Thanks again to Will for the loan of this fine tactical timepiece. Perhaps not tougher than a G-Shock but a serious tool for people who like to rough it. Or a perfect no nonsense 'grab and go' that will tick for a decade between 50c batteries. Scotsman approved. Cheers, Jody

This watch was given to me as a graduation gift from my first fire academy, and has faithfully served as my duty watch since then. I quickly ditched the strap for a rubber one, as as odor and bacteria retention became a concern, working around bodily fluids that are often not my own. The styling certainly may not be for everyone, but my watch has taken several ferocious knocks during calls and during training and continues to perform flawlessly.

Good timing Jody, I just received my GSAR yesterday and don't see it coming off my wrist any time soon! Realise there are cheaper H3 options, but the military diver look seems a bit more versatile than the 'combat trousers mandatory' army surplus look and the GSAR also wears really comfortably. H3 also definitely a bonus if you're getting up with small kids at all hours of the night!!

It is a version of the Traser Commander P6506 titanium watch (MIL-W-46374F). Absolutely bullet proof 200m WR, Ronda 715. I have had it for 22 years and it has survived some serious abuse. The bezel is plastic and has been ground and polished by time and friction to the point the numerals are no longer properly visible. I wish I could get a replacement bezel since the case is still as new, proper tough watch highly recommended.

MWC has so many watches that I love. My fav is a Ti G10 w/Tritium tubes. 40mm solid lug bars. It's the modern update of the classic G10. Domed Sapphire w/anti glare. Same Rhonda Swiss 10yr movt. MWC constantly makes milspec with extra features that other brands miss & charge you a lot more.

I have looked at MWC watches several times in the past. They have some incredible G10 type watches that look really great but I have heard mixed reviews about the MWC company itself. I was really happy to see you review one of these watches to get an honest take on this watch company before I took the dive myself on one of their watches. Great review and very nice watch submitted by one of your fans for review. Big thanks to William as well for donating the watch for review.

Based on this video I purchased one of these and Its quite a nice watch. The second hand does not quite line up with the second markers but its so minor as to be a non-issue. I wore it to bed and was surprised how much light the T25 tubes give off. I puts better strap on it and I have not taken it off since. Thanks for the suggestion and the video!

Looks like a great budget alternative to a TSAR, though personally I'd stick with Marathon. One thing I dislike about the dial is the way the tritium tubes are oriented at the hour markers. It's not important for the hours themselves, but it makes getting a good time estimate harder than when the tubes line up with the hands as they pass.

I wore a traser that looked a lot like this. Still have it. But the tritium lume has faded to the point where it's almost completely gone, and overall there's not much to these. IMO a solar powered watch with traditional lume and UV LED is much more practical long-term. No battery to swap, no tritium half-life time to consider.

Great review. I'd like to see you review Bertucci's A-4T "Super Yankee" lluminated, to see how it stacks up. I have been rocking the smaller A-2T, and been loving it. You have to be ok with nato straps, but the 4 o'clock crown makes it super comfy, and the lack of dive bezel kind of brings down that "tactical" look a bit. Awesome work watch.

I'm glad to see MWC get some review time. Thank you! I have this watch in the date version... bought it after I bought the titanium tritium and superluminova one without a rotating bezel. LOVE that one on a FKM strap and wear it when I come home and through the night. I'm not a fan of the crown on this one as well, and the bezel action is a bit light for me. Also MWC hasn't really updated the tritium hands on the titanium models whereas they have nicer new stainless styles. I have Victorinox, Traser, G-shocks (MTG and others), Luminox, etc. but keep checking MWC for new titanium models. Excellent, highly durable no fuss watch. They have automatics also.

Purchesed this watch a few years ago. I got a good deal as it was a display model. The only negatives are they use some weak photo luminescent materal on the bezel pip. This material broke off very quickly. Also there is no tritium used on the seconds hand. This watch is about as plain jane as it could be. It is a VERY functional and packed with many excellent features. I don't regret getting this watch. Excellent review Jory.

Video in the usual quality, thanks for that! Normally I´m not into such hybrid-watches. But this watch has so many detail solutions that in summary built a very attractive challenger in the wide range of millitary style watches!
@nirfz
@nirfz 2 года назад
I would argue that it's not about depth, but what the watchseals will withstand. Casio (don't know if they still do) had relatable things in their manuals about water resistance... If i remember correct they stated: 5bar (ATM)=50m is fine for putting your hand under water washing the watch ect. 10 bar = 100m Is fine for swimming (and snorkeling), jumping into water. 20 bar = 200m is fine for diving, jumping, water skiing, jumping from higher distances ect. i don't remember if they had 300m or 30bar in the chart. It just means that the seals are generous enough that even if the watch is a few years old, you probably will still be fine jumping into water with it from 10+ meters height, or when some fluid under pressure hits the watch ect.

