deaths. He ultimately gave the same sentence, loss of the flock and personal pain

I do really like Poseidon is saying in this song. That Odysseus's "mercy" was crueler than just simply killing the cyclops and Odysseus's Naivety basically killed all his men.

I love the inclusion of the baby cause it shows how hypocritical Odysseus is being. Hes willing to kill a baby, to protect his family but not simply kill the cyclops who was trying to kill him. Amazing work

The moment where Posideon casually toyed with their battleships like it was nothing really emphasizes that this is a GOD they're facing. Like any natural disaster, you don't try to beat them, you survive them.

Odysseus: trying to silver tongue his way out of trouble. Poseidon: "Oh, I ain't having any of that."

The way Odysseus’ men desperatly shout « Captain » while drowning, like they think he can help them is so heartbreaking. The way they loved him is just ❤❤❤

The literal god of the sea: "Any lasts words before I end you?" Odysseus: *BAG*

I’m sorry, I can’t get over the fact that we probably have the most intense scene from this musical with Poseidon killing hundreds of men and the writers go “oh right, we need something funny here” Odysseus: “all I gotta do is open this bag” in such a lighthearted tone like he didn’t just almost drown I freaking died

I love the line "the pack of wolves is swimming with the Shark now" for the use of the singular, there is ONE shark, THE shark, doesn't matter how many wolves there are, the Shark can't be beaten. Only escaped.

Am i the only one who think Poseidon asking for for an apology was him tricking Odysseus to confess to blinding polyphemus and getting the go ahead to wipe his crew?

First of all, I like this Poseidon in his roughness. That the way he drags and shoves Odysseus shows that he is nothing more than a man who can do nothing before the power of god. Secondly, I like how Poseidon mocks Odysseus’s emotional trauma, remembering the baby. Obviously, he was referring to Troy here. Thirdly, am I not the only one who thought Odysseus was smug at the moment of apology?This is what Poseidon is talking about and it is clear that he has not forgiven him

3:38 God, the symbolism of "I am your darkest moment, the monster that always draws near" being said by Poseidon as a HORSE, considering that Odysseus's regrets in Troy is what led to his actions envoking Poseidons wrath made my jaw drop. Triple S+ teir!

I love how when Poseidon says "the line between naivety and hopelessness is almost invisible" Odysseus' face disappears. Because he doesnt matter, he just looks like any other human to Poseidon and he isnt doing the ONE thing that Poseidon asked him to. Apologies. The honeyed words and charming expressions of Odysseus are irrelevant, Poseidon asked for an apology and you arent doing that. Thats the only thing that matters here.

Everything about this is great, but the way horse Poseidon looks (horseidon?) just makes it even BETTER. Mostly because we all how how notorious horses are for being difficult to properly proportion, and every horse frame here is amazing

I think modern retellings of Greek myth forget how freaking scary Poseidon is…like he IS the ocean so tsunamis, whirlpools, etc, are him. Poseidon is terrifying

I love how Poseidon just drops the baby made of water onto the deck of the ship. Showing that he doesnt actually care about his son, only that Odysseus hurting his son was also indirectly a slight against him. While simultaneously taunting Odysseus with his regret of having to kill Hectors child.

For people asking why Poseidon seems not to care about Odysseus hurting his son and wishing he’d just killed him, for ancient Greeks a death in battle was a glorious end. If Odysseus killed Polyphemus it would be honorable for him and by extension Poseidon. By leaving him maimed and humiliated, he’s humiliated Poseidon, and for a god that’s the worst disservice you can give them. It’s really weird from a 21st century western point of view, but it’s a pretty accurate depiction of Poseidon as a Greek god

The disrespect of Poseidon just dragging him across the deck by the hair is insane, considering he could have thrown him across the deck literally ANY OTHER WAY.

I love Odysseus expressions in his “apology”. He is not just smug, he looks to the side just for a second to figure out how to spin the tale & starts playing the part of being contrite without having to actually say sorry & when he’s done he smiles like he just singlehandedly defeated the ocean. Poseidon just dragged him around like a rag doll & played with the ship just as easy but now that he thinks he can win just by talking he immediately looks confident & relaxed, & just like with the Cyclops it doesn’t work, because Eurylochus is right, he is getting them killed by trying to play smart with Gods

Odysseus’ fatal flaw is definitely hubris. And you can totally see it in his ‘apology’. Not only did he look a little smug, he never even apologized. Who cares if you don’t think you actually have to, that’s the God of the fucking Sea, say sorry.

