My sled just got delivered today. I ordered it on July 4th, and it showed up here in Colorado on July 9th! This thing came from Slovakia! Nuts! Really appreciate your vids on this set up. Inspired me to build my own from 80/20 aluminium to your plans I bought from you on Etsy. I'm using mine to remove wood veneer from these 9' x 3' doors I made where the veneer started bubbling. There's nothing like this on the market at the moment unbelievably and I will end up spending around $1200 all included, and worth every penny. Nice one geez!

You could literally quadruple your output with one of these. I've used both handmade wood ones and one like this and did the sister slab in 1/4 of the time and required less planing

I just bought the TOT! which I'm super excited about. I'm buying the 80/20 now, but how do you do any work-holding if you were to flatten any smaller pieces? If there was a plywood base you could drill those holders right into it, but is there any special holders that would be able to clamp into the extrusion? Thanks!

Have you re sawed an epoxy wood piece a bandsaw? If so how do you find the blade managing with the epoxy. I have tried several and the blade seem to really dull after just a few cuts. Was using a timberwolve 3 tpi (5/8 "), and had to replace it after 2 attempts at resawing.

Mate, that thing just slices through like it's butter! 👌 That dust hose seems to be a pain in the bum. Any place to mount something like a PVC pipe up right to house the hose above head height? So it is maybe on like a bit of an angle but higher than your head so it kind of forms like an arch over you so you don't have to step over the hose? Just a thought, no idea what I'm talking about really....lol 😂😂😂

It's always easier to buy a ready made machine if you can afford it 😉 I probably can't afford this but thank you for sharing it with us, it has given me some ideas to maybe build my own. Off topic, am I the only one that finds it distasteful that TOT uses the connection of wood dust with cancer on their front page, is it meant to frighten you into buying? Why don't they just provide free dust masks with their kit? Anyways, thanks for sharing.

Hi Andy, I've been building this system over the past couple of days and Vlado at TOT has been super helpful. However, RUWI tell me that their quick clamps will only work with 8mm slots, but the TOT sled is built with 10mm slots. I know you built yours before getting the TOT carriage. Did you use 8mm slots on your profile, or do the RUWI clamps actually work with 10mm? Many thanks, Alan

@mythicislepro

Nathan Schafer I too tried using the the relatively affordable UK and EU extrusion companies but they didn’t ship or the shipping ended up being crazy expensive. In the end the company that gave me the best price on extrusion for the Mega MFT design was MISUMI. It wasn’t cheap, about $1000. I can extrapolate from that though that the extrusion for this sled should clock in for a few hundred less at least, maybe somewhere in the $600-$700 range.

I think the router sled is probably a better solution for very wide slabs and much easier to handle as the router does all the fine settings but the plane is lead on those beams probably the fastest solution if you can be bothered to build and set up the carriage for it
@austin357
@austin357 4 года назад
I don’t believe that is enough dust collection for that rate for material removal, if TOT want to claim they are saving you from wood dust hazards using this inside, they should be accomodating at least a 125mm+ dust port for more air flow volume. If the chips aren’t being collected, the air velocity at the cutter is too low for my liking.
