I did the same thing. Had a brand new 2015 PP GT and then went to a C6 Vette...then to my 2008 GT500. The GT500 is just raw craziness compared to the other 2. I like this car SO MUCH better. :)
Congrats! I just picked up my dream car of 15 years. 2007 Black convertible with stupid ass extremely low miles! Thinking about upgrades of cold air, tune and borla axleback s type.
Mine is a bit notchy from 1st to 2nd. Just changed the tranny fluid out to RP synchromax and it feels better. Just a heads up in case you run into that situation. Mine is a 2010. Congrats.
05-13 mustangs just look so Much better in general than the new ones.. didn’t like how they looked from the get go when they came out but 05-09 just have a place in my heart especially the Shelby’s they just look so badass
I agree. I liked the 05 when it dropped I wasn't crazy about the square looking front end and fogs in the grill...when the Shelby dropped I fell in love. I thought to myself THAT is how they should look! It's subtle changes that make a big difference in look i love the Shelby. Fast forward to 2020 I was finally able to get my hands on an 07 and I'm never letting it go. It's performance white stripe delete lowered on 17x7/15x10 gunmetal f14 drag pack it looks sick. Tasteful mods nothing tacky. I'm bolt on, tune 4.10 gears for now making 550 rwhp but I have a brand new vmp gen3r thats going on this summer I'm currently gathering the rest of the supporting mods I need like injectors etc. I'm hoping to gain 200+ whp with the same setup and some pulley size only difference is swapping the blower upgrading injectors and boost a pumps and going to a larger tbody the vmp 137 vs the twin 65 cj I have currently. Should be able to do that easily but with the 2.6 pulley on that blower I'll need to run boostane with 93 to he safe it's gonna make like 20 psi vs 13 on the stock blower lol. The gen3r is a monster. I LOVE these cars. And omg the 5.4 sounds sexy.
Ford gt was aluminum block and it had a dry sump oiling system instead of wet sump and the blower was different also but the heads on them are identical. These can make tons of power with a better blower on them. You can even make 600+ to the wheels on stock blower on a fbo setup. Some people think because stock hp is lower potential must be lower that is the opposite of the truth. These are just more restricted in stock form so there are much larger gains when modding. Also these don't have wide bands but that can easily be added in the aftermarket for few hundred bucks.
This is one of the cooler paint/stripe color combos imo. My 07 performance white came with blue stripes previous owner removed them so its solid white its real clean and sexy but kind of flies under the radar at a glance because it don't have stripes. Pretty cool because unsuspecting victims of other cars will fly up on me trying thinking at first I'm just a run of the mill 3v lol. These cars aren't about their fancy amenities its all about having a rare badass raw muscle car that is very unique. It will get 100000 times more looks out in the wild than an s550 those things are awesome but on every street corner. You made a wise decision imo. These things are plenty capable. Btw I have a catless h and borla stingers my exhaust is on the loud side and I still hear the blower plenty I'm running a 2.6 upper with stock lower, twin 65 tbody and a jlt 123 intake. It's perfect because you can hear blower whine an exhaust equally ecspecially if the windows are down haha. There is no shortage of blower whine ecspecially with the stock small blower. I bought a vmp gen3r for mine got it new from vmp on black Friday for 3499 which is an absolute steal. Gonna turn a beast into an absolute untamed animal. The early gt500s are heavily underrated they have great potential as good as any of the later gt500s they were just more restricted stock but have alot more room to grow in the aftermarket.
Awesome comment I appreciate it as I’m new to the gt500 but yes I agree - I prefer it over the s550. Its more raw and yes dangerous since no irs but it seems to be way ahead of its time.

If you mod it upgrade the lower because the 07 had a super heavy lower damper you can go with a 10% and it'll add 2-3 psi if you do a 2.6 upper also you'll see 15 psi on the stock blower. I did not go with a 10% because I'm just running stock size lower but I got one from a 2013 stock damper any of them 08 up have the revised lighter damper it's about 10 lbs while the 07 is like 22 lbs or something crazy it's stupid heavy and when you're modified especially blower swapped it's way more stress on the crank snout. So I would recommend changing that. If you're gonna stay on stock blower or a 2.3 tvs you'll want a 10% lower. I'm running a 2.65 gen3r on mine so a 2.6 upper only has me at 20 psi already with a stock sized lower lol. Do a 1 piece ds just like with any 05 up mustang and I would do gears 373 minimum 410 if you want more aggressive that Trans is geared long. My 410 were killer on stock blower but now that I'm making 750+ rwhp they're a little much I may drop back to a 373, go with even wider drag radials and work on suspension to try to get it hooking little better. It's a monster. 410 works good on stock blower long as you have a drag radial on. These cars can get significantly faster with simple mods. You can go 10s pretty easy on stock blower fbo and gears. Not bad for a heavy manual trans car from 2007.
Later I learned the suspension work was stock aside from the lowering springs. Wow SVT did a good job on the suspension including sway bars and other extra bars etc and some adjustable shocks that are an amazing brand from that day
Awesome car man, congrats! I just picked up an 08 Shelby GT500 with 13,500 miles in Vista Blue, and I couldn’t be happier! Of all the modern mustangs, the 07-09 is easily my favorite body style. Where in CA are you from? I’m originally from Placentia in North Orange County, but I’ve been in CO for the past four years for work. I’ll be relocating to AZ or possibly the Vegas area in July. If I decide to move to Vegas, I’ll be able to take the GT500 to Shelby anytime I want 😂
Look nice! Sounds like you miss the 2015, but understand the expense of having two Stangs! I remember looking at Shelbies in late ‘90’s when they were selling for high $20000! Ha ha! Would have been good investment.
They didn't have shelbys at Ford at that time you're referring to the svt cobra which is the older version of the same thing. Those were not called shebys and the shelbys are not called cobras. They are both made by svt though and have snake badges on them. Very similar cars. I used to own a 97 cobra from 2004 to 2008 it was unfortunately totaled but I bought it from the original owner who bought it new in 97 for 27k. So yea they were going for much less but inflation is also risen alot so 27k then would be like 40-45 now which is a bargain considering that was the top of the line mustang.