Okay, but why is no one talking about how you draw Poseidon as this fluid, formless *thing* eerily crawling along the edge of the ship before diving back into the water as he says "the pack of wolves is swimming with the shark now"? Or how you draw the massive waves and Poseidon's eerie smile in the waters as he drowns almost all of Odysseus' crew? Or how Poseidon's arm fluidly transitions between water and flesh when he first seizes Odysseus? OR THE TRANSITION OF THE HORSE DIVING INTO THE WATER TO GIANT POSEIDON SLAMMING HIS FOOT DOWN ON THE SHIP????? So many good moments, holy geez!!

The line "when does a ripple become a tidal wave, when does a man become a monster?" gives me goosebumps every single time. It goes from another metaphor about consequence among a dozen others to a bone chilling callback.

I love how Poseidon is like “Apologize”. But Odysseus is like “Nah. I’m going to explain why I did it but not apologize. Because, no 😂”

The visual of the baby that Poseidon drops hitting the deck timed with the "You are far too nice" lyric hits so hard. It's clear that Odysseus thinks killing that baby is the worst thing he has ever done, so for Poseidon to call him "nice" and merciful right then is exqusite torture.

Oh my god i actually audibly gasped at 1:25. I can't even put into words how amazingly you animated poseidon. You integrated his domain over horses in such a cool and menacing way. You captured the absolute raw power that he has perfectly and in such a visually interesting way. This is going in my favorites playlist LOL.

I CANNOT PROPERLY ARTICULATE HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS DESIGN OF POSEIDON. He's just got SUCH A MASSIVE PRESENCE whenever he's in frame, he FEELS intimidating

I love Poseidon’s monstrous forms depicted here. It fluidly combines him being an ocean god and a horse god and it’s just so fucking epic. I especially liked right after “Die.” when he’s killing all of Odysseus’ crew. It feels like he’s not just an ocean god, he _is_ the ocean, and he could have killed them all with a thought the moment they set sail.

Holy fuck this is incredible. I love how free form posideon is with his form, quickly shifting from man to horse to weird eldritch horse. And this is some of the best use of posideon being the God of horses I've ever seen or even thought of. Overall, it's a phenomenal job, and I can't wait for more in the future. Edit: just to gush a bit more about this incredible piece of art, the whole transition from huge posideon into the smaller but still big posideon that drops the baby is just *chefs kiss* capital P Phenomenal. As well as the entire sequence of posideon just fucking up Odysseus by the hair, and the whole seen of him murdering the crew make me want an animated Epic:the musical film so bad.

I absolutely love that when Poseidon is throwing Odysseus around you get the feeling of being sucked into a whirlpool.

I still get chills when the other ships are being drowned, helplessly begging their captain to save them.

This is such a sick way to depict Poseidon, the way he flows between forms, the watery arm, the way he throws them around, he feels every inch god and force of nature at once, it's so cool.

No joke, the entire sequence of Odysseus's crew just screaming "Captain!" over and over while drowning gave me chills. It really highlighted how helpless Odysseus actually is in front of Poseidon, to the point where he wasn't able to even help his own crew and was only able to stay alive because Poseidon wanted him to. Not because of his wit, or his smarts, or anything else Odysseus was known for. Only because Poseidon wanted to gloat. Look at how powerless you are. Look at how your decisions have caused your crew's downfall. Look.

I forgot that Poseidon is also the god of horses 🐎

I find it fascinating that Poseidons face in this almost looks like a horse, long, narrow, the beard sculpting a specific shape out of it. Shows that even when playing nice with mortals, his realm is on display, or soemthing

Im not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but I love it when Poseidon goes from horse to giant with his foot on the ship, how the water is his cloak. It's such a small detail that adds so much to the fact that Poseidon is a GOD

I absolutely ADORE how at 1:12 it seems as if Poseidon is physically kicking up the waves as he runs. It actually provides some level of connection between Poseidon's domains as god of the sea and god of horses that has a line of reasoning behind it. I love all the parts where you make use of Poseidon's associations with horses, but this bit in particular really sold it to me as something that could be an intrinsic part of his current characterization, rather than it just being a vestigial trait.

