Beautiful setup! DJ did a great job presenting, and was very close on his guess for added weight with our Beet Juice Tire Ballast. The 17.5-24 rear tires on the LS 357 require 62 gallons for a 75% recommended fill. At 10.7 pounds per gallon that adds over 1,300 pounds of out-of-sight ballast. If any viewers are interested in how much weight Rim Guard can add to their unit, our website has a Tire Fill Tool with over 2,200 tire sizes that should be able to help you.

Gallons ?, pounds per gallon ? I'm glad that we changed to standard Systeme Internationale metric units in 1973. I was in Intermediate/Junior High then, so can mostly get by in either system, but certainly it was far easier using Metric for Maths calculations in High School and Trade Technical college classes. One litre (or water) weighs one kilogramme, and put 1,000 of them together and you have a Metric Ton (or Tonne), which would occupy a space of a cube, one metre long along each side. I do still think of a car's fuel consumption in miles-per-gallon. I calculate all the litres I buy and kilometres I drive then convert it back at the end. If the car is only doing 20 mpg, then I need to check it for problems. If it's between 30 and 40 mpg, then things are going well. (That is of course, Miles Per Imperial Gallon. LOL, silly Yanks, they even get their gallons and quarts wrong, LOL smiley face !)
@RimGuardBallast
@RimGuardBallast 6 месяцев назад
@@KiwiCatherineJemma Interesting! There is definitely logic behind the metric system that seems to make good sense. It's all about what your exposed to! We purchase milk, fuel, and other things in gallons which makes it easy to visualize / compare. A gallon of milk weighs 8.6 pounds and RG is 20% heavier at 10.7 pounds per gal for reference.
@KiwiCatherineJemma
@KiwiCatherineJemma 6 месяцев назад
@@RimGuardBallast Yep, we used Imperial measures here, including 240 pennies making 20 shillings which make One NZ Pound currency (originally based off old British Pounds). But changed to decimal currency, dollars and cents, in 1967. As I said, weights and measures, including gallons, pints and quarts, inches, feet and yards, changed over about 1973 from memory. And the TV weather report changed from Fahrenheit to Celsius (with just a month of so of showing both units). People especially my generation and older, still often use old measures in words of explanation. ("I'm on Empty, I must bung a few gallons in the tank, before the weekend. I have to go and pick up some Four-by-Twos at the timber place on the way"). So yeah, now we are in the 97% of the World's population using the standardised S.I. Metric System. Only the US along with Burma and few places else are still in the 3% using the old British Imperial, or another old non-standard system of weights and measures. Some places still retain some old non standard units for historical reasons. The Japanese still use their old archaic measure for alcoholic drinks. I'm told.

Thanks to people like you, I went up to the next size tractor and got myself a TYM T574HC. We've got a 16 acre farm, and 54 chickens and a couple of pigs, and about 1/2 the land is in woods. We cut firewood for heating so we got loaded tires and a 3rd function valve as well. Picked up grapples, 48" forks, a 66" leveling box (we have a 1200' gravel driveway) and the bucket it came with. Our tractor is much like the one you just got. We've only got 12 hrs on it = got it last Thursday, and love. Hope you enjoy yours as much as we're enjoying ours.

Glad to see you have a safer tractor; weight makes a BIG difference!!! Some people think LG is a off shoot of New Holland. But the truth be known New Holland and Case International are paired up. LS tractors are a subsidiary of the LG Corporation. Also LS makes tractors for New HOLLAND under a 100hp?!?!? I know in LS start up they had considerable amount of electronic issues; I will be following your adventure with LS. What I have found through the years of being a CAT&CUMMINGS knuckle buster is that ground connections are critical to sensors!!! The best example that comes to mind is my single mom niece who bought a used riding mower (CHEAP) and was told it needed a battery!?! I checked it out and the battery appeared to be good; the problem was where the ground cable was bolted to the frame! Cleaned the connections and applied a little Never Seize and walla problem SOLVED!!! I have a ANTIQUE riding mower and the current battery is somewhere in the age of at least five years old and it's a Walmart battery which most say they are a one year battery??? Grounding is very important as is PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Adam you hit the nail on the head with this video and should be a must watch for people buying their first tractor without having any experience operating one. So many people go out and buy a compact or subcompact tractor thinking that it will able to do all the tasks on their property and once they start using it they suddenly realize that they bought a tractor that is to small and it lacks the horsepower to get the job done. Years ago a friend gave me some great advice when I was going to buy my first tractor and he said , “ big tractors can do small jobs, but small tractors cannot do big jobs.” Great video and take care.

