There’s a presence dial on the inside you can adjust. Turn it all the way right to 0 to sound more like the King of Tone/Prince of Tone. King of Tone comes stock with the presence dial on 0.

The Duke of Tone is a fine pedal, as is MXR's version of a Timmy(and this is coming from someone who owns an actual Timmy V3 and a Tim). Mike PIera and Paul Cochrane are two highly particular individuals and two chronic perfectionists, they REFUSE to sign off on a pedal they do not like or they do not deem up to par. That is one of the reasons why both of them have waiting lists and can take a long time to acquire new. If Cochrane and Piera did not like the MXR versions of their pedals, trust me, they would not have gotten released. The MXR versions might not sound exactly like a Timmy, KOT, or POT, but that's not the point either. The point is, Paul Cochrane and Mike Piera collaborated with Jeorge Tripps and the Dunlop team to create a pedal in their respective flavors.

I just got an email saying a v3 is for sale. What styles of overdrives would you compare it to? They are all using the same descriptions it’s hard for me to tell not having played it.

@@bojangles6444 if you have ever played a Greer lightspeed or a JHS morning glory, it is very similar. The V3’s toggle is a gain switch. On the High gain mode, you get a very nice “glassy” tone reminiscent of SRV if you’re using a Stratocaster. A Timmy just gets a long with anything

@@bojangles6444 They can be used as an always on pedal and as a "pre-amp," but they also work great as a low-medium gain overdrive due to their wide EQ range. The V3 also works wonderfully as a high gain drive due to it's high gain mode. Overall, a Timmy has a very "flat" frequency range, but it can have a 720hz-670hz similar to a Tube Screamer with the treble and bass knobs turned down.

RJ, QUESTION??? Is this pedal supposed to broadcast a FUZZ sound when the drive is up past 12 o'clock.... Do you think that is a defect? In your demo yours does not present that FUZZ sound I get with mine, hmmm

You must be using a compressor, because there is a huge difference in volume between the OD mode and the boost when I switch mine.

Love your review of this pedal. To many people only use a single coil to demo it. I have made my decision to get this pedal I feel it's versatile enough for rock and country. I will be using iton my laney pedal clean tone and for a boost on my distortion channel also

I have this pedal , Klon KTR and a vintage Marshall Guv'nor . The Marshall covers the real heavy stuff . The KTR and TDOT are so close but have the 5% difference that work for me . TDOT is the best pedal for the money . $150 is fair . I play through my Marshall JCM 900 4100 , 4/12's . I bought that amp in 1999 when I was 19 LOL . I know it gets a bad wrap but I think it sounds great . But using those pedals while my amp is slightly driven is a great sound . The first round of Dukes are sold out everywhere and now we wait for the 2nd batch . I hope they don't rush the build . The first batch are the ones to find , the 2nd batch will never sound as good . The 2nd Batch is made with cheaper parts . The first batch is made with magical crystal diodes from mars HAHA . Now I list it on Reverb LOL jk

It really brings the strat tone to life - sounds awesome. For the les paul I did not think it necessarily added much because with the gibson's that kind of tone is already kind of expected, but for the strat the pedal seemed to help reach another dimension of tone. Was that your experience hearing it in the same room as you did the video?

Cant wait for the preorder to start rolling out. I do think its crazy that it hasn't released yet and is already just about sold out at Sweetwater and wont be available again till sometime 2023 according to my sales rep. (I was told that my preorder slot wasnt until around late October, so already after the release date, or could even be delayed, and the next batch would be sometime into next year) The KoT, PoT, and now DoT are such a demanding product that even the intended mass produced version is backed up before its release. Crazy man! But yea i cant wait to try it out, and try stacking it before the blues breaker side of the Kasleder Fx Toxic Twins. Definitely will keep me more than content while i wait the 4-5 years for my name to come up on the waitlist. Haha.

The Sugar Drive (mini) and Fat Sugar (Guitar Center exclusive, regular sized) are Klon-esque. I doubt that Bill Finnegan would go for a joint production/licensing, but I would be happily proven wrong!

There is a demo comparison on RU-vid, saw it 2 days ago. A tad bit more bottom end from the full size, but barely noticeable and barely an issue at all.
