My 1988 Ibanez RG350 Made In Japan | A vintage classic! 

I am LOVING the retro Ibanez content lately. When Ibby gets it right, nothing can touch them especially those old MIJ models

This may be my favourite guitar in your collection. I'm a sucker for vintage Ibanez guitars, I wish they did less stuff with burl tops and more like this.

We need more things like this and an expanded Genesis line instead of AxionIronPremium bullshit.

My ‘87 RG560 has the paper sticker serial number on it. I believe that’s the only date on those guitars but if you pull the neck off, there should be a stamp on the heel of the neck itself stating what model it is. That might tell you if it’s original or not. Love the vids!

You can move to volume pot to the tone pot position and replace that volume hole with a kill switch.

That's a beautiful vintage RG! You don't have to worry regarding the serial number, I have seen a couple of RGs from the 80s with serial numbers on stickers. After so many years, these stickers can come off, from cleaning the neck, or due to humidity, or what ever..., so I think the guitar is legit.

You always have a lovely clean tone. Have seen the headless you built, still playing it, I have watched that series countless times!

The 350 is a beautiful guitar. I have a Korean version from 1990, in almost mint condition. The sound of it is fantastic, the sustain is extraordinary...maybe the ageing of the wood produced that. As far as colour. Yours has been repainted. The red underneath is the base paint. The upper layer of paint should be more translucent, so I'm guessing that it was repainted to match the colour, but the paint was too thick, so you have two distinctive layers now. A fantastic guitar newertheless!

Nice! I have a 1988 540S in Desert Yellow and a 1991 RG570! Can’t beat those old FujiGen Ibanez.

I still have my first guitar, which is a RG350RD (red) with a Schaller Floyd Rose II and Schaller tuners. The original red is quite different to yours. It's a very strong signally red. The neck is 17mm thick at the 1st fret. The string lock screws go all the way through the neck. There are no letters on the S/N sticker, just the number 26237. So no idea where and when it was built. Might be a Korea model

I have been looking for an RG350 for years, I remember seeing one when I went first went into a guitar shop as a teenager. It was the guitar I wanted but I only just started to learn to play. The reason I like them is that is 22 frets 👍

i was againste ibanez after my 2120z but after i got a Ibanez RG-7621 made in japan with upgrades to hipshot bridge and bk aftermaths honestly best purchase i made for 350 euros and it out performs my ibanez premium from 2019 by a longshot deffenetly older ibanez guitars feel better than the newer ones and i have a rosewood fb aswell and it feels almost like ebony and the frets are supper smoothe i asked the seller he said its been like that since the first day so i guess older ibanez fretboards are just way better finished than what rosewood looks these days

still have my Korean Rg350 from 91, with a Schaller trem which sounds boom. And scored a 1st year prestige RG1550.

I brought a rg120 for $59 and I just recently bought and installed Oripure alnico 5 in the bridge and Oripure alnico2 on the neck its the one with the flat piece of metal though one side and hex screws on the other. I think I paid $45 for it and I am in love with the neck position . I love my rg120..oh yeah I polished the frets as well and I'm gonna regret with SS EXTRA TALL and I'm gonna take my time and do the best job I can

Awesome video brotha! My buddy has an Ibanez RG550 from 1985, but it's a south paw (left-handed). It does have a much brighter Red, which could be the same as the coat you found under the Burgundy-ish layer. All in all, same setup, just Gold hardware.

your guitar is an original., that's quite clear. I had thew 360 from the same year and that was an astounding guitar with an excellent tremolo. There was no printed label on the back like the modern models. The red paint difference from the catalog is normal. Mine was yellow and it didn't look exactly like in the catalog either, and it might be that your paint on the surface has aged differently than below (depends on the weather, what the owner used to clean it with). The necks used to be much lighter, but this is also an effect of time. You are right about the relic topic: Not only it looks natural (exquisitely ugly and random), but also nobody would bother to relic it to sell it at such a cheap price. btw, mine was apparently lost years ago and has recently reemerged and it is on the way back to me as I write.

I hated Strats because the volume knob position. Then I found Tonestyler tone knobs. I put those in place of the volume and now I love these things. No pinky swells though

That’s a really cool guitar. It may just be the angle but it looks like the low string is really close to the edge of the fretboard. I’ve had a couple guitars with the high string that way. That’s my biggest pet peeve with guitars.

8:28 my ibanez roadstar series from 1987 has this type of serial number too. It’s very common on old ibanez series.

Would love to see you do an old Ibanez 7 string.. as a fellow Ibanez lover and someone who owns several prestige’s nothing beats that Ibanez 7 string tone. I just got a rgr5227 plekd and oh my lord!! That guitar plays like a 3k custom now. But ya man would love to see a 90s 7 string on here.

Nice find. Love those old Ibanez RGs. To refret this old lady, you need frets with a bigger/wider tang. The slots need to resaw a bit. Normal frets wan't "bite" enough in the slots. If you need informations or help, feel free to contact me. I'm building guitars for now 15y as a hobby.

Saw the thumbnail and thought about my 1985 red Ibanez RS440 (Roadstar II). Only thing I hate about Ibanez is the placement of the volume knob. It needs to be a little farther away from the pickup. I'd sometimes hit it on my RG-550, when strumming.

the best part for me looking at these old rgs is how dirty the neck is, even better when the maple fretboard is gray. lol!

Re: volume knob. Get a custom pickguard without holes drilled. Drill the holes and move the knob away. Worked on 550.

Hey Soulhenge check out the intonation tool I reviewed. You may find it useful for your 550. That 350 is a great guitar! It’s a real vintage beast. I look forward to seeing what improvements/restoration you do to it.

I have a 90 rg570. IT seem to be a sticker with the model and serial on it

Advice: have a luthier look at that scarf joint and maybe seal up that seam.

I see the serial number is not there, usually Japan models mave it pressed on the back of the neck. Either way if you find it the first 2 numbers are the date it was made.

Have my 1987 RG340 which was the first guitar I ever bought new back in ‘87. Made in Korea but still a nice guitar. Only problem with it is the trem system wasn’t the greatest so I need to switch it out for something better.

The school I used to go to had 2 of these in such a pitiful state, I just couldn't believe guitars could be beat up that much.

What is Ibanez V3 pickups?

The body wood is basswood, just like 550, but this sounds so much better clean I want to get the Genesis 550, but the clean tone is putting me off

I want that guitar but can’t seem to find any online. Any other vintage Ibanez you’d recommend? The RG550 Genesis would be great but I hate lighter fretboards. I flipped an az and want to see what else is out there before I buy it again.

This is awesome man! Nice find :) I have played a few old guitars and even old cheap ones have a feel and resonance which only comes from things aging, even if they play like crap haha. Why would anyone spray over original red?!? Swap the knobs :) disconnect the tone if you don't use it haha. Nice man :)

Old Basswood bodies age terribly as it is a soft wood and a absolute ding magnet, I am suprised there are not many dents in the guitar body. That there are only scratches in the paint. The body may not be basswood or it is a dodgy relic job. Could easily be a Frankenstein, partscaster. It is easy to get a Ibanez style body and a old Ibanez neck. Look for surface dings or pressure marks. The thing should be absolutely covered in them. If it is a parts caster you sir have been done, as you could make one for like 220 quid.

I really don't see much value on having "everything original" on a over 20 years old guitar. Maybe I am not a purist. As long as it has the original bridge, studs and nut, nothing else really matters (hardware wise).