Even though the way Poseidon threatens and mocks Odysseus with his own prideful speech is really impactful and rightfully unsettling, it is so funny to me to imagine Polyphemus just giving his daddy all the details like Polyphemus (sobbing): And- and he said t-that he's my d-darkest moment... Poseidon (About to end this man's who career): Did he now~

The ancients Greeks were terribly afraid of death at sea because it was impossible to recuperate the bodies and so the poor souls were left to wonder out of the underworld since there had not been a right funeral for them, your Poseidon just incarnate that fear so well!! THIS IS AMAZING!! They way he has just inflicted the worst punishment for them and their families this is exactly how I imagined this song to look! You are great!,

I love your version of Poseidon. He’s not just some powerful, magical person - he’s a force of nature, wild, uncontrollable, and totally unconcerned with human casualties when it comes to getting revenge. He’s simultaneously totally inhuman and somehow still very tied to the depths of human passion and cruelty.

Now THIS Poseidon feels like a god worthy of the title "Earthshaker."

a small thing i really like is how poseidon's facial hair and hair frames his face to look like a stylised skull, symbolising how *Ruthless* the sea can be

..I think this is the best Epic animatic I've ever seen, the fluidity, the designs, the actual creeps Poseidon's horse form gives, the horror of the crew drowning. It's just perfect you're an amazing animator

poseidon inflicted emotional damage on odysseus when he dropped that baby, holy shit

This is one of those amazing animatics where you can rewatch it a dozen times and still find something new to enjoy. A moment that I love is at 1:47: in the brief second before he turns to Odysseus he looks so affectionate towards the baby in his arms - is this a memory of when Polyphemus was a baby? It's a good reminder that Poseidon was actually a decent divine parent compared to most of the pantheon. I also love 2:54, where he literally stops seeing Odysseus as a person. He's closing his heart to all the paperwork he's about to give Hades. Every god Odysseus has talked to so far - Zeus, Athena, Aeolus - has told Odysseus that he must walk a ruthless path. Poseidon, in all his eldritch equine glory, is giving him an object lesson in why he can't have his cake (remain unchanged by his experiences) and eat it too (return home).

i ADORE how fluid Poseidon's form is throughout this - from the horse to the way his robes seem to meld with the sea - it's absolutely perfect. The sequence with the drowning man was absolutely haunting as well.

I have never seen a more terrifying portrayal of Poseidon. AND YOU LEANED INTO THE WEIRD HORSE GOD THING. AND IT MADE IT SCARIER. wtf. The motion was so engaging as well. So much storytelling and expression. Fantastic work

I can't stop watching. Poseidon manhandling Odysseus-whirlpool sequence, the expressions, the CREEPY HORSE!! The wolves swimming with the shark part 🥺🔥🔥 so vengeful and ready to show Odysseus his place as a mortal. I'm in love with Poseidon's eyes throughout the piece. SOBBED cuz the drowning sequence hurt my heart. Thank you for making this!!!❤❤

I am absolutely speechless. The use of the horse to create this horrifying and beast-like image of Poseidon, the imagery of Poseidon dropping his "son" mirroring Odysseus dropping the infant from the walls of Troy, the depiction of all the men drowning-- this is truly one of if not THE best EPIC animatic I've seen (and trust me, I've binge watched a LOT of them lol). Keep doing what you're doing, man, it's absolutely incredible.

"You reveal your name! then you let him live!" always gets me. Like what the hell was Odysseus trying to accomplish by doing that and what the hell could he hope to even say to Poseidon to escape from this situation? Then he goes and takes the god for a fool. The man's hubris is incommensurable and i love the various shades of grey in it.

I love how you made Poseidon's expression at 2:49 look like he's just thinking ' you really think I bought any of that?'

Love the long-haired look you gave poseidon. For some reason. That's always a look reserved for Hades, but I really get why poseidon would look like that. He looks more like a man who had been adrift at see for ages. And the heavy emphasis on how his anger would manifest was great.

Not only was he the God of the Seas and water in general. He was also the God of Horses and Earthquakes. I love seeing his horse form.

