A look at the build I did several years ago and the recent repairs to the Trumpeter 1/350 USS Lexington CV-2 as she appeared at the battle of Coral Sea. Also, a look at a MOH recipient from Utah at that battle.

Great historical info and recognition. Another great example of the variety of stories, history etc on your colorful channel.

Thanks! According to my friend who passed away Mr Hall lived on Indiana Avenue not far from the old Parkview school. And he lived two blocks east of a Wake Island Survivor who has since passed away. My understanding is that his injuries that the citation talks about were pretty much inflicted by friendly fire. And he is certainly one of the main contributors if not the main reason why all the red was taken off of American aircraft after the Battle of Coral sea.

Ship building is a whole different ball game. Such small parts then miniscule etch plus, like you said, the months it takes to build them. I've done a couple of 1/72 MTB's but that's it for me and boats. I'm glad there was no major damage and only a couple of parts lost to carpet gremlins. Good luck cleaning it up. The history of the pilot was interesting,I'm glad you included that as I love that sort of thing👍😎

Thanks Pete! The pilot from what I've been able to ascertain to my research lived on the west side of Salt Lake City about a mile and a half from my home. He also lived two blocks east of a Wake Island survivor! Unfortunately I never got to interview either of those men in my lifetime. And apparently he moved back East before his death. I don't know why I put myself through the torture of doing photo etch and building these large ships, although they are neat but the photo which makes me want to take up drinking again. LOL

@@maddogmerv I did a couple ,as a kid,but not in my adult life. I've seen some incredible etch work,on battleships, over the last few years and I'm sure people are building them through a camera. I struggle with 1/35 etch on armour kits and wish there was more for cars,as what I've seen have only been basic, glue on stereos and a few carb linkages. Neither of which add much to the overall kit. I think the car kits just lack parts

Your paint work is really outstanding. The subtle variations of gray mixed in the blue add a lot. And the elevator areas also look great as do the island and stack. Nice work!

Thank you, it's one of those things I try to do to add to the realism as much as possible.

I think your ship looks great and will really be wonderful when it's done.

Very nice , like the story about the Medal of Honour winner , it’s very expensive to build that size aircraft carrier in Australia unfortunately 🇦🇺👍🏻

Thanks chris, sorry to hear it's so expensive I see this kit right now on Amazon for about $118 and I'm thinking of getting another one to convert to the saratoga. I bet wherever you could find a good deal on one the shipping would probably be outrageous.

HEY-DAR 👊😎👍: I always wanted to build an aircraft Carrier, I know it would be very time consuming that's why I didn't bother. I'd like to inquire about receiving a Shop-Card from you if possible? I don't think you have one, just checking. reply to this and let me know. Thanks, Watch ya later (MODEL CAR😎MAN CAVE)

I don't really have a shop card unfortunately. Something I should probably look into doing. Yes these big ships are very time-consuming and I usually get stuck in the Trap of trying to detail them too much. But it does make a nice change for a few weeks until I get the itch to build another car. I think next up is going to be that 65 Continental done as a surf wagon.
