Just and FYI, try shooting three pellets, 150 grains and see if it doesn't tighten up your groups a bunch. Yes, recoil is sort of brutal on the bench but you're going to shoot one shot in the field usually and when that big buck is in front of you, you're not going to notice that recoil hardly at all. I've watched many videos now where that hotter load did wonders for groups, even with bullets that didn't shoot well at all with a 100-grain load behind them.

Give Blackhorn 209 powder. a try I know it's not as convenient but I promise you it will change the way you think about muzzle loader performance. You can shoot 20 or more shot's without cleaning and when you do clean it's super simple. Also good call on switching from the powerbelts,

Thanks for the info. I will give it a try. I bought a container of blackhorn 209 this year to take to the range just haven’t gotten around to trying it yet. Very unhappy with the powerbelts accuracy and performance. Gotten lucky finding more than one animal because we had no blood trail to follow. One of the guys in camp in western Kentucky this year was using 250 grain aerolite knocked a giant buck on the ground he got up and ran away. Never found blood hair nothing and never recovered the deer. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment

I am currently running 85grs of Triple Seven FFFg powder, a Barnes 290gr T-EZ sabot, and Federal 209 primer out of my CVA Accura PR. Not a blistering fast combo but will knock the snot out of a deer at my normal ranges (under 100yds). I sighted in at 75yds and am getting about 1.25” groups. It is also fairly easy on the shoulder. I am sure I can tweak it to shoot a little tighter group but it works good enough.

Hornady SST-ML Bullets and Powerbelt Bullets are different as day and night. I've always believed in Powerbelt until l started hunting with them. There is no blood trail at all and the deer runs 50 are more yards. Hornady SST-ML is a massive blood trail and maybe only 20yrds. And they shoot a tighter group.
@JarvisOutdoors

Couldn’t agree with you more. We have only taken one deer with the SST-ML so far and it preformed perfectly. Awesome blood trail fast recovery. Tighter more consistent groups vs the powerbelts for sure.

Hey Jarvis! I am convinced that you're a nice guy by the way you handle the less than positive comments from people! Keep up the good instructional videos! My story is that I am nearly 68 yrs old and live in West Ky and have drawn an LBL (Land Between The Lakes in West Ky) Muzzleloader quota hunt this coming Nov. '21. All of my things are OLD including a...1999 CVA Hunterbolt 50 cal ML, 15 yr old Pyrodex RS loose powder, and 15 yr old #11 CCI percussion caps! I have not shot this ML in nearly 15 yrs and a gunsmith had to remove a sabot/bullet and three 30 gr pellets that I was too afraid to remove but were NOT STUCK! I had left these loaded in the rifle...yeah I am a DUMBASS! Yesterday I shot a 3/4" 2 shot group @ 100 yds. from solid sand bands on a solid table w/ a cheap Bushnell Banner scope 3-9x40 that I recently mounted! I raised the horizontal reticle 12 clicks to achieve 3" higher impact point and hit dead on the elevation and 2" to the left with only one shot. Load was the aforementioned 90 grains Pyrodex RS/CCI #11 standard caps, and Hornady 180gr /44 cal hollow point bullet XLT's in the 50 cal Hornady green #6750 sabot. I agree with your recommendation to swap after each shot, and I use 3 patches flippin them once using plain water being wrung out (damp not wet), then a dry patch and then firing one cap before loading the powder. Loose powder and Hornady bullets is my ticket and I don't shoot that much so pellets are not beneficial for me! Happy Hunting folks! You have to spend the time and money to get superior results!

That’s great. I’m glad you’ve found a good load for your gun. I shot yesterday with the same load we have been using but I started using a Muzzleloader Precision Packer loading device (video to come shortly) and we were shooting less than 1” groups at 100 yards and about 2.5” groups at 150 yards which I believe was the shooter not the gun (lol). Good luck on your hunt. We will be in Western Kentucky again this year for the Muzzleloader season. Stay safe!!!

I've never even seen a box of White-Hot pellets where I live but the T-7 Firestar pellets are everywhere, and I like them three of them being 33 grain pellets and a little stronger than most other pellets is a hundred grain equivalent load. With the SST's it's a very accurate combination in all three of my CVA's. I'd like to try the Blackhorn 209 but again, have never seen a can of it here and the price of it is just stupid high right now. If the price were to come back down to earth I'd sure try it though. I did buy the 209 breech plug just in case I do run into some one of these days.

Blackhorn powder and Barnes tmz's give me all touching at 100 yards. When you load pellets I've seen test that if you crush them accuracy can suffer. Preloads load in the field just as fast as pellets so not worth the trouble to me, plus you can adjust your load easily with loose powder. Sst's are an accurate bullet as well they just leave a small hole and little blood for me. Still work though.

Good video Jarvis, but what is your preferred loading? 100 Gr or 150 (magnum), and I've found that White Hots are great, easier to clean an can be fired more frequently without swabbing the barrel between shots, but I'm liking the new Triple 7 Fire Starters.

I shoot 100 grain equivalent of the Firestar pellets and the 250 grain SST's. Very accurate combination. I've shot four Firestar pellets a couple of times for 132 grain equivalent and found the recoil to not be worth the gain in velocity. Unless your hunting T-Rex or elephants I see no reason to do so. You'll gain about 200 FPS in velocity and (Double) the felt recoil.

Any convenience obtained by the pellets is negated by the loss of accuracy. BlackHorn 209 is the best propellant on the market for front stuffers. Watch any other video where people chrono the loads. Standard deviation is always the lowest on BlackHorn, even less deviation than loose 777. Plus you don't have to swab between shots. I've shot 10+ times on the range without swabbing. You can reload and fire again fast enough to open up the group from barrel heating. BlackHorn 209 must be used with a full power primer, I use W209, but I've heard people get consistent result from the Federal 209A as well. As far as projectiles, I've personally used Hornady SSTs and Barnes Spitfire TMZ. They're the only 2 ML bullets I'll use. Consistent results, even at 200yds they expand.

@@cdegenova1761 250gr. The economical choice will the SST. You get 20 for your $20, Barnes only gets you 15 for $20, but they're solid copper so they do cost more. They'll both do the job.
