The one thing I dislike is change. Changes in circumstances. Physical changes. Emotional changes. In most cases, change of any kind means degradation. It's decay. I prefer the unchanging. A perfect unchanging state that lasts forever.
does that mean the old humans in the stone age or sth were more perfect than us now? he says that change is degeneration but is it not the other way around? change means evolution?
"Evolution" as the Biological concept we know, happens because of random mutations that *might* be useful. But by definition MOST of these are either neutral or detrimental, and never survive beyond a few generations. So statistically speaking, he would still be correct in that sense. Most of it is garbage (Cancer and Syndromes like Down's come from mutations as well). It is far easier to ruin a good thing, than to make it better. Also, Evolution & "Progress" don't *always* move in a more "positive" direction. In the case of evolution it merely reflects the traits necessary or useful to surviving - as a population - in a specific environment. If the incentives are twisted as in, let's say, one that highly rewards liars or extreme violence, then those traits will become more common. Similarly, if the environment changes from one that is tough and arduous to one where it is very easy to survive, that population will probably "degrade" in quality, as individuals with low genetic fitness will now *also* be able to survive. This is what seems to be happening in modern wealthy nations, due to modern medicine and socialistic policies. Many who have genetic diseases, or propensity to poor health, addictions, extreme obesity or dysfunctional behaviors, who would've died in a natural environment or even during birth, are now surviving and increasing their numbers. There is also some evidence IQ is declining on 1st world nations for this reason. And he is speaking from the point of view of someone who is hundreds of years old, not tens or hundreds of thousands. We don't even know if human history/evolution and biology are the same in that universe given it has Oni's. In that time-frame it would perfectly possible to witness mostly degradation. If you look at, say, our physical fitness, it has certainly degraded in the last few centuries. Our languages as well, specially written formal language, have become significantly simplified when compared to the original ones. Classical Chinese, Latin, Old Norse and Old English all have significantly more complex grammar and syntax (and in the case of Chinese, writing system too) when compared to their modern descendants. I don't know what the consensus explanation for this is among experts, but I'd assume it has to do with the fact that nowadays everyone makes heavy use of the languages, distorting it to their preferences and capacity, including stupid people, whereas in the past it was mostly used by scholars, intellectuals, nobles(like Muzan lol), and language nerds as common folk had little time or use for it. One interesting inconsistency though, is that Muzan is often seen wearing (modern-ish) European-style clothing, like suits, ties, and Homburg-styled hats, which despite being somewhat historically accurate, had JUST arrived in Japan at the time of Demon Slayer, and was considered a very novel and "trendy" thing to do, among the elite. So given that we know he used to be Japanese nobility and not a westerner, it doesn't seem like he dislikes ALL change lol.
This is a very well written comment, it's not often I see such ones in the youtube comments section. Can you suggest some books or sources where you learned about the negative impacts of modern medicine and socialistic policies on the species?. Thank you and have a nice day.@@fangornthewise
If your really dig deep, you feel sorry for both sides. Muzan was evil, definitely, at the same time though, why do you think so? He keeps mentioning how he does not like change and things of that sort. Everything comes back to his sickness and him almost dying.