There is a brutal irony to not having killed the Cyclops after killing Hector's child back in Troy in order to avoid a future fate. Having Posiedon holding a shaow child as he sang that line was a brutal reminder of what Odysseus has already done, a demonstartably even more ruthless action than killing the Cyclops would have been.

This is beautiful. The part that captures me is the smirk on Odyssey's face when he "apologizes" to Poseidon, stating that he was only trying to survive and he "took no pleasure in his pain". Polyphemus likely already told Poseidon of Odysseus's gloating. Poseidon's face clearly depicts his disbelief. This mortal man, with his and his crew's lives on the line isn't taking the situation seriously. He's not showing fear in his apology, and appears to think that he worded it so nicely, so clearly he's safe from harm? Except he wasn't and he lost that smirk real quick. Amazing animation.

Okay maybe it's just me but is Poseidon drawn at a different frame rate than Odysseus and the crew? He's so fluid--it really shows the idea that he's a god on a different playing field than the rest of them. I've watched this at least fifteen times in the past two days. This is genuinely incredible.

The dang scene where the horse looms over the ships and the bass drops and the whole scene of them drowning is still giving me damn chills. That is all.

The pure DISTRESS on Odysseus's face compared to the eldritch horror of Poseidon's horse form is so raw. Adore it. Even despite not having pupils its so easy to tell in Poseidon's human form how much he loves to tear at Odysseus's pride, ego and heart. That baby reference was downright cruel yet so interesting.

Anyone else notice how 4:07 looks like the ship is sticking out the middle finger at Poseidon LOL

The horse form of Posidion is genius, especially when you look at how some mythologies like Celtic and Nordic have monstrous horses in some of their stories that actively hunt and drown travellers.

The freaking attention to detail in this animatic is *chefs kiss*✨ I mean holy shit, the way Odysseus is just freaking manhandled by Poseidon, the use of the Lord of the Horses symbology mixed with the Trojan Horse, the eerie fury thats showed by Poseidon, the whole 'cradling the baby before letting him drop' in min 1:42 just like Odysseus had done himself in Just a Man, showing his own hypocrisy because he killed many men and a baby, someone's son, yet he wouldn't kill the cyclops, Poseidon's son. The freaking smile as Odysseus gives his not-even-half-assed-apollogy face expressions, the way Poseidon just flows around like water while the others are more static, the whole nightmare fuel horse of fury, the drowning scene, just... Wow

This is tickling my brains in ALL the right ways, including him playing out Odysseus dropping the baby, and the “ALL I GOTTA DO IS OPEN THIS BAG, *W H A T?!* ”

I love how Poseidon so easily makes Odysseus seem like a small boy in comparison to him, dragging and tossing him around. Well animated, the drowning scene is nearly heartbreaking to watch.

I kept trying to figure out why the part with the drowning men screaming "captain" kept sticking out so much. It's because the pattern is incomplete by one. Matching the song, it should've had one more "captain" but it was cut short suddenly like their lives. Great song. Also: Dude, please open your bag BEFORE Posidon kills everyone.

Gosh, I love how CREEPY you made Poseidon! He absolutely REEKS of a vengeful god. The horse imagery is amazing, the expressions of horror and pain that flash in the eyes of Odysseus and his men are drawn and animated incredibly well, the movements are all so smooth and fluid... EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS IS SO GOOD!!!! You did amazing! :D

One thing that I like about the artistic depiction here is that when Poseidon asks for an apology, Odysseus seems to try and placate him diplomatically. He is good with his words, he's a tricked the cyclops this way. He seems so confident in his supplication to Poseidon, and that is where Poseidon seems to take offense. It specifically after Odysseus tries to sway a god that the god strikes his crew down for the audacity of it. I love that detail.

the fluidity of Posseidon's movements BRO utilising the whole god of the sea in everything thing he does, in every form he takes. Like him being a fluid and raging like the ocean IS SO IMPRESSIVE

