I ride the MV Agusta B3 800 Brutale, the "ride by wire" is something to get use to. The bike itself handles incredibly well. I'm super happy with my choice of bike.

We agree the MV is gorgeous, but as we noted in the story: "When you tout your product as “Motorcycle Art,” small imperfections such as these haphazard breather tubes and ill-routed clutch cable are inexcusable."

Street triple r is the best bike I've ever owned. Not even close. Handling, speed, easy going - it does it all, save touring. Triumph has outdone themselves with this one!

only a moto journalist would imply the speed 3 was porky and didn't handle. Ya. I have one and it's a friggin thrill a minute. It can Tour, carve, commute you name it. I have a standard with fly screen, belly pan, arrow pipes and brembo brakes. I paid 8560 OTD. There are deals out there. The FZ09 is a great bike but there is no way it outshines a speed 3 or even a street. I don't care how old the design is.

Well you'll be riding on your triumph triple, whichever one and the others will just be copies... Triumph triples will allways have their "special" factor a step higher than all the others.

If you like the MV (expensive tough).. you should give a try to the Brutale dragster, the ride by wire is perfect... allows you different engine maps, say the proportion throttle vs handle position.. TC and 200mm RR tire...

Good comparison guys, really enjoyed the footage and comments. But, I must agree with Lord Triumph (as below). I own one of the first speed Triple R's, purchased just after release in 2012 and it is by far the best bike I have owned. The R handles as well as my previous Daytona 675, the Ohlins TTX rear and forks are exceptional and it handles like it is on rails in the wet and dry on all types of road conditions. All of my riding mates who have tried it confirm this saying the handling is much better than their own bikes bar none (they own late model Ducati, Honda, Yamaha and MV Augusta). Yes, it's expensive but the extra bucks for the PVM forged wheels, new gearbox, Ohlins suspension, Brembo Monoblocks and the Carbon Fibre bits are exceptional value when you add up what it would cost to fit them off the shelf to the standard model. I would love to try the Brutale though as have heard great things about it (but I would never sell the Triumph so I guess I am a bit biased! ;-) Cheers, Andy.

It is. Take your time. You're better off a Street Triple. Much easier to control, not much less power and much lighter. And to be honest? The Street Triple is the better bike. It'll exceed your expectations.

Tru. After all the farkles you would be right there with the triumph if not more. But we are talkin within a $1000 of each other even if the yami is more with farkles. At that point its subjective. Styling, riding position, engine, feel, reliability.

Ive ridden all these bikes. Take the " ride by wire" comments with a grain of salt. The MV is phenomenal. The Yamaha is awesome. The suspension is just fine. Its nonadjustable. Big deal. A request. Instead of saying "this bike," "that bike," and "the one in the middle," please say the name of the bike. Or at least show it on camera. Whenever one guy said "the one(s) in the middle, the camera showed a different bike. A second request: Please don't interrupt someone while he's making a point, even if he's the smallest guy in the group. I never heard his point about the Yamaha. In general, nice to see these comparos.

I looked at the aprilia turono but had no dealership within 300 miles. By far its a sick bike, but the maintenance that goes along with it is unreal. I choose the 675 r over the fz-09 due to a lesser suspension and brakes. The instrument panel is too small and looks like yamaha stole half of it from a rc51. Coming off liter bike I find myself wanting an all around bike that is flawless. Triumph keeps thier engine at 675 for a reason. There is a 800cc after market kit.

Triumph eh.? They have watched the other 3's coming on for the past few years and.. watched.! They could either put a Daytona kit into the 'Street' or, also use their XC as a base and produce their own 800 Street. Job done. Sorted. But it's Triumph. Despite banging on at them for years in the UK to produce 250cc learner bikes and double it to 500 for learner riding schools.. which can equally be used as bikes for private owners.. they, Triumph, have sat and.. watched.! Such bikes should be offered as packages to riding schools.. Honda knew this years ago.. "Catch them at the start and they'll stay with you." So Honda, having been out of the 500 market for years.. bring in the new CB500 and they're flying out of the showrooms. And the schools are queuing up for deals.. Funny that. job done then.. Triumph eh.. WF

Why is it that Motorcycle.com (and really ALL review channels) NEVER touch on reliability? Certainly, as riders that's not neccessarily foremost on our minds, but it is a factor in purchasing a new bike. Knowing that there's been CCT issues with the Yamaha or gasket seal (oil leakage) on some of the Triumphs is useful information and absolutely relevant. But you never hear from these glorified advertisers. Are the videos for us, the users, or for the manufacturers? Seems like the latter.

