STRAP knowledge for you to save some future dents on your truck. Rule of thumb take your vehicle weight and X by 3. So your f150 is around 5400-5600 pounds so = 16,800. Now double that to simulate a vehicle of similar size you can pull. = 33,600 pounds. So a strap around 30,000lbs - 40,000lbs will suit you well and be able to take the weight. A 10,000lbs strap is maybe suitable for a ATV or small SXS. That said I would recommend a 32k (kinetic recovery rope) and not a STRAP. They stretch and will be much more suited to yanking on and stretching to reduce stress on your truck. Seen a comment about chain. If you do a chain (which I wouldn't recommend) it is like a strap or recovery rope meaning it has to be rated for the weight the same. Down side to chain is when a chain breaks it almost always snaps up usually around window height. Lol not good. Also chain is a sudden stop just like a strap. I am an avid Jeeper and I work in the logging industry. That should cover my bases on prerequisites on what I'm talking about. Nice video just want to help you out a bit with why it broke on you. It was never made to take that kind of weight. Cheers.

After 11k, I traded my 2018 5.0 for a 2016 5.0. The engine sounded like a diesel and the trans in 7th gear at 1100 rpm doing 25mph lugged the engine. Great on the hwy, confused trans in town.

The Dents from the strap would have happened on any other truck. on the tundra, you probably would have bent the frame.

Just bought a used 2018 F-150 King Ranch with the 5.0L. The truck had 36K and was immaculate inside and out. Used to own a 2000 F250 regular cab with the 7.3L Power Stroke but the cost of diesel fuel, the fact that I am no longer hauling trailers and have a family now made it necessary to go with this Super Cab V8. I haven't any issues with the drive of this F-150 (still go by the tach when driving) or the comfort and convenience that has come a very long way since 2000.

Awesome! Congrats on the purchase, David! Growing up my father has had quite a few Ford pickups, all of which were very dependable vehicles. Ones I remember clearly are his 1999 4.6L Supercab 4x4 and his 2006 5.4L Supercab 4x4. Having a Ford pickup of my own often reminds me of the childhood memories with my dad's past Ford trucks. The comfort, convenience, power and efficiency has drastically improved over the years!

Great truck. I just bought the 2018 version with 16,200 miles. XLT 5.0 v8 and 6.5 tf bed. I added the Truxedo Sentry CT bed cover and the molded floor liners. I’m looking to get the metal oil plug too. Just got back from a 1500 mile Colorado trip. Truck ran flawlessly with fully loaded bed and back seat and pulling a dual bike/kayak trailer. I had to add about a half quart of oil on return. I’ve heard that these engines can burn some oil so I will be monitoring closely. Overall love mine so far. Not a daily driver just for weekends and vacations

Ive got almost the exact same truck (5.0, bench seat up front, 4 door with extended bed, soft bed cover with drop in bed liner) and I love it! Only difference is mine is white. Ive never been a huge fan of the color but I wasnt willing to compromise on anything else. I specifically wanted the bench seat with extended bed and I'm glad I did

The 10 speed automatic trans in F150s is made for better towing. The ratio between gears is lower. The trans will skip gears if it thinks you will get optimum power from jumping up. So it's not a flaw, its a feature. When towing this will help with gas mileage and keep your RPMS down. Tow something heavy and see if it skips 2nd or 4th gear. It should utilize those unless you are flooring it.

Had Chevys since 92 until I bought a 2020 f150 xlt 5.0. Love this truck. Drove it from Tennessee to Oklahoma and back. Very comfortable and that 5.0 was terrific on the interstate. Averaged about 19 mpg but that's ok by me. Totally happy. Yeah it's time for first oil change and I get to deal with the plastic plug which I wasn't aware of before I bought but not a deal breaker.

Welcome to the "buy a liter of oil every other week" club!!!!! 🥳🥳 I have a 19 f150 5.0 from what I understand they didn't sleve the cylinders and it is causing cylinder slap when cold and results in oil consumption problems. It is a defect in the making of the engine and cannot be fixed with a update or 1/2" longer dipstick. Yes they really did that. They are running circles around the problem until someone files a class action lawsuit with enough evidence to make them not able to squirm out of it like they have done in twice before. Using nuances in the warranty guarantee to legally get out of being sued. I'm thinking about trading it in for a Tundra? Not sure though.

