My 1970s: Going Out - Karen Thomas & Tracey Worsnop 

Crikey, I remember all of those haunts in the seventies.. I was born in ‘58, so I can really relate to what these girls were talking about, I spent my girlhood in Armley. I first went to the rollerina on kirkstall road in 1970, with my best friend Janet Day, we lived in the Aviary’s, so it was only about a twenty minute walk away. I went to Silver Royd School, and my friends and I would get dolled up on the odd Saturday night and go to Hofbrau House near the merrion centre. God knows how we managed to stay sober and get away with it as they served huge Steiners of lager, we couldn’t aford one each so we used to share one! We used to go home and go, straight off to bed after saying we’d been round at our mates house. Of course we had to get the make up off beforehand, we used ponds cream😆 Our mothers never found out, they would have killed us if they’d known!!! Happy days Julie Hubbard (Tring)

Not a mention of Jimmy Saville, Leeds was rife with ‘underaged’ girls on the pull, The old and new Mecca’s were notorious as were The Concadora, El Centrico (The Central), The BeeGee. The 4 cousins, All full of kids wanting to do ‘grown up things’.
