I once had an guy at a sandwich shop ask me what I was listening to as he put together my order. I said "The Butthole Surfers." Which was true. He gave me angry looks till I left.
@@shaynewest8757 That was the only way to see them in the 80s. Unless you were on shrooms or mescaline or peyote (I did all of the above)(but not all at once). I kinda thought that was the point. Although I did see them soberish a few times. They used to play for 5 bucks at the Ritz--great place to meet cute guys (or girls, depending on what you were looking for); I fell in punk rock love for a few months after a guy asked me to hold his leather jacket before he went into the pit. Heck, I took my first stage dive to Cherub. The Surfers helped us Texans get through the Reagan years with their unique albeit dangerous flair. Fun facts: I grew up watching lead singer Gibby Haynes' father host our local program Peppermint Place on children's TV, and Gibby went to an excellent private university in San Antonio and graduated as Accounting Student of the Year. Their ranch was an infamous place of debauched good times . . . .
To list some of my favs -Alice In Chains -Dystopia -EyeHateGod -Acid Bath -Darkthrone -Deicide -Down -Sepultura -Death -Minor Threat -Bad Brains -Black Flag -Electric Wizard -Kyuss -Melvins -Mayhem (especially Deathcrush) -Type O Negative
Not only was I the vocalist in Skaven (brother band of Dystopia with split LP and tour) but my band DemonSteed opened for Melvins and Orange Goblin (better than Electric Wizard although I dig them) in Montana after I left Oakland to get away from heroin. I hope you guys do an actual drop dive on Oakland because we have been legion. Neurosis, Skaven, Dystopia, HTSOB, M.I.B., etc.... And now Necrot, Mortuous, Vorlust, Kicker (Mauz and Dave Ed), Stormcrow, Brain Oil, Deadform (Dino's new band w/ Brian from Stormcrow), the list is thousands long. Don't disappoint.... dig that vein! 🤘🤘🤘
Some of my favorites are… Agalloch Death Misfits Led Zeppelin Bolt Thrower Iron Maiden Rush Type O Negative Mustard Plug (Not even remotely punk or metal but I love them) Carcass Voivod And many more
Death Misfits and Iron Maiden? What more could you need? 🤘also, mustard plug is ska which is a type of punk. I really like those old ska bands like mustard plug, Catch 22, Streetlight Manifesto, Big D and the Kids Table and The Suicide Machines they remind me of my teenage years.
agalloch deserves more attention. Some of their songs like the melancholy spirit for example just feel like im listening to an epic adventure. I'd say they are the more gritty and depressing version of insomnium, which is already a pretty damn depressing band, so thats saying a lot.
My favorite band has to be Nine Inch Nails to the point where I’ve gotten the logo tattooed on my arm, collected their entire discography on CD, and am currently writing a 10,000 word research paper on the impact of The Downward Spiral for an English 102 class
1. Sleep 2.Electric Wizard 3. Pig Destroyer 4. Type O Negative 5. High on Fire 6. Carcass 7. Bad Religion 8. Death 9. Napalm Death 10. Mayhem 11. Possessed 12. Minor Threat 13. Fugazi 14. Sublime 15. Tool 16. Sunn O))) 17. Rammstein 18. The Roots 19. King Diamond/Mercyful Fate 20. The Dillinger Escape Plan Some of my all time favorites
Fun fact- I saw Sunn O))) by accident. I was tripping heavily on mushrooms and for some reason decided to go to that show (they weren’t sold out so I paid the 20$ and went in half way through). I ended up having the absolute worst trip of my life and had night terrors for months. Needless to say, I didn’t listen to them for a long time after. But once I got over it I enjoyed their ideas and saw their show sober lol
My favorite bands: - The Other - The Birthday Party - Blitzkid - Misfits (Danzig era) - Elysian (formerly Maudlin) - Xmal Deutschland - Argyle Goolsby and the Roving Midnight - Pawns (NYC) - Cemetery (Chicago) - Calabrese - Asylum Party - Screaming Dead (preferably their older work) - Veil Vitric - She Past Away - Bauhaus
Butthole Surfers are awesome! I got into them after hearing Oderus mention them + the fact that Gibby directed Phallus in Wonderland. I went to my local record store and the only cd they had was locust abortion technician. Little did I know I had bought one of the greatest records of all time. I listened to it 6 times that night
1. Metallica 2. Black Sabbath 3. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard 4. Death 5. Opeth 6. Bob Dylan 7. Power Trip 8. Slayer 9. Beatles 10. Misfits 11. Morbid Angel 12. Led Zeppelin 13. Deftones 14. Iron Maiden 15. Descendents. 16. Motorhead 17. Pig Destroyer 18. Parliament-Funkadelic Just went through my spotify and picked out a few. I could probably add a few more but ima leave it at this. My top 3 are set in stone but the rest is just random. Also what is your favorite Sabbath album and song?