When you crawled under the truck I noticed the oil pan shield missing! With a plastic oil pan I'd get that back on before road debris does damage! Nice truck! I have the 2020 STX package with the 2.7 and avg about 25.8 mpg on the highway in eco mode. I mind the posted speed limits.

A steel dents the same way. The rake of the truck is there some when there is weight in the bed the weight will be better balanced between front and rear. An example of this is when you see people put leveling kits on their trucks then put a couple hundred pounds in the bed and it looks like it has 1,500 lbs in it. Third, some over the road trucks have plastic oil pans and plugs on them. Some some your complaints are really not much to worry about.
@Eliyourcarguy
@Eliyourcarguy 4 года назад
In spite of the couple people who have commented about the dent issue, I believe in my scenario that I experienced a steel body would not have dented like this did. As for the front end slant that really wasn't a complaint because any truck will have that and it only makes sense. Mentioning it was merely my way of letting viewers know a potential future modification. The oil plug is being replaced as mentioned with the metal replacement that will not break like the cheap plastic plug did. None of the competition in this class have a plastic oil plug that I am aware of and hopefully other manufacturers have the sense to keep their plugs metal.

Skipping gears definitely isn't a flaw. It is always looking for the best gear for the need at the time. It's the same as how a semi with an 18 speed transmission won't use all 18 gears every time, especially when unloaded.
@Eliyourcarguy
@Eliyourcarguy 4 года назад
Now that you've mentioned it I can understand that. It always shifts fine and it's predictable so as long as it continues operating like it is now I'm sure I'll have the truck for many miles.

@@RedWingsninetyone I just posted this comment a couple of times. Here is my reply to the oil consumption issue: After my first oil change and approximately 2900 miles, I noticed it was almost a quart low. Before changing it the second time at around 5900 miles I noticed it was only about 1/4 quart low. Now I am due for my 3rd change and I just checked it at 8200 miles and it is a very very little bit below the full line. Not quite a 1/4 of a quart low. To speak of, it hasn't bothered me or proven to be a major issue as of yet.

On 3rd gear the torque converter doesn't fully lock up until half a second so it also sounds like it shifts an extra gear on 3rd too. You can hear it with a loud exhaust. It becomes annoying after a while.

Beautiful truck. Sometimes, I wish that I had got the 6.5 foot bed instead of the 5.5 foot bed. One thing I will say tho, is that a lot of the electronics run through that plastic flap right inside the door where you get in. You have your floor mats tucked underneath, the water will be dispersed under that flap, and get into your electronics eventually. I put my floor mats on top of the door sills, in hope that the water will be dispersed outside. Good review.

I'm with you regarding those plastic oil pans and drain plugs. I have a Mustang V-6 and wanted to trade up to a Mustang GT. However, I won't until Ford gets rid of that plastic. I understand that Ford put plastic ones on the Raptor but have since gone back to metal due to problems. By the way, I've had pick ups for over 30 years and still do. I bought the Mustang because I got tired and taking a big truck everywhere and having to park it and worry about people dinging its doors. For a truck accessory, wire a couple of LED flood lamps into the back up lights and mount them on your trailer hitch. I put a couple of Rigids on mine. It gives you a lot more visibility when backing up a big truck at night. In my opinion, it should be a mandatory safety feature on all trucks. Regarding your future exhaust upgrade, personally I wouldn't go louder than a Borla Stinger. I put that on my Silverado and my mother in law says that "you need a muffler."

Just sold a 2015 Hemi Ram with the Flowmaster American Thunder Cat Back which sounded awesome and I really liked but the MPG was terrible. That plastic oil plug is concerning. Why save a few bucks on that part of all parts?????? I think all cars have their bad engineering IMO its just finding the one that wont leave you stranded. My Ram left me stranded after 34 months and only 25K miles of ownership. Very disappointing. Ignition problem. Long term reliability of Ram is what concerns me most.