I kind-a did the same thing .... almost. I did do-diligence and looked through many ... many brands. Also thought I'd need 50-60 HP. Checked out a few dealers. Kind-a settled on the Kioti brand. Went to the closest dealer 52 miles away. Just gave the dealer a list of things I thought I'd be using the tractor for. He indicated that the RX 7320 would do all I needed. Well .... that was not in my price range and I thought that much more power was unnecessary. BUT .... the dealer asked me what "Tim-the-Tool-man Taylor" would say .... MORE POWER!!!. I tried the RX73 model, then the NX55. Yes ... there was a difference. But, still, I was racking my brain on making a decision. Don't you hate it when going through all the turmoil on those "IMPORTANT" decisions! Ended up get the RX 73. Now 3 years later and 400 hrs of operation ....... I DID make the RIGHT choice!! And ... have NEVER looked back on thinking 'Maybe I should've". Just remember ..... "MORE POWER"!!!! Oh ... ho ... ho ....

CONGRATULATIONS! My first tractor was a Kubota L2501 HST. That model doesn't have a single "bell or whistle," but I learned about tractors w/it, and from that decided what I wanted / needed. I then bought a cabbed MT3-57, but mine is a power shuttle vice an HST. I wanted a "stick shift" rather than the HST, because you get a pinch more power and I just prefer a "stick" over an "automatic." The only thing I don't like about it is that the room in the cab is a bit tight. Truthfully, it's okay when I'm just driving / working, but when I need to move around in the cab, it's tight. I FINALLY figured out where I could put a toolbox, and I'm VERY HAPPY w/the location and ease of installation and use. I can send you some pics w/written descriptions if you like, but it does NOT require ANY modification to the tractor. If you look @ the FEL boom on the right side of the tractor, you'll see a single 5/8" hole @ the back of the boom (cab end of boom). I used a piece of 4" x 1/4" angle iron that was about 12" long for a "shelf." On one end I drilled a 5/8" hole through the vertical part, and put a short 5/8" bolt w/washer (as a spacer) through it and that hole on the back of the FEL boom. The angle iron is held in place by the bolt on 1 end and it rests on top of a grease fitting "shroud" on the other end. It can't come off that grease fitting "shroud," and it doesn't hamper the function of the loader or anything else. I also took a "standard" ammo can and drilled a 5/8" hole through it on 1 side near the bottom, on the end closest to the lid hinge. It rests on the angle iron "shelf," and is held in place by the same 5/8" bolt. I don't have to move the box to get to the grease fitting to grease it. When I open the box, the lid opens toward the rear of the tractor and just misses the running light (you could of course mount the box 180 degrees the other way, so that it opened toward the front). It's worked great for over 2 years, and again, if I took it off the tractor, you'd never know it had ever been there! I watch your channel, and I'm sure that tractor will serve you well; again, congratulations! : )

Hearing someone honestly admit to having tractors given to them is refreshing. Sometimes people forget that much of what they see is sponsorship advertising and the RU-vidrs don’t have to actually spend hard earned money on the product they are showing. Pushing products because they pay you makes someone a sellout. You sir are not one of them. Please never lose sight of that like some others have unfortunately done on RU-vid.

I have a 357 cab tractor shuttle shift, and I absolutely love it. My only issues I have with the tractor is that the safety switch on the seat is very sensitive. Sometimes when I push the clutch in I stall the tractor because of the weight shift from pushing the clutch in another thing that I would change is the style of the loader bucket. It is hard to see when you’re doing loader work how much you actually are digging in other than that it’s been a great tractor very reliable and I would suggest when you order one get it with the third function on the front also add more lights to the top of the cab of the tractor so you can point them in the directions that is needed to clearly see around the whole tractor. When you have the bucket on the front. The headlights are pretty much useless. I do not have my tires filled but it is a very well balanced tractor.

Adam Have watched you grow into your land, your machines and love for it all for quite some time. You will find the link peddle handy. When moving fork loads from here to there. Just moving the machine back and forth around the yard. Even when roading the tractor, just like a car or truck with a throttle peddle it has its application. I find when loading, digging, or lifting large loads with the front, mowing, it's better to Disengage the link and use a constant rpm. This allows you to push into a pile and lift at a higher rpm power( hydraulic rate) Also, not sure about how the tractor initiates it's Regen. Operating at lower rpms, idle, tends to place the unit into Regen a bit more. Not a problem, that's what it's there for but keep in mind when using the link a lot. Also there is a lifespan to a dpf before it needs cleaning or replacement. Quite a long life though. When you do use the link peddle try setting the throttle lever above idol. My sweet spot is around 1100 rpm. This allows for cleaner starts ( moving forward or backward) from a static position without some lag that would exist at a low rpm or just idol setting. It is a handy feature and I'm glad I have it on my unit. Kioti DK4710cab. Oh, good move with the cab! You won't regret at all. John Columbus NJ