This was awesome! Some of the bands I agree with and some I don't know all that well but I just love your introspection and enthusiasm! I'm never bored with your vids, keep being a diehard fan that reminds people why hard/heavy music scenes are good places
Dude, Drab Majesty. Vr Sex. My gods this music has opened an entire universe. So damn good , And the influences and nods to so many legendary bands that are in their music. That blew me away when you mentioned them and So cool you like them. Deb and Mona are a goddamn cosmic force.
Years ago I saw Cradle of Filth at House of Blues in Chicago. Wesley Willis was hanging out in the bathroom trying to sell his records. He kept yelling "European tour!" and he headbutt my friend upon request.
Dude Thankyou for your ministry videos. Ive gone through most of their discography since hearing them 1year ago and love the variety in their sounds. Hope I can see them live if they ever visit my country. Even though it’ll never be like the “Sphinc-Tour” era. Just found killing joke last week and was blown away by how many influences I hear from them in other bands. Thanks for revitalising my love for finding new music.
Sphinctour was so good followed the band from london to Nottingham on that tour the band was so heavy blew me away those were extremely hedonistic daze . Nobody better back then !
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttackLooking forward to it! I bought The Sphinc-Tour on DVD along with Al’s autobiography last year and loved it. It would be awesome to see you talking about the “In case you didn’t feel like showing up” 1989 live album/video too!
Good list - we are similar, it seems, on the industrial side. I'm going to check out some of the bands you mentioned that I've never heard of. Here are some of my favorites: 1.) Suicidal Tendencies 2.) Black Sabbath 3.) Twisted Sister 4.) Faith No More 5.) Manowar 6.) Bad Religion 7.) The Queers 8.) Nine Inch Nails 9.) KMFDM 10.) Avatar 11.) Pop Will Eat Itself 12.) Ninja Sex Party 13.) Weird Al 14.) Slayer 15.) Ministry 16.) Marilyn Manson 17.) Pink Floyd I listen to a ton of stuff - my playlist on Spotify has over 10,000 songs, and I'm adding more every day from bands from around the world. My music tastes swing all the time, from Type O to Viking tunes, to 80's new wave and pop. I just love music and listen to almost anything. The ones listed here are probably the most listened to. Do you have a playlist on Spotify?
For me Minor Threat Godflesh Aphex Twin Radiohead BJORK Beck Acid Bath Pink Floyd B 52's Flaming Lips So many great bands out there.. Cool video and way to do a top 17, it's hard to do.
My Favorites: 17 Cannibal Corpse 16 Bathory 15 Sepultura 14 Emperor 13 Kreator 12 Cradle Of Filth 11 System Of A Down 10 Rhapsody 9 Kamelot 8 Pantera 7 Judas Priest 6 Death 5 Slayer 4 Megadeth 3 Iron Maiden 2 Nightwish 1 Epica
Butthole Surfers changed me from a kid who didn't think he liked music into a kid who wanted to be (and became) a drummer. I grew up in the 80s and was very ignorant as far as music goes, to the point that I didn't know there were bands that made livings that were NOT played on the radio. The Widowermaker EP changed all that in one sitting and it only got better from there as I collected their discography backwards. All hail Gibby!
this is my top list for bands at the moment 1. Death Grips 2. Pestilence 3. Skinny Puppy 4. The Melvins 5. Cynic 6. Edge Of Sanity 7. Autopsy 8. Dystopia 9. Nocturnus 10. Dismember
Ageing UK Rocker here(64). Favourite artists. 1 Rory Gallagher. 2 Neil Young/ Crazy Horse. 3. Pentagram. 4.Budgie. 5. The Long Ryder's. 6.Rose Tattoo. 7.The Dandy Warhols. 8. The Groundhogs . 9. Brant Bjork ( ex Kyuss). 10. The Pink Fairies. Fav new bands. Burning Witches. Year of The Cobra. Mdou Moctar. Enjoy your channel mate. Keep the uploads coming.
