I LIVEEEEE for your DH videos! You're so inspirational and gorgeoussss lol. You don't know how much your videos have helped me keep my head up and keep going strong in school, you gave me the courage to sign up for the program and now I'm in my 3rd semester and I'm thriving! I graduate next April and this has been one of my best life decision's because I'm 20 right now and by the time I'm 21 I'll have a secure job, be able to travel anywhere I want, and also as a Haitian immigrant, I will be able to bring my mother into America and have her living comfortably. So with that being said, I pray that God keeps blessing you in abundance :)
Flo R girl why am I over here tearing up? I am so happy for you ! God is good and he is blessing you in so many ways , i am so glad I inspired you in a way and you are thriving and doing your thing now ! God bless you and your family hun 🇭🇹 ❤️😘
Ok so I’m currently a senior in high school class of ‘19... and this might be a stupid question but can dental hygienists cleans kids teeth or only pediatric dentist??? I really want to clean and work on kids teeth but don’t know what those particular dentist are called?..
I’m currently 21 and still finishing my pre reqs (chem 10, chem 20, anat, physio, & micro) :/// I wish I knew I wanted to be a hygienist when I first entered college so I could be a young DH like you 😓 congrats on your first year girl
@@awazs2230 in colorado avg is 38-40, high side 45-55 depends on the state some vary a lot but most is mid 30s. Luckily in my area with 10 yrs experience it is 46$ /hr
I can’t wait to graduate high school and begin the Dental Hygiene Program I’m already starting my pre-reqs!! You really inspired me, I’ve been watching your video since last year💓
@@agirlwholovesgod1645 yes because you will do pre requisite. The only grades that matter is your pre-req grades to go into dental hygiene school. And I guess high school grades will matter in a fact that those are what get you into college to to do the pre-req. Highschool~college/pre-req~Dental Hygeine school
@@cidney4real207 the only way to take pre-reqs in Highschool is AP exams, CLEP, or dual credit. All you need to do is search up the college you want to go to and search up which classes are needed for your major (dental hygiene) and see if you can take an AP exam, CLEP, or dual credit of that class. There’s no limit on how many classes you can do but I suggest don’t do too much Becuase it might be overwhelming. Just do enough to where you can enter college as a sophmore :)
I’m on my first month of starting work as a dental hygienist and have been feeling really depressed because how hard I’ve been on myself and making myself feel like I couldn’t do the job. Watching this video really helped me see it’s all apart of the process and everyone goes through it. You give me hope that things will get better and that’s the best thing to know. Thank you so much
Emily Bernier hey love ! Don’t be hard on yourself, I have come a longgggg way! It’s part of the growth and the process! We all started somewhere you know ! You got this 😘
Tajah Ferjuste thank you so much for acknowledging my comment omg. You’re truly my role model and give me such hope for my future and being happy in my career!
I want to be a Dental Hygienist. Still in High school but I figured i should start watching professionals to see if I still want to be one in the future
Hi! Love your passion about DH! U remind me of myself when I started! Graduated 17 years ago as DH and finishing dentistry degree next year. Was really tired of the limited scope of practice as a hygienist. Wish you success
I’ve been skeptical on changing my major to DH because I know it’s a lot of work and long hours studying, but as i watched this (first time ever seeing you btw), I’m more than confident that I can do this. I’m not going to take the easy way out & do the major I’m in now bc I think it’s “easy”.. I’m smart enough to do this. so thank you for encouraging me!!!! I’m going for it in the Fall !!!!!
In canada it takes 3 years.. and you shouldn’t choose your career, wich is gonna be most of your life, on how much time it takes to graduate. Dental hygiene school is hard and you need motivation and you need to really love the profession to be able to go through with it. Also, school is expensive don’t choose a program just for the time it takes! Take time off school and find out what you like!
@Mr. Kattan it's really required a 2 year associate degree or if you want a bachelors 4 years. 5 years me and masters degree. I called Miami Dade medical campus advisor said 6classes get 2.5 gpa or higher. Then the hygiene program graduate associate degree. Bachelors and master if you want more money
i’m about to start my junior year of high school and i’m trying to figure out what i want to do in life and this video is really helpful and i’m very much considering being a dental hygienist now! thank you!!
