Wearing that exact MWC today and it's a superb watch. It's since be uprated with a 10 year battery and sapphire crystal. I've never seen the CWC version but I'm never paying current retail for one.
I bought a black PVD MWC quartz diver nearly 20 years ago for maybe £50. I don't wear it any more but it still works just fine. I keep it in case I need a watch to do some (god forbid) 'industrial' work.
Hey Pete, you're on a roll with your recent vids! I owned the MWC and found it to be a nice watch with a great bezel action and crown action as well. And it wore well on the wrist too. The thing that bothered me about it was the hour hand was noticeably narrower than the CWC. I tried to get past that but in the end I flipped it but I still wish they'd use the wider one like the CWC.
Really nice comparison vid! I think these are really helpful to anyone looking to decide which watch to buy. I agree--go with the MVC. To me, the line doesn't have to be flashlight bright as long as there's some legibility in the dark. Thanks again!
The MWC is a nice looking diver Pete! By the way I received my Sturmanskie Dolphin only yesterday here in Australia! Wearing it now watching your vid. The NATO you swapped out looks good!👍🏼 The best thing about tritium is it just glows 24/7 & yeah can last more than a life time.😎🇦🇺
I don't have any problem whatsoever with homages, and the MWC looks pretty good. But the lines of the case look a little off, and most importantly, lacks the full polish of a CWC (which to me is a key aspect of the 'look'). No doubt, CWC watches are EGREGIOUSLY overpriced, and trade on their history and name cache. Over $2500 for the automatic RN Diver? Laughable! But for me, especially as someone who doesn't & has never sold one of his watches (too lazy!), if I'm going to get one of these watches, it's going to be the real deal CWC, as I'm going to have it for the rest of my life. Hope that makes sense! The quartz RN divers pop up on Watchrecon for around $500 a few times a month. I'll probably snag one of those. Great video, Pete!
I agree with your MWC comment. I have the same model and I’m still saving for a CWC diver purely due to the slight differences in case shape. I do want to add that the CWC also comes in a matte finish and brushed finish versions in addition to the full polished version. The MWC also definitely doesn’t have tritium despite the T marking. It’s some sort of modern chargeable loom and it’s pretty bad.
Cool picks. I'm thinking about something like these. Waiting for possible sale before I pull the trigger. Enjoy your truth about lume. Although it still is important for me, the show in the dark is only best at the beginning. After that, if I'm going to be in the dark that long, I'll likely have fallen asleep, anyways. Keep up the great work.
Are you sure the MWC is true tritium applied lume? Older pre 1999 dials with tritium paint is a mixture of radioactive infused gas H3 tritium in a powder form mixed with zinc sulfide to create the constant glow. It is the radioactive tritium bombarding the zinc sulfide that results in the glow. Unlike older and much hotter Radium used on watches prior to around 1963, tritium was an "agreed effort" by the Swiss watch companies to reduce radioactive exposure to the wearer so they switched to the lower radioactive Tritium compound which has a half life of 12.5 years and 20 years or so latter would be near fully depleted. Keep in mind the 12.5 years is only the half life so technicaly it would be 24 or so until fully inactive but there is no set time however would be almost dead looking by now only only visible after your eyes adjust to the dark for several minutes and would not take a charge from a light source like luminova\superluminova and hold it. Keep in mind I am not speaking of modern tritium tubes though it utilizes the same principles but encapsulated in a tube instead. Most Swiss companies switched to luminove\superlminove from Tritium around 1998 - 1999. If this reissue MWC 1999 -2000 were true tritium, it would be nowhere near as bright as shown. The benefit of tritium is it needs no external light source to charge up hiowever it's nowhere near supperluminova in brightness after a light charge. I have a 90's Submariner and GMT and can see the tritium lume but after several minutes in the dark after my eyes adjust but it's faint. I am fasinated with tritium applied lume and while today's watch companies will no longer use it (unless it is in encapsulated form like Ball and other companies, incuding MWC uses), I'd love to get my hands on a fresh one to see how bright they really were when new.
Just like all homage watches, I know if I buy one, I'll regret not just using the money and put towards the watch I actually crave. MWC looks a very decent watch though
Great video, thank you. I've got a question: are they loud? My MDV-106 is very quiet, but my seikos are loud. The kind of loud you can hear at the other side of the room when you're reading. I'd really appreciate your input.
@@ChillinwitWatches Thanks for answering so fast. The QM's are at a really low price right now. If you had to keep only one, would you be happy with the quality of it?
I have had an MWC watch. Lets be perfectly clear here, MWC is a marketing excercise that has the watches made in China and shipped to Europe. Its no different to buying a Heimdallr or San Martin or Steeldive. The watches are OK quality. They are hugely overpriced as you are paying for a perceived military connection that does not exist. It doesn't matter what it says on the case back - if it Said Mickey Mouse it doesn't mean Mickey wore it.....Further to this CWC are also overpriced for the actual quality of the item. The perception that CWC are really tough watches is a misnomer - you break something in the Army/Navy you get a bollocking and a replacement.
@@dinner_workingsly I don't know much about it, but tritium is what was on submariners and seamasters, etc. until the late 90's. The phosphor used in it will still charge from light like modern lume, or something... Lol
MWC do not make issue watches. They are a rip of CWC watches. They are not 'new old stock'. If they didn't keep up this 'military issue' nonsense and just came out and said 'homage' they would sell more. Baltany do the same watch and market it as a homage. They are Chinese copies and should be viewed as such. I have had a MWC chronograph and it was good quality - just quit with the 'military issue' and enjoy it for what it is or save up for the CWC.