I don't think I could really have a comprehensive list of my favorite bands without going on forever, but if you put a gun to my head and told me to figure out my favorite band ever NOW I would realistically say Lagwagon. Explored all corners of melodic hardcore & pop-punk, no one does it better than them.
Awesome. Many great bands and albums here; a lot of them so underrated as well. 1. AC/DC 2. Motörhead 3. Megadeth 4. Slayer 5. Iron Maiden 6. Judas Priest 7. Rob Zombie 8. Pantera 9. Metallica 10. Avenged Sevenfold 11. Lamb of God 12. Steel Panther 13. The Darkness 14. Saxon 15. Nickelback 16. Five Finger Death Punch 17. Rammstein 18. Airbourne 19. Limp Bizkit 20. Tenacious D Also I know a lot of these bands are hated but they’re who I grew up with and I’ve always loved ‘em!
Props for the honesty. Nobody should get shit on for having favorite bands, I mean I hate Nickleback but it’s none of my business if other people love them.
Awesome list! This would have to be mine: 1. Queen 2. Dream Theater 3. Van Halen 4. Children of Bodom 5. Metallica 6. Alice In Chains 7. Slipknot 8. Iron Maiden 9. Pantera 10. Rush 11. Black Sabbath 12. Misfits 13. Led Zeppelin 14. Primus 15. Megadeth 16. Nirvana 17. Judas Priest 18. Blind Guardian 19. Motörhead 20. System of a Down
Great wide taste in music. I'll admit my taste is probably a lot more linear. If I had to list mine it would be(in no order) 1.Iron Maiden 2.Napalm Death 3.Sodom. 4.Motorhead. 5.Agnostic Front 6.Sick of It All 7. Cathedral 8. Black Sabbath 9. Enslaved 10. Therion 11. Satyricon 12. Marduk 13. Obituary 14. Raven 15. Sepultura 16. Slayer 17. Voivod. 18.Unleashed. 1. The Beatles 2. Green Day 3. The Who 4. Iron Maiden 5. The Jam 6. CCR 7. Sum 41 8. Motorhead 9. Metallica 10. The Cure 11. Judas Priest 12. The Kinks 13. Dokken 14. The Yardbirds 15. Linkin Park 16. Van Halen 17. Bad Religion 18. Black Sabbath 19. Descendents 20. Jimi Hendrix Experience My list is pretty much the basic bands, but these are my picks for my favorite bands ever! And I'm definitely not sorry!
@Zerozerozero any list with Dokken Motorhead and The Kinks can’t be a 1/10. There are some eyebrow raisers on there for sure, but the good bands and the diversity makes up for it in my opinion.
some bands that i love: Bonjour tristesse Psychonaut 4 White Ward Death Woods of Desolation Silencer The Foetal Mind Pestilence Heretoir Paysage d'Hiver Bethlehem Burzum The Algorithm Cytotoxin Vulvodynia Drudkh Lifelover I know there's quite many but these are the bands that come to mind rn when talking about favourites!
It's nice to see some metalcore in this comment section. Metalcore gets no respect. ABR was the first metal band I ever put on my iPod shuffle back in the day lol. 15+ years later, they're still at the top of their game.
10. Venom 9. Type O Negative 8. Black sabbath 7. Gojira 6. Nine Inch Nails 5. Tool 4. Havok 3. The Mars Volta 2. Death 1. Slayor i know its basic but i love all these bands to death
@@imposantermrbubblebutt8197 I love death angel but (frolic through the park is one of my top 20 albums) but I'm not sure i would like any metal without system
Ahh. You did say Agollach that counts as black metal. And honorable mention for Drab Majesty now I know we have similar musical tastes what a strange and awesome band. Do yourself a favor and see Drab live sometime if you haven’t already, it was a great experience for me.