Just took my National Boards last weekend and taking my CRDTS in 2 weeks. To say the burnout has hit me already would be the understatement of the year! But I'm excited to graduate regardless!! What will be will be!! 😩🙌🏾❤️
I've been a dental hygienist for almost six years and time flies! I remember all those bad moments being at school doing my stages, having my clinicians behind my back almost watching every single moves that I was doing, always being scared of failing. School was HARD!!! And when I start my firts job as a dental hygienist, I was expecting of doing so many things that I got taught of school, but ending up mainly doing hygiene, taking X-rays, doing oral hygiene instruction and it was so smooth. I got to say though that you are also right about the gossipping situations in a dental office, but at the end of the day, don't trust too much and mind your businesses, do your thing, go home and do not give too much of your personal informations, I've learnt it. Also, maybe the first job won't be the best, but you always learn from places where you work. I worked in a dental clinic for almost five years and when I changed, I appreciated more the placed where I am at now. I also was a replaceant and it got me also out of my comfort zone, going to an office to an other. Anyways, your videos are great. I'm in Canada and I can relate to everything that you say. Keep doing your vidoes, by the way you are just so pretty. Take care.
Hey girl ! I’m currently in high school and college at the same time and studying to pursue a career in dentistry. So happy to see black women in the field 💖
I am in school and can't wait to get to work. I think working as a dental assistant is highly beneficial before applying for hygiene school. I feel like I have such an upper hand having experience being chair-side for years. Thank you for the advice Beautiful!
That part at the end about remembering why we started!! Yeees! I needed that girl, I’m taking boards next Friday and it’s easy to forget that! Thanks! ♡
yaaasss girl!!!! omg I feel like God aligns everything at the perfect timing! I just finished my fifth day of working as an RDH at my very first job out of dental hygiene school. And boy, everything that you are saying is so on point. OMG BLESS!!! I love you girl! God bless you always! I hope to meet you someday too! I am from Northern Cali! lol
I love this and I agree with it so far!! I'm still in my first month working as an RDH and already learned a lot on how the real world really feels like. So different from school but man, school made me have high expectations on myself which helps me makes sure to be the best clinician for my patients :)
Thank you so much. I’m actually in school for dental hygiene and I’m absolutely terrified of all of it. I have always loved teeth and making sure people had a gorgeous smile and this was just fantastic to run across. Keep up the wonderful work girlie!
Girl, you are literally so gorgeous and funny and just straight FIRE!♥️♥️ I love your videos and although I’m not in dental hygiene (I’m in nursing school; my sister is in dental hygiene), I love your channel and all your DH vids! 💕 Keep going girl!🦷
I'm loving these videos. It's getting me hyped about my decision to pursue this career. I'm so glad you suggested continuing education. In the medical field it's definitely a must. I enjoy watching because of your personality too. I think you'll have a successful YT/Social Media career.
I’m a freshie in community college and i’m startin my prereqs. I’m excited yet also scared but i’m glad af that you spillin the tea and your experience of bein’ a DH. ✨
Obey K8 how many years is your program? I’ll be graduating high school this year, wanting to be a dh. and I thought DH was a 2 yr program but she said she did 5 years?? Lol im so confused
Melina Popal I think it depends on where your going and the requirements. For me, I go to SouthWestern Community College in San Diego,Ca. & the prerequisites for me will take me about two years. There’s this new law I think that passed in California not sure if it passed throughout the whole U.S, but the law is that community college will be free for two years for highschool students that just graduated highschool, and I’m taking advantage of that lmao. But after I do the prereqs from community college, If I choose to stay at the community college and join their d.h program it’d possibly be 2 or 3 more years after the first 2 years because you have to take more classes more based on D.h for the 2 years, then 1 year of like actually shadowing and probably hands on stuff. Not really sure. But that’s what I think.
These videos are by far amazing, entertaining, and educational. I can’t wait to finally apply. Doing the rest of my prerequisites and my shadowing then I’m sailing!
