MXR M169 Carbon Copy HD 

Hey there. Just want to say that about 7 years ago I took the deep dive into the world of effects pedals. I was searching for a delay pedal and I came upon your video. I instantly bought a Carbon Copy after I saw how amazing it sounded on this video. I still have it glued to my board. Well done!

It does a fairly big difference with trailing notes and chords, as it applies modulation to the repeats only. Also, there are two trimpots inside the pedal which control speed and depth of the modulation. If they are set to the minimum, there won't be much effect. If you play very stacato-y, you won't see much difference even at max mod settings though.

Man, that's what I call a demo. Really nice playing! I've been fiddeling around with delays, TC Electronic X4, T-Rex Honey Drop and the Carbon Copy. I tend to come back to the MXR because it does best what I like: it makes the sound canoynish and very natural. The Carbon Copy doesn't sit on top of the sound. In the end I've found out that I don't need too complicated options, just a nice sounding delay. Your demo helped me understand my needs, the Carbon Copy is the answer :-) Les Paul into an Orange? Yeah, ask Jimmy Page.

which amp do you recommend me? and whats basicaly the difference between thunder and rockerverb amps? My setup right now is Wampler Triple Wreck, Dunlop Slash crybaby wah and Mxr Carbon copy analog delay. im not planning on adding any effects except for a maxon rotary phaser. Thansl and keep up with the good organic and perfect tone cheers from brazil.

This is clearly using a very VERY fresh battery, I'm on a power supply and my repeats are NOT that high. Definitely not complaining! It sounds so good. But if anyone is having problems with the amount of repeats, its your power that determines an analog delay's repeats and the clarity. I'm running a 9v power supply but I wish I had a 12 or 18 for it (I think they both work but not sure).

Seems to be comparable to double exposures on film camera. The second exposure - i.e. the repetition of the guitar signal - has to be darker than the first one - i.e. what is actually played - in order to retain clarity. I guess that kinda makes sense in a way

Can U help me please?? I think I have a problem with the one I have. When i have the reguen more than 12 o'clock i have alot of feedback, the repeats doesnt stop and for each repeat the volume increases until i turn the pedal off.. I don't know where is the problem. must i change the box?. because i bought it in boston and now i'm in Peru. I prove oll things i've change mi cables, and prove tre diferent kind of amps. I'm so frustrated

i know this is an old video but it sounds amazing in front of the amp, i always wanted to avoid the hussle of using the fx loop with all that extra cables and i think this might be it

What pick are you using?

You can also power it at 12v or 18v to fet a brighter tone and more headroom(a bit cleaner/louder less chance of clipping). I talked to mxr directly and they said powering it at 12v would make it sound and react very similar to the carbon copy bright. I think the carbon copy sounds great at 12v and ran it @ 12v for a couple years but now that I use compression an boost/eq in the loop it sounds great at 9v. At 18v it's a little too full sounding and you loose what makes the pedal great in my opinion but I still recommend if you own a CC trying it at all three different voltages(9v, 12v, 18v) an see what works best in your rig. It should be in the loop 90% of the time unless your going for some weird low fi effect with some OD an vibrato or some other unconventional situation. I build pedals from scratch and mod almost every pedal I ever get my hands on. But the only mod I've done with the CC was moving the internal trim pots to the outside of the pedal with one pot on each side of the battery compartment(Width on left, Speed on the right). An I wired the width pot backwards so each pot is at 0 when turned all the way to the front and at 10 when turned all the way to the back. I used a B100k and B500k to match the 100k and 500k speed and width trim pots. It's a very simple mod and it's a lot of fun to easily dial in a different modulation sound on the fly with my foot. I'm going to build an external pedal next for it that will connect via an rca connector where the delay control is. There's a few on the market already but I wanna build my own. It will have a different clock that allows more modulation and delay time plus tap tempo an subdivisions. But for that I'll have to learn a bit about programming IC'S/ atmega type controllers. Everything I've built and moded so far has been all analog except the quaverato harmonic tremolo but the IC'S in that came preprogrammed and since it wasn't one of the pedals I built from scratch i didnt have to worry about programming. But like I said I really want to get into the digital side of pedal building since I've pretty much done all the major analog circuits. Two of my favoritrs for example are a Brian May style treble booster that I did on Vero and added some of my own touches to it like adding a tone control and an extra level knob plus I used a better transistor than what the build usually calls for and side by side with the other transistors(which are inside the pedal so you can easily switch them out if you want a different sound) you can easily tell that the MPSA18 is much quieter (it's a low noise transistor) yet it still has all the tone of the others and more. It was the first pedal I did 100% from scratch and it will never leave my board. And another example is the klon clone I did. That will also never leave my board. I live right next to one of the two Mouser electronics so I can pick up components super cheap and not pay shipping by picking them up at will call. I was able to build the klon clone for something like $60-$75. And I certainly could have built one cheaper that would probably sound just as good to the average listener.

I have one. Did you mention the awful blinding blue LEDs? Probably would have gotten the EH pedal if i had known this ahead of time. They should include a dark set of shades to go with these pedals.

whats the purpose of the "mod" buttom i dont feel any difference when you press it

fucking hails man i checked your videos and i automaticly detected some similarities between our tastes. im going to buy an Orange Head, but im slightly in doubt which model to get. i already made my mind on a Dark terror, but i need the clean channel to use my distortion pedals for different tones. i like the stoner meta. tone of the Corrosion of conformity and DOwn Bands, but i also want to take it to the next step of aggression and distortion and get more gain. whilst keeping things organic

i hate this delay pedal. Worst pedal I ever owned. you have to crank the Mix knob to hear it. Thats how dark it sounds. Way better delays out there imo.