I like your list, many great bands. I wish I could point like 17 bands I like, but there are so many... The pnly ones I can say would be in the top 17 are Torture Squad, Metallica and The Ramones, the others that could make the list are so many... If I had more courage to talk to a camera I would try making a top 20 or top 15.
We have some similarities Uncle Tony: 1)Nine Inch Nails 2)Type O Negative 3)VNV Nation 4)Draconian 5)X Marks the Pedwalk 6)My Dying Bride 7)The Wounded 8)Paradise Lost 9)Skinny Puppy 10)Pride and Fall 11)Theatre of Tragedy 12)Slayer 13)Fïx8:Sëd8 14)Swallow the Sun 15)Fear Factory

Good music bro, keep the Metal alive flowing through the veins of society one of my favorite bands is GWAR I remember when I was getting into them it was a fun trip, I thought they looked kinda silly but it grew on me the music made it make more sense and I love the journey it took me through no other band did what they did to me, it expanded my minds limits, I miss Oderus Urungus(dave brockie) fuckin miss him a lot but they got a great new frontman blother the beserker is pretty good, glad they kept goingit is still a lot of fun. the new album kicks a** left right centre, you can't stop a truly great band and pioneers of their genre. Heavy Metal can never die, I will always remember the journey GWAR took me on, it was fun no band can touch this band. enjoy brother, grind on...

Totally agree about Samhain. I had never heard anything (apart from Son of Sam that does'nt count) that even reminded me of Samhain. Not until a couple of months ago when I for some reason found the band Super Heroines. Check out the album Cry for Help (the song Convicts for example). Would be fun to hear your take on that.
No order but Death, Gojira, Prince and the NPG, Sleep,Pantera,Slipknot,Bolt thrower, Obituary, Exodus,mr.oizo, Black sabbath, cannibal corpse, grateful dead and the beastie boys
Very surprised you didn't include Obituary or Entombed! Still these are all bands I have started adding to my collection!! Besides a couple these like Samhain, Abscess, Gwar, and a few others

Brilliant video. My top 17 would be in no alphabetical order. Greetings from Ireland! Iron Maiden Fields of the Nephilim Emperor or Immortal Joy Division Thin Lizzy Paradise Lost Type O Negative Heart Judas Priest AC/DC Amorphis Billy Idol ABBA Moonspell Tribulation Nokturnal Mortum Rush
Finally I've found a person that consumes music in the same way I do, in cycles. I just can't listen to everything all the time, its like my brain shuts off on certain bands and can only focus on those particular 2 or 3 bands of the moment
Top 5 favorite bands are: 5. Greta Van Fleet - For me, best modern rock band to grace the earth, and a beautiful homage to the musical genius of Led Zeppelin. Josh Kizka is one of the most eclectic singers I’ve ever heard, and his brothers are all equally brilliant at their work. 4. Avenged Sevenfold - Phenomenal performances from not just the singer, but the entire lineup of musicians. I also love the versatility of their catalog, there’s not two albums that sound alike. Lastly, three words for A7X: Best. Ballads. Ever. 3. Three Days Grace - As someone who experienced deep emotional trauma during my adolescence, TDG possesses the most relatable lyrics for that period of my life. I’m also one of maybe five people who enjoys both the Adam Gontier and Matt Walst eras, both have excellent albums to offer. 2. Slipknot - Easily my favorite heavy metal band. Corey Taylor is such an aggressive psychopath on stage but one of the coolest dudes off stage. Their live performances and showmanship are astounding as well, and the balance between the harsh and clean vocals is fantastic. Love the masked freaks. 1. AC/DC - The band that introduced me to rock n roll, and made me pick up guitar. The two main reasons I love them so much aside from the consistency and quality of their music, is how humble and compassionate the band members are, and whether it’s Bon or Brian singing, I’m always returning to the gods of hard rock, Acca Dacca.
Dude I love your list!! I live in a REALLY religious household where music is kinda shunned but I've always loved it and at a time tried to even collect CD's secretly. I've always loved every music genre but around a year ago I decided I wanted to get more into death metal and this serves as a good list of recommendations, for that and more, just gotta make sure my mum doesn't hear lol (ps I'm a huge gwar fan too)
Thanks for talking about ministry really underground and I'm getting a mind is a terrible thing to taste patch and I saw them at the van Buren thanks again!
