Today, we're taking a ride in the Il Diavolo, from MXR. The MXR crew joined forces with Carlo Sorasio of Italy'`s LAA Custom to develop a creamy overdrive that's rich with harmonic content. The Il Diavolo was designed from the ground up to provide a refreshing midrange character with a super tight low end that appeals to lead and rhythm players alike. The Drive control's range is exceptionally wide, giving you a glassy low-gain tone at one end and a devilishly grimy crunch at the other. The Hi-Lo switch is extremely interactive with the Drive control, as delivers either asymmetrical silicon clipping (LOW) or symmetrical LED clipping (HI). These two carefully-curated clipping sections along with the center position that omits diodes help carve your sound into new shapes, with the Drive knob riding shotgun. The Il Diavolo also stacks well with your existing dirt arsenal, imparting its character onto each pedal before or after without taking over your tone. Players using it as the only drive pedal in the stable will have no problem pushing even the most stubborn amps into overdrive, because the Il Diavolo contains so much gain and output volume. And just like all MXR pedals, the Il Diavolo is designed and manufactured right here in the States.

Reminds me of my MXR Il Torino, also designed by Sorasio. I really like that pedal, and I'm surprised it wasn't a bigger hit.

May I suggest to try it even with higher voltage than 9VDC, it sound bigger and the dynamics will be enhanced. Great Demo, as always!!

Carlo Sorasio how high of a voltage can this pedal take? 12v? 18v?
@ahiddenoddity

I'm guessing you said this and then realized you shouldn't have? Your comment is literally the only information on operating this pedal at a higher voltage. Is it safe, or should you delete your comment?

Carlo, was there intention to pair this with Il Torino as a stacked setup?

Does any one else's room look like the bridge of the Enterprise when they turn their lights out? I have been accumulating pedals since the late 70s and went over 100 recently with the La Grange. Starting to realize we have come full circle and 3/4 are redundant. No doubt addicting.

I told ya I had accumulated enough pedals to open a store. I have 6, pedal loopers that can run 8 each. I have one dedicated to the various overdrives from vintage to modern. In a blind test 3/4 all sound alike. The thing I noticed is in your head you have that "tone" and will always gravitate towards it. So no matter what the amp, the guitar, the pedal, you turn the knobs so they call sound alike. Its like women and shoes. Addicting, impulsive and expensive. Only my Klons and early 1st edition Rats are really worth a lot.

That Epiphone was my first Guitar but all natural and Maple fretboard. Hand me down from big brother. I played that thing 4,6 , sometimes 8 hrs. a day learning myself every chord in those Mel Bay books, then Riffing off those chords and creating my own chords once the book was no longer teaching me anything. I played The Jam and Paul Weller was pretty good at chord progressions and all the easy Punk Rock as this was 1978. I was a California kid from the beach and my Mom dragged me up to a real arm pit called Kelso,Washington. It truly sucked and the Guitar saved my life. Yes, I got the f*** out of there within a few years spending summers with Pops in Pasadena where my brother was in a Punk band, and Van Halen was from and just came out with"You really Got me" & B side "Atomic Punk". I got all those Pacific Northwest kids into Punk and had a pretty good time regardless. I would come up to Portland and hang for 6 months several times throughout the years but I just got homesick. I sometimes miss Skamania County where I lived for a spell as it was gods country but eventually like everything else, Portland went from a quaint depressed Lower middle class town with cheap rent and early 20th century apartments with a Jack Nicholson "The Shining" antiquity, went and got a makeover then turned itself into a "Hip,Slick,Cool, & Trendy overpriced Mini-Seattle with transplanted Yuppies and Dink Douches, and became another oversized gentrified Coffee House,Cycle Shop, and Co-op garden freak show. Sometimes I miss the Outskirts, Hiking, and Beauty of the Columbia Gorge. Just call me "Sunshine". The Epiphone Wiltshire or 296T or some sh**. Great Guitar. Nice Slide work Mr. Martin. That pedal is pretty cool for several apps. It's Smokey without getting Fuzzy. The Slide was right on time.

I recently purchased this pedal and love the tone of it. One thing I'm confused about is why the Hi/Low toggle switch is super loud in the center but the volume drops very quiet on the Hi and Low setting? Is this normal?

@edadpops1709
@edadpops1709 7 лет назад
Ozzy Pete epi humbucker rings were bigger than Gibson rings, so Andy had custom maple rings cnc routed with the same outside specs and mini bucker cutouts. Then sprayed a vintage creme . Electronics are stock except for paper in oil tone capacitors. Came out great.

Seems like a lot of European builders, or at least every pedal from Finland I have has the jack on the side, below the input jack... (Simble and Darkglass microtubes). (And yes I know the MXR is American made)

Andy has played the '65 DRR since before the '68 reissue had been released. He probably still uses a '65, I haven't seen a pedal demo of him mentioning a switch to the '68.