Hey John, I have already fallen in love with the link pedal. And you are right for just driving around it’s great but for doing loader work using the tradition throttle lever is best. Took me all of about an hour to figure all that out haha

I started with a 70 hp tractor. I did have some experience on a neighbor's 35 hp tractor. It has been almost perfect for my projects but I am now at the point I no longer need this large a tractor. A smaller tractor is something that will suit me better going forward. I am sure there might be a time in the future when the bigger tractor would be better, but to be honest I really won't NEED a tractor but appreciate the usefulness of one. Hi Adam...great choice in a tractor!! I've owned my LS 35 HP tractor now for 5 years and I still love it. I bought it originally for my 60 acre property in North East Texas. But I ended up selling it. I now have it on my 2 acre home property which ot works well on. Going to be moving to Wisconsin here in a year so it will be put back to more use. It's a open station tractor and you were right wishing I would have gotten a cab tractor maybe in the future tho.

Gonna be interesting to follow this series Adam. When I was shopping for a tractor I tried out the LS and I did not feel Comfortable. being tall as You but bigger built it did not fit well. ( You can see me in Jon's Built to last Video) before My house fire I almost had the Ck3510 open station. But because I had to move some heavy stuff to My new place I went with the DK 4510 open station Shuttle shift. I did not want a cab in the Woods. and no Cab lowers the CG. Thanks Mike M.

Good luck with the new tractor. Maybe a year or so ago I posed a question to you. I asked if you were happy with the Kioti and what you would do differently. Your response was that you would go bigger. Good things come to those who wait. Happy to see you are in partnership with LS. May it last a long time.

I mean the 35hp did 90% of what I needed it to but that 10% of what it wouldn’t do was starting to grow

Hi. Nice tractor. I have owned a MT468C for just over a year now.(Also from SLI) Watch the grease zerks on that loader. Just about all of mine broke. I also couldn’t use a LockNLube because it was too big to fit into the recessed holes on the loader. Upgrade those cab lights to LED. It was the first thing I did. The cab limits what you can do in the woods. I found that out pretty quickly. If you ever want to check out the 4 series I’m in Conneaut Lake.

Linked pedal is pretty handy doing loader work. At least with the JD version, you can adjust the throttle to the min. throttle you want for the job and then the hydro pedal will speed it up when you need it. Use this most for loader work.

I usually just open my back window when hooking up to three point attachments and reach in and adjust the height like that. Not a huge inconvenience. Most of the time I can back right up to the implements and hook up to the quick hitch and just reach out the back window and lock the quick hitch. Most non pto implements I can hook up without getting out of the seat.

I think that is a size bigger than a JD series 3 i bought 2 years ago- maybe in between your two. You’re right about going a bit bigger- i did and basically got about the biggest i could afford. I am really happy with mine, the only negative so far is the location of the fuel tank.

Also, congrats on having the ability to get to use a tractor in this way. Consider it a blessing. Also, good on LS for allowing you to be honest. I love my LS. I have the MT225 for our 25 acres and so far it's done everything I've thrown at it and more. The reason I went with LS was because of Sandy Lake Implement. They were phenomenal to deal with and are known in our area for their service. Not to mention their a small locally owned and operated dealership. Looking forward on hearing your thoughts on it!

Nice! CAB = great upgrade around here. One thing that annoys me about tractor specs is the inconsistency around loader lift capacities. Some rate at pivot pins. Others at a distance forward of pivot pins (800mm for example) replicating being 31" forward of the pins (where you'd have real loads on pallets between pins and that distance). I think getting loaded tires was very wise. I look forward to your assessments of LS.

Adam I used to own an LS XR4046 with cab and loved that thing. Bush hogging was a dream. One thing I did to mine was replace the work lights on the corners of the cab with LED's and it made a huge difference. One thing to watch for: mine would jump into neutral and start freewheeling when going slow downhill. I assume it was probably a linkage that needed adjustment. I'd still have mine if I hadn't needed something smaller and more nimble for working inside a barn. Next time Doug or Kyle ask "who", just tell them the company that builds New Holland Boomers.
@HometownAcres
@HometownAcres 7 месяцев назад
My Kioti has done that a few times recently. It seems to slip out of gear and into neutral. Not very often but occasionally.

Great lesson about buying your first tractor. I was in the same boat as you and looked at John Deere 2, 3 and 4 series tractors. After much research and debate I went with the 4066R and I've never looked back. However, my first level of criteria was definitely a cab. At my "advanced age" there's no way I'm breathing all that crap or getting stung by the various insects that we have here in Tennessee. One question, how is the headroom for a guy that's 6' 5" five lol. (There you go Kyle)

The primary reason we add ballast (water) to our rear skip loader tires is for additional traction.
