I tried following the pomodoro technique and it didn't work out so well. The initial 25 minutes would make me focused but when the break would come I felt like that I had disrupted the focus that I built up in the first 25 minutes. Also the 5 minute break felt a little too short for me. What I did instead was to set it to 45 min work and 15 min break and now I am working SO much better. I really like the concept but would recommend people to tweak the intverals to suit it better for themselves.
I also find 25 minutes to be too small of a time window to get any significative amount of work done, unless it happens to be a very small task. Better for me a larger amount.
Man, I just wanted to make you know how much you helped me in improving not only my grades in college, but also my life, my stress, my time managmente, and a lot more. I really like your energy and your attitude, I hope I could see you one day and hug you, lol (I'm from Uruguay tho'). Also, I can see the improvement of the quality of your videos in each video, which is awesome! I never ask for likes, but I hope you guys reading this help me to reach his attention, cause I know most of you guys feel the same. Thank you Thomas, for real, keep it going!
When you're actually procrastinating but you're telling yourself that watching this video isn't procrastination but it's working to make yourself more productive and successful YOU ARE LYING TO YOURSELF GET UP AND GET YOUR WORK DONE
I love this guy. Even after 20 years of studying and nearly subconsciously finding out most of his tips by trial and error, there are always somethings that I can learn. RU-vid needs more such self help content. Thank you Thomas
I have tried the Pomodoro technique for years and never found it helpful UNTIL I got Forest. I use it every day. I love my collection of trees, I am motivated not to "kill" one by quitting in the middle of a 25min session, I can track my daily, weekly and monthly progress, and I enjoy spending coins on upgrades like ambient noise or new tree designs. I'll give Tide a try someday, but for now, Forest works for me. Highly recommend spending the 2 bucks.
solidsnake58 I used to have forest when it was free but when I got my new phone obviously I didn't still have the app and now I don't really wanna pay for it. But I agree it's a really great app
Does a sound go off after it's done cause my phone is always on do not disturb so I never know when it's done. Which is helpful in some ways but I feel like this technique would be more helpful
Awesome video my man. This has been so effective for me and your completely right with the mental barrier. Once I get past that everything just flows along. Keep it up!
Now, THAT is the way to present a video! Concise, tight, well thought-out, with nothing unnecessary, and with respect for your viewer's time and intelligence. Well done, sir!
I love the distraction sheet list next to you, the idea about the input vs output based work and the quote in your book about the confidence we feel after placing a bet.
I've been using your "study with me" video to help me focus on studying and this is the one that works for me the best. so i' m really grateful, thank you very much.
Thomas I don't know what exactly it is about your videos, maybe it's your clear articulation and communication, or your strong conviction in what you are saying but your tips and advice are one of the few RU-vidrs that actually stick in my head. I employ a lot of your techniques and recommendations now - thanks for all your work!
I’m reading the comments, most of them say that they procrastinate while watching your videos, I think it’s productive to learn many things through your videos, of course I mindset to accomplish everything I learned from you. But that’s it, you rock! Thanks for taking the time to teach useful things to be more productive. You have helped me a lot. Greetings from Venezuela.
Writing my distractions down were soooooo good. I've had so many thoughts running through my head at different times and writing them down made me focus better
Thank you so much for recommending this. I have done more work in the past two days with this method than I have in the previous ten. I don´t know what it is, but for me this is a lifesaver.
I share many of your videos and strategies with my first year community college students! Many thanks for providing creative and "fun" educational videos that engage students!!
Jasper Alkmaar that's not right. There have probably been a lot more people, who have unsubscribed. (Even though I don't get why) Not meant to be rude....
Love your content. Have bought a timer for every one in my class and we watched your video. They were thoroughly chufffed and loved getting a hack to to break procrastination.. Legend 👍
Great video. I was so stressed at work about this one issue I believed to be insurmountable. I kept neglecting it and the problem started to grow and grow. I’ve just started to use the online Pomodoro timer and now I’m finally tackling it. Still a way to go yet but it’s really helping!
This is great Thomas. Have read about Pomodoro many times, and never really used it. You explained the advantages much more clearly and compellingly. Thanks!
always always enjoy your videos. I guess over the time, by watching your video, you've become my moral support in my assignment and presentations and university work on the overall. I am in my last semester now and I am just very grateful. I will always comeback to your videos, it will remind me of the good times I spent working my a** off for my degree :). thanks champ 💜
I've been using the Tide app since watching this video last week and it honestly has increased my productivity SO much. I've been able to sit down and study with no interruptions for up to two hours. I finished a lab report in roughly six hours, which normally would've taken me a total of nearly eight by the time I put my phone down and started working. I also was able to read and type up a book synopsis in only eight hours, including my short five minute breaks every 45 mins or so. Thank you for this video! I'm definitely going to recommend the Pomodoro technique to friends and classmates.
Thanks for the video! It definitely helps! I can now finish my paper with ease without having to worry if I get it done on time due to my procrastinating. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the help! I applied this to my report due soon and it helped me get it past the conceptualizing stage! If only I could jump into papers the way don't hesitate to edit new youtube videos....
Wow thanks for the insight. I am definitely going to try to write down my distractions for later because I always need to search something when I've just started my work
I went to a culinary arts school, even tho i changed my career to design later, but the mise en place, is something that stuck with me since i learn it and i use it for EVERYTHING, homework, work, even cleaning the house, so it is such a powerful weapon, i always thought why no one mention it when it comes to productivity so i am glaaaad you did :D Nice video, love it!
i was killing time before bed and found this and a few others and just wanted to say thank you. trying to get that last push to get a career certification and want to not waste time before my test.
The thing is, that might actually be a good way to ease into it, you could literally set and use the timer exactly like that, there is no reason it is impossible to do so. Then every so often, say every 10 days, you increase the work end by 5 more mins at a time until you get to where you are doing a more significant amount of work and less procrastination.
Used to do pomodoro for studying and it worked well. now that i'm working from home some days i've been procrastinating so much! thanks for the helpful video and the reminder that this technique works! also just downloaded Tide and love it! it's a beautiful app.
Yes yes yes to everything in this video! I use your study with me video sometimes even if I am already in the library, I really need to get over that starting point! I didn't know about the distraction sheet, I'm gonna try that :)
Yes I did watch this video so I can procrastinate my genetics paper. However, this was very helpful and I also added lots of your videos to my watch later playlist. You sir, just earned another subscriber. THANKS A LOT!
I always use the pomodoro method because it helped me to mange and focus on one or more things for 25 minutes and atually it dramatically changed my whole study life.I always combine it with watching study with me sessions because it's so quiet and I feel like I am studying with someone. Please do more study with me videos.I really enjoy your videos😀
I watched this video yesterday I tried this technique today And I can't believe Oh my God I never seen myself soooo focused and committed to studies Tide is one best app for implementing it I strongly recommend it Now I know what to do Thankyou sooooooooooooo much Mr. Frank! You will be one of the main reasons for my success
It works for me, but I do make a list. Due to low dopamine it helps me focus which is my main problem. After about 15 minutes I feel like I'm going to die if I don't break. Then when 20 minutes is over and I have total focus, I get excited and wired. Glad to hear you don't have to break after 25 minutes.
I didn't know about writing down the list of attempted distractions, really helpful. Another huge thing for me is exercise. My body hates sitting there getting fat and achey. So having an actual break between each 25 mins and actually doing something - ideally returning to the task with a racing heart having done done pull ups, trampoline or skipping or push-ups or a tiny run out anything is awesome
