This kit is amazing and has a massive sound. So here’s a video of me talking about it. (All if the music in this video is my own) #tamadrums #vintagetamadrums #drums
@@alanduncan1980 'oh ffs' with that piece of crap kit you have I'm not surprised you're frustrated. You must've found it on the roadside where your parents left you
I had one of these kits back in the day...the shells have a Zola coated interior...the 80s Swingstar's had the exact same drum shell with cheaper hardware. With the right mics these drums can sound amazing.
Very nice kit. Actually drums are still made from maple , mahogany, cherry and many other wood species. Some drums are made with poplar and are a mix of poplar and other woods. The standard of drums these days are outstanding value for money and sound. Still vintage drums are king.
The drum sound on the early police recordings was part of the reason why I picked up this drum kit originally. I believe at the time Copeland played with sizes 10”, 12”, 13, 16” and 18” with a 22” (paired with a Pearl Jupiter snare drum) and muffled the hell out of them to make them as fast and punchy as possible. If I had the money and could track one down I’d also get the signature kit Tama did as a limited run around 10 years ago. Just an all around beautiful kit!
I did try having the Tom on a snare stand for a while. Personally, I prefer to reach for that rack Tom a bit more. I’d have to reach regardless as the rack Tom in the playing demo was a 15x12. Most of the time I just use the 14x10 so I have to reach less. Plus as the main purpose of this kit is for studio work, I find that snare stands kill the tone of Toms a bit too much for my taste.
I think it’s a very specific sound, the old Pearl exports have a very similar sound, quite dead and dry sounding. So it’s all up to personal taste I suppose. While I’m certainly not much of a fan of those old pearls, I will say that these old Imperialstars are stellar (at least in my opinion). Especially given their use on the first couple of Police albums and many other sessions!
@@owdrumssessions guys just being all nationalist about it, there's this opinion that anything that doesn't come from USA is automatically bad. these are fantastic drums.
@@allyemeraart Nah, I’m a Yank and have loved Tamas from the 70s on. I still have my first Imperialstar set from the 70s, my first Superstars from 1981, but mostly play my 2014 Tama Bubinga Starclassics.