Hey Jody -- If you are looking at tritium, take a look at Deep Blue (microbrand). Hi Jody The watch comes in a small flat tin. Designed to take up as little stores space as possible. Not as tough as a G shock, but the casio doesn’t meet the spec….well the fonts aren’t correct etc.etc. In practice most of the services don’t bother to get a watch from stores because it is booked out to you and they want it back so nice as it is a G is cheap and much less hassle.

Personally, I think the watch is as thin as it be with what it contains inside, considering the massive battery under the caseback and the tritium tubes on the hour/minute markers which need to be stacked on top of each other (which is probably why the second hand omits the tritium tube - it is probably to shave off that millimeter off the case height). Very similar to my Luminox Navy Seal beater, and it’s certainly been abused but never lets me down - haven’t put my old Sub on since I can’t remember when.

I'll stick to my Victorinox INOX Quartz as a G-Shock alternative. As a forever watch, I also have a GS Tough Solar Resin, on point.

I was kind of hoping for a "Project Farm" type comparison where you smashed both watches with a 2 lb hammer in a test fixture repeatedly until failure. But I do like the look of it.

G shock are good but beware of condensation inside the glass. Unfortunately LCD got damaged on my mudman G 9000 because of this. Going to buy another module and pop it in.

Is there a reason the tritium vials of the indices are not in line with the hands? Looks to me like a missed opportunity to make it easier to read. My G-shock with it's advertized "10 year battery" is running running for the 15th year now on the first battery. (GW-2900)

This watch almost has what I need for work. Almost. A quartz movement is a deal killer for me, and I need T100, not T25 as it will last decades longer. I had been using a Deep Blue Tritdiver for work, but the crown threads keep striping. It looks like the only option right now is the Marathon SAR.

Great review. This is a very nice watch. Tritium is a question mark for me. Most of my watches are 'buy and hold'. If you buy a watch with tritium illumination - can you replace the tubes at the end of their service life? Having a watch destined to fall victim to a 'use before' date bothers me.

Any watch under $500 is 'disposable' to my thinking. From there the next level is around $5k, where now a piece is worth servicing.

I went out to buy some camo clothing, but could not spot any:-) Watch spec is for a disposable watch - worrying. Paint on bezel looks rubbish in the macro, anti reflective is a must on a tactical watch - still like it though.

Very nice watch indeed, I picked one up at the ex-display model price and seems like a solid watch. My only concern is the watch pip. How secure is that pip glued on? Will it hold up to bumps and scrapes?

Strange that they were so meticulous about so many things for the watch's "purpose," but something as obvious as the reflection off the glass was neglected.

I'll be honest, I'm surprised by how much I like the look of this watch. It doesn't fit my style at all, but I love the pure uncompromising functionality of it. It makes some Swiss watches that claim to be rugger look uselessly overdesigned and overpriced. I'd never wear this type of watch if I bought one, but I'm in love with the looks of it 😅

I had an MWC. The hands fell off. I was given to understand that this was common place. I dont think you can beat a G shock for a beater, ( I'm ex millitary).

As an auto mechanic I put my beater watches through hell. I have no doubt it’s tough but the DW5600 (most often) and Certina DS quartz (that is one seriously tough little bastard) are my grab and go workhorse choices. They have never let me down and while the Casio will scratch up pretty well over time it’s only about $45 to replace and the Certina just will not scratch. At all. Damn thing is designed to be dropped on concrete from over 6 meters and take no damage. Both together can be had for less than half of that one. Still it’s pretty neat, I like the Tacticool look and tritium.

@Roberto Vidal Garcia agreed. The Casio G-Shock is just so close to being perfect apart from the poor lume and cheap glass. I wonder what is holding them back.

But is it tougher than a G-shock? I've wondered that since Casio makes both digital and analog- is the analog less impact resistant than the digital? I like the look of this watch, mostly because I have a couple of similar Luminox beaters that I wear most nights for the tritium function. A Luminox can be very expensive new but I bought mine used, well used, for low price and they still work well. I don't pay much attention to lume because I know that no matter how bright it starts out, in the middle of the night it is gone, but tritium is much more functional for me. I especially like the large flat tubes that Deep Blue puts in some of its watches.

I have a US military watch that's almost exactly the same as this, titanium, sapphire crystal, no branding, tritium rubes and a gold plated jeweled Swiss ronda quartz the only branding is on the back saying made by lumi whatever and some military looking numbers. Polymer/ carbon bezel. How much are the originals like I have worth, its definstly from the 90s. But it has a 2 or 3 battery life movement.

Baltany - AliExpress do a copy of British 50s issue. A good copy/homage. The MWC has a reputation of - false claims of government contracts. Bit of a bone of contention to some. They're ok for the price. A Marathon jsar is the way forward.

I’ve owned a few MWC watches and they’ve all been great for casual MIL spec look wear - even their cheapest £30 field watch is well made - no doubt they’re pretty tough and up to the job most people will throw at them - but G-Shock tough? I’d say not