I don't think there's any difference in the components on the ST versus STR suspension except the adjusters. Both are KYB. You'll also have trouble paying anything less than MSRP for the R whereas standard you might. Don't forget the standard ABS on the triumphs, Monoblock brakes on the R are probably uneccessary for most people. I rode the FZ09, I wanted to like it but the front end is garbage

I am simply torn between the FZ-07 and FZ-09, I haven't seen many reviews on the FZ-07 from the big bike mags other than MCN. I don't hear much issue about the suspension as well on the FZ-07, but you can't outgrow the FZ-09. Maybe do a big brother & little brother comparison?
@Ezethede
@Ezethede 10 лет назад
I'm kind of in the same boat, I have found a few reviews if you look under MT-07 which is the same bike. Surprisingly, for a twin the FZ-07 sounds incredible with that crossplane ignition and a decent aftermarket exhaust.
@SkyFalllast
@SkyFalllast 10 лет назад
Eric Bruns yeah, I just started watching the average Joe's opinion of the machine and it seems to come across as a strong Kawasaki Ninja 650 rival. The Yamaha wins hands down in the looks department and price (IMO). I also watched a couple of aftermarket exhaust vids. I like the short Arrow can without a dB killer & the Akropovich sounds just mean all around. I have decided to go with the FZ-07 after seeing a couple people take on the highway doing 85mph easily.

valebliz although it does look better in person. the banana seat kills it for me personally. yeah it has the beefier engine but with the mapping issues and greater fuel consumption I can't justify it for me. From what I have read and seen, to get the FZ about equal with STriple you are easily spending as much and more. Check out Motorcyclist Magazine. The Ducati 848 streetfighter trumps all these bikes. Triumph need to produce an 800 street triple which should be relatively easy since they already produce an 800 triple in the guise of the Explorer. They need to stop focusing too much on cruisers and start producing more exciting machines like a 1050 Daytona and a 800 Street Triple.

Why stop at 800cc?
@FlowDesign82
@FlowDesign82 10 лет назад
I've made a test ride on the 848 SF when it was brand new, but the engine didn't quite deliver the "Ooompf" I expected from a 2-cyl engine. The handling though is very very good. Especially in high speed corners it's like on rails. But if you like the oompf, get yourself a Speed :) If the handling of the Brutale 800 would be fixed I would be interested to try it to replace my '08 Speedy, but I'd prefer a 800 cc Street R. For now the better choice for me would be to upgrade my suspension instead of spending money on a Brutale. I don't like the looks of the Yamaha and the Street doesn't deliver enough power for my liking (I owned a '07 Daytona 675 before the Speed).

In the 80's and 90's yamaha's super-sport bikes were called FZ-R 1000, FZ-R 600, etc in the USA. In the 2000's they started calling these bikes R1, R6... So the FZ name is just a reference to their older line of Sportbikes.

Seems to me that these days Yamaha make great engines but not great bikes. I'll stick with my Street Triple R.

I love your vids Except for the metronome-like background music (pseudo-music, really) that is attempting to drive me crazy! I want to listen to What YOU are Saying, not listen to TickTock and Vroom-vroom sound effects. Why, oh why, are the background distractions necessary?

Is that blonde guy slow? He can barely articulate any points he makes in any video I've seen him in.

Fz09 is a excellent motor in a bike plagued by, Poor suspension, Bad ride by wire map,and bad brakes. They took time on the engine but the bike seemed to be a rush job. Despite these things for the price out of the lot I'd take it and fix it and end up with a better bike. That motor Ohh man.

I really don't like the Brutale . Mv Augusta copied Ducati's design . Brutale was copied from Monster , F4 was copied from Ducati 999 and Rivale was copied from Hypermotard . Fucking overpriced copycats 😡.
