A month ago I uploaded part 3 of my series on building a fully functional 30W soldering station not only ENTIRELY form scratch, but also, out of what most people would consider "trash". Now 9 months after beginning the project, the soldering station is finally COMPLETE! I couldn't get myself to finish the tutorial videos like intended, due to hitting a youtuber's equivalent of the writer's block on the project, but at least without filming I could get the product done!

In case anyone wonders why it's called InstaFry 30K, it's in remembrance of a very wholsome chat I had with subscriber @lunarz711 after part 2 of the series just came out - he joked about any phone that was plugged into the USB port I diverted for the soldering iron, instantly getting fried. He even mentioned insta fry I think, so InstaFry it was! Very appropriate, and hilarious of a naming scheme. I just added the 30K, cause the soldering station is 30 watts and why not throw three additional zeroes into the mix to make it 30,000 which then gets abbreviated to 30K!

The station turned out great, if you ask me; it seems to do the job just fine, have fun using it.

Sorry, no time to watch it properly right now. Could you tell me please, is it temperature-stabilized (close-loop circuit, i. e. with sensor and feedback) or just power-regulated?
@ChronicMechatronic

No, it's not stabilized, just simple PWM regulation (I covered that circuit in part 2 of the series) However a fully analog closed-loop temperature regulation should theoretically be possible, albeit a bit more difficult - I haven't looked into it yet...

@@ChronicMechatronic definitely possible, old models like Hakko 936 and its numerous progeny prove that. With a nichrome heating element it can be difficult-ish to place a sensor properly, but I've seen people done that. Hackaday did post a link to such a project. Keep up good work! Cheers, mate.

Dramatic... but it's a tool that looks like a $30K (instantly fried) Vuitton's stuff. Neat and beautiful. 9 months? You could have been a dad Ben!😆😅🤣😜🤪

Yeah, will be interesting to see if it holds up 10 years like the commercial soldering iron I used before... But hell no! I wouldn't want to have kids, can't stand the little snot goblins!! 😂😬😬😵😵😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 The soldering station is enough of a child to me.

I liked the whole series, including the name....you need to copyright it.

Yeah, the state of copyright here on YT is sad, I am very annoyed those terrible life hack channels ripped off my original soldering tip video and made four times the money :(