This video helped me so much with my journey in the dental world! Im only a dental Assistant, straight outta school, although im not in the dental hygiene setting (yet) this helped me start to be more confident with the things i know and learned throughout school even when i feel like i dont know crap! Lol thank you so much you are amazing! ❤️❤️❤️
I love your videos! I’m still in high school but I’ll be starting my dental internship in the fall! You’ve really inspired me to pursue the dentistry field 💕
I am currently in my last semester in DH school in Jamaica. I must say thank youu soo much. I was feeling discouraged but now i’m motivated. Thank youu 🤗🤗
I love your videos and your personality. I've applied to different programs all over my state and I'm hoping and praying for good news by the end of April. 💜💜💜
Currently in my first semester of dental hygiene school! I’m drinking through a fire hose right now😅 I love seeing a young, beautiful & successful hygienist right out of school thanks for the advice girl😘
I really loveee your videos, you’re such an inspiration to me especially since I’m working towards my degree for Dental Hygiene. I remember I wanted to quit because it was so stressful but your videos help me to keep going because it’s something that I really want to do so with that being said, I’ll be graduating next year in May and I’m only 19 🙏🏻 continue being an inspiration to others, you are truly blessed ♥️
I’m not a DH but I’m a DA & I can relate to lot of what you mentioned. Especially when it comes to patients. So thanks for this video! Hoping to go to dh school someday if I can push myself enough but I’m struggling a lot currently with being a DA. Best wishes to you & your growing career!
I’m a teacher (nothing close to dental hygiene and not sure why this was in my suggested videos lol) but I watched this whole video and I’m just inspired by your positivity! The part about not losing your passion really resonated with me. We’re in a part of the school year that can get really tough but I’m going to wake up tomorrow and remind myself why I do what I do. Seriously, thanks so much for spreading positive messages!
I honestly had to subscribe ASAP!❤️ I been struggling to decide what I want my career to be and honestly I feel like you were send to me from heaven since I love kids I want to be a Pedriatic dental hygienists ty!💕
Wow I'm a RDH for the last 10 years and u inspired me...totaly all u said is true especially the mind your own business...so much gossip...i work in 4 places and every time there is something going on
I can't wait to get into hygiene school. I just recently completed my last pre req microbiology. I'm currently in the USAF and can't wait to be done and pursue my dream!
I’m 17 and don’t have all my prerequisites yet, but I think I do want to become a dental hygienist. I am going to try to get my prerequisites but first finish my things for high school (btw I’m in community college)!
I love the fact your like dont lose your passion which is so common in all jobs and theres so much negativity already i have read alot about burnout and drama in offices people rarely talk about how much they actually love their job or the remembering the drive and want for the chosen career thank you for these videos
Ah so glad I found this. I'm 22 year old mixed girl looking to be a therapist, currently training as dental nurse and I felt so alone and out of place choosing this profession. Hearing what you say and seeing a young black woman makes me so glad. I feel good I decided to do nursing first. All I hear right now is negativity about the job but hearing this made want keep going. I too want to look back and see how far I've come.
I am a dental hygienist but I never got the chance to work because I got sick with back pain while I was studying. Thankfully I am getting better now and just started to work as a dental hygienist and I recognize a lot of the things that you mentioned. I try to feel confident, but I think I need time to practice. Very helpful to see your video I will take some of your advice. From Denmark
I watch a lot of your dental hygienist videos and you are so much help. I’m going into Dental Hygiene school when I get but from military in September. You should do another video with a male hygienist.
Daja Harvey ..yeah I know I watched it but like from more of a manly point ... no offense to him I liked that video but you know someone I can’t connect with like y’all do with her.
I am a dentist. I just gratuated in 2018 and I can really relate to everything you are saying. Thank you for your encouraging words, life can get tough and overwhelming sometimes. Good luck in your career and if you have more advice i would love to hear it!
Getting ready to start my first job tomorrow and my anxiety is so high. Bc of covid it's been months since I had my training and I really worry about remembering what to do and it's been 6 months since giving LA. I want to do my best for my patients, I want to help people, I don't want to look a an incompetent fool. Thank you for this video, you gave me such a sense of relief. I appreciate you ❤️
Love the video!!! So motivated I’m a dental assistant but I’m just starting prerequisites for dental hygienist program 😱😱 so let’s do it I’m excited !!!!