The lower front end is more for level towing after a trailer is hooked up, rather than aerodynamics. If u drive alot a night, id recommend at least upgrading the headlight bulbs to brighter leds. I installed the expensive moritmotos, but they are excellent. Your cracked tailgate handle is most likely plastic fake chrome, not aluminum........and gm and ram also use aluminum in their tailgates now. I replaced my oem with a flow control ronin plug........although the oem isnt really as bad as some say, i still wanted to upgrade mine. Great lookin truck overall.......def hit the dealer up for those warranty items for the cupholder and the rear window.
@rrdavis1s
@rrdavis1s Год назад
I own a body shop and for the dent in your tailgate that would have been the same outcome for a steel tailgate as well. I would even say if could have dented more on the steel. I’ve took a body hammer with a point and smacked the doors on these trucks and it left nothing. If it was a dodge it would have probably left a hole in the steel. You broke a strap that’s rated for 10k lbs that means you had over that much energy coming back at your tailgate it’s going to dent aluminum or steel. It would have left a larger dent in steel. I’ve rebuilt over 200 of the 2015-2020 f150’s and the aluminum on them are hard to dent and hard to repair larger dents because of the rigidity. Also the 19 up Chevy trucks have aluminum tailgates as well. A pdr guy could likely remove that as well for $200-$300. As far as the tailgate handle they are all plastic on most of your trucks and Chevy has some of the cheapest plastic. Also take all that chrome off it looks like a 80 year old man owns that truck lol. I like the color though that blue Jean blue it’s one of my favorite colors on these trucks.

I have had several fords including a Mustang GT over the last 20 plus years and they all gave me excellent service however I am not a fan of the turbocharged engines they offer ! I’ll be looking for the base 3.3 V6 to save money over the 5.0 V8 NO ECO BOOST FOR ME! and a 2 wheel drive XLT crew cab with the chrome package especially for the chrome bumpers and white paint ! I DROVE THE 3.3 and at 295 hp has plenty of power and torque for what i need it for and will tow 7900 lbs is more then enough to pull a small travel trailer for two people and at times pulling a motorcycle on a 6x9 trailer! I have owned two rangers in the past but decide for an extra 5k I’ll go for the f150 this time which I believe is a much better truck.

The base engine doesn't really get better gas mileage in the real world. Maybe if you baby it it may get 1to 2 mpg better but it's not worth it. I'd go with the bigger engine. However, the 3.5 Ecoboost and 5.0l both have notorious issues. Also the 10 speed has had problems too so I'd research the problems first before you spend good money on it.

So I have been back and forth between a 2019 f150 v8 and a 2019 ram hemi. The only thing that's pushing me away from the ford is the oil consumption. I've seen they had a TSB for 2018-2020 oil consumption. Are you experiencing this issue?

I've never heard about the clunk after startup, but the oil consumption is pretty common starting with 2018, but in the 5.0L only. I've heard mixed results on the fix for that. But in my research I've found the 2.7L to be the most reliable one. The warped dash definitely bothers me, but the stitched leather dash (Lariat and above) don't have that issue. But it still shouldn't happen.

I responded this comment to another friend: "After my first oil change and approximately 2900 miles, I noticed it was almost a quart low. Before changing it the second time at around 5900 miles I noticed it was only about 1/4 quart low. Now I am due for my 3rd change and I just checked it at 8200 miles and it is a very very little bit below the full line. Not quite a 1/4 of a quart low. To speak of, it hasn't bothered me or proven to be a major issue as of yet." As of today, Consumer Reports shows 5 recalls for 2019 F150. They also show 17 recalls for 2019 RAM 1500. The F150 has a much better record of reliability over the years, and long term seem to be a much better choice in my opinion. Even though the new RAM design is very attractive and the tech is great compared to F150, I wouldn't let those 2 reasons alone persuade me to buy a new RAM.

@@Eliyourcarguy Good to know! All modern engines are made to burn SOME oil, but not the amounts others have mentioned (1-2 qts in 1000 miles). Definitely agree about the Ford vs RAM. Everyone is Gaga over the interior, which is nice, but means nothing when you're broken down. FCA isn't exactly known for reliability. I've been researching the truck market since these new aluminum F150's hit the market and I've been converted from a Chevy/GM guy. Ford may not impress with initial quality compared to RAM or GM, but their stuff certainly lasts longer.

The fix for excessive oil consumption on my 2019 5.0 was update engine management strategy software and a longer dipstick with a greater range between Add and Full holes. All done for free per the Service Bulletin. I'm happy with the way it runs and drives (the change only had to do with deceleration, not acceleration) and this seems to have solved the issue.