In defense of Poseidon slaughtering the Ithacans, he had said that he’d stay his hand in exchange for an apology from Odysseus. If you pay attention to exact words, “I’m sorry” never passed Odysseus’ lips in this scenario. Instead, what Odysseus offered was an excuse that, when analyzed, was full of lies. Think back to the Cyclops saga. “We meant no harm” falls apart when “Survive” and “Remember Them” are looked at. In the former, Odysseus had quickly resorted to lethal force (albeit in self-defense) to deal with Polythemus to take his flock to feed his men (even nice boy Polites wanted the sheep). And in the latter song, Odysseus’ men and Athena both quickly suggested killing Polythemus, an act that was CLEARLY harmful. “We only hurt him to disarm him” is a lie because again, the sheep. Odysseus and his men stole the flock on their way out. This entire conflict started over ownership over Polythemus’ pets that the Ithacans wanted to use to resupply their provisions (it’s their own fault for not keeping track of their food supplies for the Trojan campaign or remembering how to fish/hunt and gather). Furthermore, taking away his club while he was asleep technically counted as “disarming”, but they proceeded to use it against him. “We took no pleasure in his pain” is COMPLETE cap. Odysseus, as a final middle finger and perhaps his biggest moment of hubris in the entire Odyssey, turned to a defeated Polythemus on his way out and boasted that Polythemus was blinded and tricked by not “Nobody”, but Odysseus, King of Ithaca. He WANTED the cyclops to not only hurt, but live in fear, pain, and misery for daring to kill his best friend and several men under him. You don’t spite someone like that without taking at least a LITTLE pleasure in it. Finally, “We only wanted to escape.” This holds true up until the moment Odysseus orders the sheep taken and then his boast. True, Odysseus was trying to escape the cyclops who had been trying to murder him and his men because Odysseus realized far too late that the cave had a very angry homeowner and that a flock of wild sheep capable of feeding 600 soldiers long enough to cover 600 miles of open sea don’t typically live in a random cave. But then after he blinds Polythemus and tricks him into opening the cave, he doesn’t abandon the sheep gathering mission. In fact, he and his remaining away team DOUBLE DOWN and round up the flock anyway, doing exactly what Polythemus accused them of doing: coming into his home to steal. Yes, technically sacred hospitality was broken, here, but Odysseus broke it first because he and his men crept into the cave and started slaughtering sheep without the express permission of their shepherd/the “host” Polythemus. And of course, Odysseus could have simply sailed away leaving Polythemus to wallow in pity, but Odysseus stopped to make his final boast, earning him the direct wrath of Poseidon. So yes. TL;DR: Poseidon didn’t get an apology, he got a half-assed “Well he started it” from Odysseus, and was certainly justified in his revenge.

The horse has such a cool double meaning: It is symbolic of Poseidon, AND a nod to the Trojan horse. A.k.a Poseidon taunting Odysseus’s trauma.

Okay, after 3 rewatches, I’m ready to write a comment. First of all, holy shit, Poseidon is terrifying. I love that you used his animal, the horse as a form for him. Powerful anyimal, and holy shit, somehow terrifying. The way he shapeshifts so fluidly too. The water arm as he grabs Odysseus, THE WAY HE CRAWLS ON THE RAILINGS, gives me the shivers. I love how rough he is with Odysseus, ruthless indeed. And the mocking of “killing a son” with Hector’s baby, dropping the baby the same way Odysseus dropped the kid over the wall. And the way he shakes Odysseus around, like the dude is being tossed by the wave, almost telegraphing what Poseidon is about to do to the fleet? Brilliant. Chef’s kiss. And Odysseus, clearly not in control probably for the first time in the musical, clearly being mentally thrown too, beside the physical. How he is trying to aim for manipulative with the apology (really well drawn, little exaggerations of expression and movement), and then yet again getting thrown by what happens. This is so good, it’s out of this world. This is the first animatic where i was actually afraid of the god depicted. It is so obvious that they are unequipped to deal with what is happening. The way you drew the fleed goinf down is, again, terrifying. Their wide eyes, the way their arms claw for the surface…freaking brilliant. I have no words for how amazing this animatic is. And how Poseidon just stands there at the end…chilld. Absolute chills. You are so good, holy shit, I love everything about it (and while writing this comment finished my 4th watch :) )

this has to be by far my favorite animation for Ruthlessness. I watch it at least once a day honestly, because it's so well done and the usage of Lord Poseidon being a stallion like he is in some lore, is just amazing and it feels thoroughly well researched and I'm in awe.