You really inspire me. I’ve been a dental assistant for two years and then I wanted to expand my learning and moved to an treatment coordinator. So I deal with payments, insurances, scheduling, etc. but now I’m starting dental hygienist school. I feel like being that I’ve been in the dental field my confidence is already there. But everything else even working in the dental field is true especially the drama!🙄
I've been a dental hygienist for 3 years now and I'm desperate for a career change. I agree SO much with all the bodily pain that comes with the profession! My first job out of hygiene school forced us to expose ourselves to radiation for EVERY patient that needed BWX. I've worked at a few offices by now and none offer benefits (health insurance, paid vacation, retirement, etc) and will cut off hours so you don't have any overtime. I thought I'd be well off financially after hygiene school, but unfortunately no!
Your channel is so wunderful 😍 I am from Germany and maybe want to do a course in dental hygienist! This video give me so many tips and courage.... thanks a lot 🙏🏾You are so beautiful 👸🏾
I’m currently a cosmetologist and I’ve been thinking for years about getting into the dental industry for something a little bit more stable and I stumbled upon your vlogs And they give me a lot of insight! I go back-and-forth with what I want to do but as soon as I watch one of your videos it really encourages me to go back to school For dentistry.
I'm getting my ged right now I have 4 more test to go. I dropped out of high school because of bullying. Now I'm a mother of 2 and I run a at home daycare. It's never to late to have a back up plan. Also if you could can you talk about the process of finding a job as a DA?
Youre a dental assistant? Just keep applying. Im going to be a new mom in about 2 months lol im 28 and Im gonna pursue higher education..either this ( dental hygeine) or lpn.. Just keep going. ( I also got my ged but due to unstable life issues-- ) It can be done. ✔
I went on indeed & seen that dental Hygienist are one of the best paying jobs at entry level. That is when I had my eureka moment & found what I wanted to do. I’m 22 & I just had a baby last year in December. I have a general studies college degree with a focus in allied health. I knew I wanted to do something in the medical field but couldn’t quite figure out what. I looked at some local associate RDH programs & seen that I had ALL the prerequisites completed already. I plan on starting DH program in 2020. Your videos has given me an immense amount of motivation to get it done. 2022 I WILL BE A RDH!
By the way, if any dental hygiene students are watching this, please do not be afraid of your patients with disabilities, don’t be afraid to ask what their lives are like, and keep an open mind. As I mentioned in the comment below, I have traveled alone to places like Uganda and India, and I run a nonprofit that does a lot of work in places like Vietnam, the Philippines etc. I also speak nine languages, the last one was Greek and I actually learned it because of my dentist. It is very hard to find a practitioner who can understand me and understand my needs, and I was so nervous to go, so I just started to learn Greek. Through the years, I have put a lot of videos on my channel on my travels, me doing things at home, using technology etc. I live on my own, and I use it just as much technology is the rest of you. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest I love all that stuff. But people have the misinformation that blind people still can only read braille. That is far from the truth. With today’s technology, there are apps that can actually read texts in the regular print books to you, there are apps that can identify colors, there are apps like be my eyes that connect you with the cited volunteer and it uses your video camera on your phone. So for example, if I am out and about and I want to find a certain coffee shop, I can just ask the volunteer to tell me which direction I need to go. There are also many apps that have GPS that are available to blind people now. Anyway, if you are working with patients who have special needs, don’t be afraid to ask questions about their lives, and remember they are people first. There are also a few webinars on RU-vid and channels like the disability and oral health Association have done some pretty interesting videos too.
I love ALL the advice you gave here! Especially the work environment situation. I DO NOT understand how people REALLY feel the need to spread negativity at work making things SO MUCH harder than they have to be, FOR EVERYONE THERE! Sheesh, do your job, be a respectful human being to those around you and life at work will not be bad for yourself or others around you. We spend more than half our life at work,... In many cases more than with family,.... Make it as positive as you can, do your part, BE A TEAM PLAYER, and work would be pretty nice.
Omg! I have't finished watching this video yet but thank you so much already lol! I can't wait to start my core classes!! :D You're so gorgeous! I love how you talked about avoiding the drama. That shit's beneath you honey! Keep it moving! :**