I love the 5.0 (I'm old school so I didnt want the EcoBoost) and I really like that about the 10-speed on my 2019 F-150 XLT Super Crew. It picks the best gears for the type of acceleration you are doing, and doesn't waste time in those you dont need to use. That's a great efficiency function that was designed into this transmission and it is doing exactly what it is supposed to do.
@Jsuarez6
@Jsuarez6 4 года назад
@@jacobmead2262 Larger tires would put more strain in the transmission, but I can't say how much more with your tires. Your tire would be about 2 inches taller than my truck's stock tires. But this 1-3-5 transmission jump happens with stock tires so your larger tires aren't necessarily causing it.
@Jsuarez6
@Jsuarez6 4 года назад
@@stevelauterbach484 From what I understand about transmissions, using more gears through acceleration would be more efficient use of power. So it would be more efficient to use all the gears from 1-2-3-4-5. But of course that's just theoretical, and it also depends a lot on the design of the transmission. There is probably a very good reason the transmission skips 2 and 4. In the end, the only reason I'm even aware of the shifting is because it's shown on the dash. If it weren't for that I honestly wouldn't even realize the transmission was skipping a gear. LOL You are right that this transmission does pick the best gear for the type of acceleration you are doing. I have noticed with going uphill it will shift from 10 to 9 or 8 so the engine is less stressed. I do hope this transmission lasts as long as my previous one. My old 2006 F150 lasted over 300,000 miles and no transmission problems (although it was starting to feel off near the end).
@stevelauterbach484
@stevelauterbach484 4 года назад
@@Jsuarez6 Sounds like you treated you old truck well and it returned the favor to you. I look at the gear skipping in the 10 speed as being similar to going up a stairway. It's easier to climb a stairway using each step, but if you want to get to the top of a stairway in a hurry, running up 2 or 3 stairs at a time (though it takes more effort) will get you there fastest. So what you said about efficiency is correct concerning energy efficiency and mpg. I meant it in the sense of time spent getting up to speed. Anyway, that's my two cents, and I completely agree with ever else you said.

Rememeber if you ever plan to change your tire size from stock, take it to the dealership so they can reset the ECM/PCM and recalibrate the shift tables of the transmission to compensate for the larger tires. I made the mistake of switching to more aggressive larger 33inch tires and the 10 speed transmission started shifting very weird. The dealership said that because the tires are larger, the shift tables are all messed up and the transmission is confused. 🤷 Now its back to driving like stock and I love it even more. Also 60 and also found my oil level very low with less than 2 or 3K miles on the clock. Took mine back to the dealer, told them, and they did an oil consumption test per a Ford Service Bulletin on this very problem. They changed the oil, scratched the dipstick to mark where "Full" really is on it, and told me to let them know right away if it gets too low again. By the time the oil level reached the lower hole on the dipstick I brought it back to them. They said the reason these engines consume a lot of oil has to do with high vacuum pressure sucking oil past the rings. The dealer updated my computer's software with a revised deceleration strategy, installed a new dipstick with a longer "Normal" level range per Ford's Service Bulletin, and sent me on my way. It's been 2-3 months since then, and I have to say this SEEMS to have taken care of the problem as far as I can tell so far. Also, at idle (8n Park or Neutral) mine sounds like a diesel engine, and shakes slightly as it warms up. The dealer checked that for me as well and determined what I heard and felt is "normal". One of the guys at the Service counter first said it had to do with cam phasers but then changed his story to it being the timing chain adjuster design causing it to be noisy but claimed that has no bearing on its durability. The other guy at the Service counter told me the loud clattering diesel-sounding noise is just the direct injectors doing their thing. I dont know if that's the truth but I've seen other owners on forums who were told basically the same thing, so maybe it's so. Only time will tell, but otherwise the truck runs fine and I'm very happy with it. Hope this helps someone out!

Scotty Kilmer says the 5.0L oil consumption problem is a Ford class defect that Ford won't admit to. All of Ford's work arounds don't address or fix the real problem..... which is that Ford used an aluminum block on these 5.0 engines, and didn't sleeve the cylinders. They used a ceramic coating in these cylinders (to save a few pennies), and this coating is either failing or it isn't working as it's supposed to, thus causing the massive oil consumption problem.
