It's amazing how something so small can sound so good. If the radio was the size of the case like I thought it was going to be I would possibly be interested, but as is it is simply a novelty, albeit a very well performing one. I really love the retro look in radios.

Wow! sounds and looks great for such a small radio. Hard to justify the shelling out over $100 for this one. I wish these companies would make the battery accessible. My wife would probably like this one on display. Very cool radio, thanks for sharing.

Nice review, Todderbert! So glad to see it's finally up! You've echoed most of the thoughts and opinions I formed on this little radio before sending it your way. One other issue I had with it is the way they made the USB jack handle so much. It kind of baffles me. I bet that's going to be a point of failure for many units, along with people losing a cable or that antenna. Keep up the great work!

The aux via USB I have seen in one other radio, a kind of generic one with red LED frequency display. Prunus sells a version. It has a mini-USB Y-cable that goes to USB-A for power and 1/8" plug for AUX. Might even work for the Muzen with a mini-female-to-micro-male adapter. But, yeah, seriously there should AT LEAST be a normal 1/8" antenna jack on the Muzen, if not also a separate AUX in.

Well, it's built nice, but it's a novelty item. It does have great packaging but I don't think I would buy that for myself. It would be nice as a gift for the casual FM listener to display and listen to from time to time. I'm with you, I would go with the Prunus. It does not have metal construction but it is more versatile with removable batteries, much better price point and displays just as nice. There is a place in the market for both of these types of radios, I would imagine.

I was about to leave a comment like that, but you've beat me to it Steve! This Muzen FM radio does make a nice gift or birthday present though. 🎁📻🎂

Almost got this OEM Radio too but then i saw the price x3 So i went with the version from another chinese manufacturer that came in a plastic case that looks like wood and it only cost me 20-30 bucks or so. No regrets. It is now my Old Time Radio device. :] I gotta say though.. the metal variation by Muzen is still really nice. Just not over 100 bucks nice.

This is what we call a Hipster Money Extractor. That's a $20 radio in a fancy box.

U have to side with you. Very cute radio, but way over priced. If it were bigger, more of a table top size. But it's really small and expensive.

I would have liked this better if it was a tube type radio 📻 from the 1950’s, or 1960’s. It looked more like 👍 a Westinghouse, or something. Your friend, Jeff.

I'd be curious to see a comparison between this and the similar looking Greadio and Prunus J-160 (I think you've only done the Prunus). They lack that nifty plug in FM antenna. The Greadio is advertised as 5W and the Prunus is only 3W, but adds FM and micro sd. Is that a new MP3 player?
@todderbert

I reviewed it awhile back. It is used when Bluetooth music is needed for Demonstration.

@@todderbert I thought of getting one of those BT output MP3 players. Nice feature. I agree with Steve that I would love to see it next to the J-160.

A antenna sharing a mini-usb charging port is a recipe for a quick end to the play ability of this radio.which is a shame. The radio sounded good. but FM only and a add on antenna makes this a collectable right next to the detailed auto models in glass cases on a retrp shelve. 73!

I just can't see it vs the (almost as expensive) Sangean WR-7, though if you want a telescoping FM antenna vs a wire you'd have to order one of those made for mobile phones whips with 1/8" plug. My real question vs Prunus, though, is how does it compare to the almost identical looking J-160? The case is metal, but the knob seems to be the same tacky-looking gold painted plastic.

It took me a minute to place the name....then I went and got my Muzen Wild Mini Bluetooth speaker to listen to the rest of this. Metal? Heavy? Expensive? Yep, they've done that before!

I just saw one of these in a doctor's office being used for background music. It sounded pretty good I guess. They'd probably sell more at a lower price point without the gimmicks. $120 - no way. The tube radio they sell used to be called the Tesslor R-601 - I have one and am going to sell it. It's a disappointing radio that's not very loud and has a weak tuner. The little speaker you are testing is meant to look like a mini-Tesslor.

I owned this litle radio in the Rosewood version, nice item. But finally I sold it after I found the Sangean Mozart that surpasses in almost every aspecto. Also expensive but, the best little radio I've ever had. I recommend you make a review of it. Is also sold as model WR-7 in USA and Mozart in Asia.
@radellaf
@radellaf Год назад
I love the WR-7. If they'd make it so the power in didn't interfere with reception so much, it'd be perfect for the size.

They used the same design as the Prunus J-160, something you've reviewed on your channel before!

At US$120 a pop, this radio is more likely to appeal to those who are looking for a conversation piece in their living room, private office or work cubicle. 📻😐 I don't think it costs Muzen that much to fabricate the internal electronics, especially if the OTR Metal uses an inexpensive DSP chip like the Skyworks Si 4825-A10. I'm guessing that half the price of this radio goes into the retro looking briefcase, the high quality paper and print work for the owner's manual, the custom made antenna and the radio's front case. For the asking price, I'd rather spend on another Tecsun PL-660 shortwave receiver, but then the Tecsun's not exactly an attractive looking ornament to grace my living room decor. 😄

Its a nice little radio. But the Prunus J-160 has a lot more features, and cheaper. And even though its plastic, it looks just as Cool! I have the Prunus J-160, and I Love It!!

The Oncheer company came out with a J-160 styled radio with a cloth covering over the speaker, and a realistic wood grain appearance. The dial is sharp as well. Another bonus with the Oncheer is that the battery is replaceable, My Review: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aNaAYBsJ0rU.html

Nice little radio. The key word here is little...I do not understand the trend in making radios as small as possible. This one has face dimensions smaller than the deck of cards. For the price, I am surprised that it doesn't have AM. But I may not be the demographic that Muzen is trying to reach. I may look into buying one of their larger radios if I decide to drop the cash. I don't know why they went with the USB antenna either. It seems kind of proprietary and so unnecessary to be sharing a port double duty with the charger. An RCA connector, or a CoAx jack would be a lot better IMHO. Thanks TB! 😎

It's not worth $120 you can buy a really good vintage radio for that and is way better quality!

How to change the battery of this radio when its life has expired, especially since the radio is closed at the front and back? What is the proper way to open the radio to change the battery?
@todderbert

The manual states that the company does perform battery changes for the owner, but not sure of the cost.

Hej Todderbert thanks for the review the Muzen radio sounds great and a nice looking radio but I also think this radio i way overpriced despite the accessories that come with this radio. For this kind of money i want have more radio bands and features but yes nice gift for someone. But I would also go for the Prunus radio and you can change the batteries in the Prunus and rechargeable or, you can have regular batteries is a big bonus in the Prunus radio that you showed. So the Prunus radio have more features but yes Muzen radio looks very nice but, for this kind of money I would personally buy a a great shortwave radio take care Todderbert and have a nice sunday.

I notice this works only below 3,000 meters. Obviously this depends on a certain level of oxygen. Probably has something to do with the spontaneous dancing this may produce in low levels of O2 which may trigger loss of consciousness, heart attack, or stroke. This is a device which should be approved by the FDA, for obvious reasons.

For the money, no! You can get a cool boombox for a little less that has more features and much louder.. or you could just get a little world band for a lot less that has great reception
